Bud, Not Buddy

Prediction: What do you think Herman E. Calloway will say to Bud in Chapter 13? Will he say he wants to live with Bud or will he send him back to his foster home? Use what you know about the plot (text details) to support your answer.  Include possible dialogue between the two characters.

  2. I think that Herman E. Calloway will send Bud back to the foster home because Herman asked Bud a lot of questions and because Herman didn't recognize his own son and that Herman might say "Where you supposed to come from kid?" Bud might say "Don't you remember me, dad?" Since Herman is a musician one of his fellow musicians might say " Listen kid, Herman doesn't have the time to be a daddy."

  3. I do not think Herman E. Calloway will want to live with Bud and I think he'll say he doesn't want Bud. I think this because he barely knows Bud, even if he's his father. I also think this because Herman wouldn't want Bud to live with him if he left him and Momma in the first place. Plus, Momma got mad at the flyer of Herman E. Calloway, so it must have something to do with him leaving them. And Herman wouldn't want Bud because it may make him feel uncomfortable: to me it would.

  4. i dont not think he would ask him to live with him because his dad dose not really know him like that and bud dosent even know that is his father and i think that is his grandfather.Bud mom got mad at the grandfather for making her were this hat and because his father left him at the foster home.

  5. I think that Herman E. Calloway will send bud back. I know this because when bud said that Herman was his father, Herman or the group didn't answer at all. Another reason why I think that is when bud that to Herman they blamed it on the "drummer guy". My last and final reason is Herman doesn't really know bud and left bud with his mother but when the mother died bud had to go to in a foster home or family. I also think that Herman might not be buds father but he can be part of the family to.

I think Herman E. Calloway will keep Bud and Bud will stay with Herman and Herman won't take Bud back to the orphanage I am predicting this because I don't think the book will have a sad ending and Bud seams like his father so Herman might like that.

  7. I think that Herman E. Calloway will not take Bud to live with him. I think that because why would Herman leave bud and his mother in the first place, if he loved bud and wanted him, he would not have done that. I also think this because when because Herman did not recognize Bud, and I'm sure that your own father should know who you are. My third example is that bud said that Herman E. Calloway, his father, has the same voice as him, and Bud said that means he's defiantly his father!

  8. I think that Herman E. Calloway will not take Bud to live with him because he left Buds mom and never came back so he probaly doesn't anything to do with Bud or his mom. Another example is when Bud pointed at Herman and said that he knew Herman was his father everyone looked at Herman in a weird way and he himself looked suprised. My final example is when Herman was talking to Bud it was like he was talking to any other kid.

  9. I think Hurman E. Calloway will say Bud is NOT HIS SON because when Hurman saw Bud he didn't seem to like him. Hurma's facial expression was as if he knew Bud was his son but deep down he just didn't like Bud. I also think Hurman might want to live with Bud so he could get to know Bud better, and he mightr just grow to like Bud. Hurman might consider living with Bud because maybe if Hurman likes Bud's personality then they might have a good bond with each other.

  10. I think Herman E. Calloway will take Bud in because Bud traveled all the way there from Flint, Michigan just to see him. And after all he's been through Herman will probably take Bud in. And Herman will probably find out that Bud has no where to go accept the orphanage which Bud doesn't want to go back to and help him some how. And it seems like Herman is Bud's father (or maybe grandfather) and since they are family (probably) family always help each other.

I think that Herman E. Calloway will take bud to live with him. For example even if you haven’t seen your son in 7 years I don’t know any father who would reject there son if they haven’t seen them in 7 years. That seems kind of cruel to send your son back to an orphanage. Another example that HEC would not let bud down is that he understood bud and his mother and how his mother died and he was stuck at a orphanage and I would have felt bad for bud and taken him from the orphanage. My final example is that bud is HEC’s SON and who wouldn’t take there son? That would be hart braking.

  12. I think Herman E Calloway will send Bud back to his foster home. One reason is he is pretty old and it could be a little challenging for Herman to take care of a young child. Another reason is, Herman barely recognizes Bud because he didn't even know Bud's name.My final reason is, Herman didn't know Bud's mother so Herman may not even be a member of Bud's family. A conversation between Herman and Bud might be: Herman: "I am not your father. Go back to your foster home". Bud: "I thought you were my father but you weren't. To think I came all this way for nothing! "

  13. I think that HKC will say who are you kid? What are you doing here? I don't have a son. Who are your parents? Why do you say I am your dad? Who said that I was your dad? You don't look familiar. I will also be embarrassed, shy, feeling uncomfortable, shocked, weird, and he will also think: do I know this kid? Have I met him before? Have I seen him somewhere? What is he talking about? Has he lost his mind? What is he talking about? I am no father! I am old to be a dad. How does this kid know me? Is this a joke or what? You are mistaken, I am not a father!

