Why the Sky is Far Away

Think about the message in the Nigerian folktale, Why the Sky is Far Away. What does this folktale remind you to do in your own life?

  2. What this folk tail reminded me to do was to only take whit I need and other people in the world don't have food so don't waist yours. I think this because in the text it states the people took too much of the sky and they didn't
eat half of it. Also every year our school has a food drive for people
who don't have food . Finally when you eat and you throw out your food
it is kinda rude because it shows you are not grateful that you are not one of those people that have no food

  3. This Nigerian folktale reminds me not to be greedy in life. This is because if you take too much they will not give it back I learned that from the folk tale. For example people were taking too much from the sky and the sky went really far up so no one could take anything from him. In my life one time, I asked a kid for a lot of blocks and he gave me a lot. But the next time I asked him for a lot of blocks he said no because I had a lot last time.

    1. Kieran, you could have also added stuff about the woman (forgot her name) being wasteful and same with the villagers throwing the pieces of sky they did not eat in to garbage heaps.

  4. This folktale reminds me that in my own life you can't be greedy and wasteful. Also you can't always be lazy and make other people do the work for you. You shouldn't throw out things like food because people will need it. You have to at least help your family.

  5. it reminds me of not being greedy or wasting food and not to make other people do your work you should do your own work and you should not throw out food because some people need food but don't have so instead of wasting food you should give it to people that don't have and need it

  7. The sky is far away because the villagers would take pieces of the sky to eat and they took far more than they needed. They would throw it away and throw scraps in the garbage pile. The sky did not like this and one day he turned really, really dark and all the villagers were really frightened. They sky told the villagers if they took one more piece of the sky too big for them, more than they needed and threw it away then he would fly higher and higher out of their reach. They would have to hunt and make their own food. The next day the villagers broke their promise and the sky flew away and the villagers had to hunt and make their own food. I think the moral of this story is that you should never take more than what you need and be grateful for what you have. Sebastian Seitz

  8. it reminds me that now people are dying of hunger and have to hunt for food. It also reminds me that we shouldn't be greedy and not giving poor states food we should start giving states way more food so that more and of them keep on dying.

  9. the sky is far away cause the sky warned the villagers to not take one piece of food or be greedy but they ate to much and that was bad because the sky warned them that not to grab one more piece the sky will sail up ubove the earth far out of the reach of the tallest person ever since the sky sailed up no could have not grabed one single piece of food. Because every one had a festival the villagers eat all the food they kepted asking for food which was really greedy as the party went on they were still pulling out food from the sky.The sky was really disappointed villagers since now on no one could get food they have to hunt

  10. The Nigerian folk tale why the sky is far away reminds me not to be greedy and wasteful. I feel this way because in the text it said,"But as time went on,the people forgot to appreciate the sky. They took their food for granted, and they became wasteful. They cut far more sky then they needed and threw what they didn't use on to the garbage heap." And this is how I know not to take more than I need and to not waste what I have.

  11. The sky is far away because .When the people started to cut more pieces of the sky and ate a little bit the sky got mad and turned black and all the people got scared so the people went to the king. The people took more pieces of the sky and ate it all.

  13. The moral of the story is, never be greedy and waste too much of something you're very grateful for having. I know this because King Oba and his kingdom weren't greedy at first. They wouldn't waste the food that the sky gave them. But then, they started cutting off more sky than they could eat. All the sky they couldn't eat went into the garbage heap. Then the sky gave them a warning that if they took off too much, they would cut off all the sky. Then they didn't waste all the sky. They had a festival every year to celebrate the sky. The servants would cut off some sky, enough to eat, but not too much. But again, the sky tasted so good that the people started grabbing more sky and throwing the extra in the garbage. Then the sky said, I've already given you a warning. The sky went up so high that no one could grab anymore.

  14. What this folktale reminds me to do in my own life is to be happy with what I have. Also if you are greedy and waste what you have, you will not have anything for the future, and others will not have it either. If you take what someone gives you for granted, then they will not want to give you anything anymore, because they will be mad that you are taking advantage of them. It's important to have an attitude of gratitude!

  15. I think the moral of this folktale is take what your worth take what you need. I think this because maybe the people on the streets that are hungry didn't understand that food is worth something it's money or that people work for food. Food isn't just what us and animals eat it helps the world for example worm poop is soil. I hope you get that food means something.

  18. This story tells people to be grateful for what they get. I know this because the people of the town kept eating when they were full. The sky knew this and moved upward so the town people could not reach it. So now, I eat all my food!!!!!

  19. This folktale reminds me to be grateful and appreciate the things I receive such as: learning, clothing, housing and food. If you take something from someone and you don't need it then that's just greedy and someone could have used it. People may not would to give you things anymore because your wasteful.

  20. The sky is far away because people were taking more then what they needed from it to eat. Also people took pieces even when they weren't hungry. This relates to real life because it teaches you not to be greedy.

  22. The folktale Why The Sky Is Far Away reminds me to accept that what you have is what you have. It reminds me of this because the village was greedy. And because of this there was a punishment. Another reason is that no matter how much you hate it, you`ll never get everything you want. An example of this is you might always want more. plus, people have problems all the time. My third reason is that the village has the sky. But that to them was not enough for them, they wanted more. They wanted to be able to treat the sky however they wanted.

  23. I do not waste food because the sky would be angry,we have to take care of the food AND NOT PUT IT ON THE GARBAGE,SO THE SKY WILL BE HAPPY.

The people will learn there leson

  24. This folktale reminds me to take as much food as I need, not as much as I want. I know this because there are people in this world who search hours to find food but only get too little food. They either can't afford it or they can't find it. It also reminds me to not be greedy or wasteful.

P.S.: This folktale really helped me remember to be careful of how much you take and to leave some for others.

  25. This folktale makes me think about not wasting food/water or anything else you could waste in the world. this is because things you waste other people could use and wasting things can hurt the earth.

  26. This folktale reminds me to only take what i need and not what i want because if i was the sky i would not want people wasting me. You have to show respect to the resources of the earth.