  14. I think that Herman E. Calloway is Bud's father. Why else would Bud's mom keep all the flyers? It could have been the things that she didn't want to tell Bud and that's why she killed herself. Bud's real last name could be Calloway because Cadwell and Calloway are a lot alike. This is how I think Bud will try to convince Herman E. Calloway that he's his father -- I think Bud would say, "Do you remember me? It's Bud, your son."
    Herman: "What?"
Bud: "Don't your remember me at all?"
Herman: "Now that you mention it. I feel like I have met you before. You look familiar."
Bud: "I knew that you were my father."
Herman: "I am so happy to see you Bud."

  15. I have read this book before but what I thought when I first read it, was that Herman was going to be really nice and be Bud’s “dream father.” I thought I knew this because the entire book was about Bud finding his father and all of the things that he did on the way to find his father. It seems like it should have a happy ending, but it did not end like I thought it would. That’s probably all I should say so I won’t spill the beans.

  16. I think Herman E. Callaway would say he will live with Bud because Herman E. Callaway was starting to recognize Bud. Because when it was the end of chapter 12, Bud said Herman was making a face like he is starting to recognize Bud. I think Herman E. Callaway is Bud's Grand Pa. Also I think Herman E. Callaway is Bud's Grand Pa because in the text Bud said that Herman had wrinkles on his hands and cheeks. The conversation I think Bud and Herman E. Callaway would have would be like this.

"What is your name?", Herman said.
"My name is Bud Caldwell", said Bud.
"What is your mother's name, Bud?", Herman said.
"My mother's name is...", Bud said.
"Look, Bud, I am not your Dad, I am your Grand Pa", Herman said.
"Also, what happened to your Mom?", Herman said.
"My mother died when I was six years old", said Bud.
"What happened to her?" Herman said.
    "I don't know", Bud said.
"Oh, well, you can live with me if you want", said Herman.

  17. I think that Herman E. Calloway will take him in because Bud travel really far to find him, all the way from Flint Michigan to Grand Rapins. I think he may start talking to Bud and realize they have some things in common. for example: when Herman took off his hat he was bald headed and bud always wanted to have a bald head. Also some of the things that Bud said Herman also said.

  18. I predict that Herman E Calloway will keep him. I know this because when Bud pointed at him he said that he was his dad. Herman made a face like he knew Bud. Bud pointed at him because they sounded the same. For example Bud had the same voice and Bud wants to have a haircut just like Herman had. Another example is that if Herman was his dad there has to be a reason why he left. To add on to prove my statement I wonder how did he know it was Bud. I predict that Herman will keep Bud.

  19. I think that Herman E. Calloway won't send Bud back to the home because in chapter 12 Bud's dad proved that Bud and him think alike. When Bud saw his dad, his dad was telling a story and said the same phrase that Bud used at the Amos' house when he was getting beat by their son, and Bud said that you know when enough is enough. So I'm pretty sure that Herman E. Calloway will accept Bud.

  20. Herman E Calloway would be very confused and wonder who Bud was? He would ask him who are you ? Herman would tell him he was married when he was younger so I could have had a son. Then he would he would ask Bud what was his mother name was. I think that once Bud told Herman his mother name he might remember that he had a son. I think that Bud was scared and nervous going up to him. Though if Herman was able to remember his mother Bud would be so happy.

  21. I think Herman E Calloway will live with Bud because after Bud went threw all that trouble to find his father. For example, seeing his mother die because of the blue flyer when he was only 6. Also going to Hooverville and seeing Deza Malone and getting his first kiss with her but then loosing Deza and Bugs because he didn't make it in time to the train to Grand Rapids. Also meeting the librarian when Ms.Hill got married and moved to Chicago Illinois he needed to know and when Bud missed the mission for dinner the librarian gave him a cheese sandwich. And last but not least when Bud met Lefty Lewis and how he gave him that box with special papers and drove Bud all the way to see his dad Herman E Calloway, even though Bud had to lie to him. And I think that Herman E Calloway should not sent Bud to the orphanage because it would not be fair to Bud after he went threw all this trouble to find his father.

  22. I do not think that Herman E. Calloway will want Bud to live with him but I do not think that he will want to send him to a foster home. I think it will take a while for him to decide.
