My story is called: A ballad of the civil war.
The time period is in the 1860's. The time period affects the problem by taking a small disagreement between twin brothers into taking different sides of the war.
One of the twins, Tom, joins the side of the war that is against slavery. The other one, Jack, joins his father to fight against his brother. Sometimes I wonder how two people who love each other so much can end up fighting in opposite sides of the war?
I think that if Jack would have been less selfish when he was young, maybe they would have been fighting together for civilization. When Jack was little, he got a lot of toys that he hated for his birthday. Tom suggested to give the ones he didn't like to some poor slaves. jack said no and kept all the toys to himself. Tom gave toys to the slaves, nevertheless.

I think that moment was what set them apart.
At the end of the book, there was no solution to their relationship.

The time period in "A Ballad in the Civil War" is the late 1850's. The main problem in the book is that twin brothers are growing up together and apart. I think how the main idea and the time period relate is because Tom and Jack went on different sides in the Civil War, and there was a lot of drama and sadness in that time, so that is how they relate. I think a theme in the book is growing up. The author develops this theme because first when Aaron left, Jack didn't really care but Tom was really sad. Another example is that when the Civil War started Jack and Tom went on different sides.

  6. book club book is The cabin Faced West. The problem connects to the time period because they moved and the problem is that they have to work hard to get food. In that time period, people moved to get land but also had to work hard and harvest crops. One theme is Ann, the main character being lonely. The author develops this by making ann relieved when her mother joined her fake tea party.

My book for book club “Shooting star” is about a girl named Annie Oakley.

Annie is a sharpshooter and has seven siblings. Her father died, leaving her mother to take care of 8 children. Then her mother re-married. The new husband died after she had another kid. Annie’s mother did not have enough money to take care of 9 kids. So when they were starving one day, Annie had an idea that she could shoot some game. She shot a plump rabbit clean through it’s forehead. Her mother got angry at her for shooting the rabbit, because she thought that shooting and hunting was for men, and not lady-like. And it was not enough to feed the family. So her mother sent Annie to the poor house. The poor house was like an orphanage. She made a friend named Sally(who was an orphan), and made an enemy named Emmeline(also an orphan but does not like to talk about it) at the poor house. She learned a lot in school, and helped the poor house by taking care of the babies, sewing, and patching.

One day she was “adopted” by farmers who just had a child, to help them take care of the child, and to take care of the animals and crops. They said she would be rewarded with 30 cents a week+shelter+food.Annie named them mr. and mrs.Wolf , for they did not give her any money, they hit her, and they gave her bad food. One day Annie decided to run away from them. She walked all the way to the train station, where she met a couple who were very kind to her. They asked her if she was running away from her family, and she half lied and said no. The train came and they went aboard the train. And when she confessed that she lied, they forgave her, and gave her some food and lemonade. Then they paid her train ticket, and “made” her last name (Oakley)so she wouldn’t have to say her last name that her mother gave her, Moses, for she didn’t like it, and got teased because of it. When she got to her stop, which was the stop to her village, she got off, she took a ride with the mailman, which turned out to be her 2nd step-father.They had gotten a two story house with two bedrooms on the top and two bedrooms on the bottom.Annie sewed for money, but did not like it, for her mother wanted her to be a seamstress. One day Annie got tired of being inside , so she went outside, shined the gun, and shot three plump turkeys. Her father (he wanted her to call him Grandpap) was impressed but Annie’s mother was angry. So when Annie asked if she could sell her skins and meat, Annie’s mom did not like it,but she agreed, in her own way(for Annie’s mother was a quaker).

I do not know what the time period was, but I guess it’s somewhere in 1800s. I also believe this because they mentioned steam trains.

  9. My historical fiction book is about a boy named Caril Arick and he go's on this adventure whit his family to america. They going on this adventure because in there country Sweden there is no food and no drinks to drink so they decided to move to america. I think the problem in the story is that the family has no food to eat and no drinks to drink and another problem in the story is that they have to go through all these kind of problems just to get to america. I think some of the themes in the story are sadness , change , happiness. The reason i think this is because they had no food to eat and no drink's to drink and they were sad. then change in there life was going to america also they were very happy to go to america as a family.

  10. The problem is that Raven can't see her brother Star Face, Lucy's aunt Emma, was getting Raven annoyed as a result Raven left, and she can't get back because she will be in big trouble. she can't go back to the tribe because she can't leave Star Face alone at the Indian School. It's related to the time period, because if Raven would leave the indian school for good, she needs to have good survival skills in order to make it back to the tribe - especially if she has to take care of her brother as well while they are on their journey.

The theme that I would like to write about is friendship. I know this because Lucy and Raven, keep developing their friendship. At first Raven and Lucy didn't speak to one another, and as the story goes, their friendship grew stronger and stronger, for example, it started as no talking, to talking, to helping each other out in bad situations such as; Lucy had to cover up on Raven's disappearance. The author develops this theme by keep adding evidence of a stronger friendship between the two.

The name of my book is A Shooting Star. The main problem relates with the time period because the characters, (Annie, ma, grandpap, and Jason) are poor and are having issues with their mortgage. The author develops important details very nicely, like he makes an important detail than he waits a little bit and then adds another important detail. An important detail in A Shooting Star is that Annie’s dad and sister, Mary Jane have both died.

  12. My mentor text is a long way to a new land. It relates to my piece because it is about going through a lot to get to a place were they would survive in peace and no harm, and so does my piece. They are also similar because they are both from the 1700.

  13. I think in my book, The Cabin Faced West, the problem ties in to the period. The problem is that Anne has no friends because she recently moved away to the other side of the mountain. The story takes place during the pioneer days when people would leave friends and family to start a new life.

Also, in The Cabin Faced West, a theme that the author develops is that Anne hates Andy. I know this because Anne says, “And what’s so fun about that?!” to Andy. This is not a nice sentence to say to someone and she has a lot of attitude, she would only do that to people she dislikes because she doesn’t act this way to Daniel.

The main problem in my book, The Cabin Faced West, is that the main character, Ann has no friends. This relates to the time period because this is when the Pioneers started building America. Ann's family had to move from Gettysburg, where her best friend lived and that is why she had no friends.

I think a theme in this book is kindness because Ann teaches Andy, a boy that lives near where she moved to, how to read and write and since there were only schools in Gettysburg he couldn't learn from a real school.

Another theme in this book is family because Ann's mother and father helped out another family -- Andy's family because his mom was sick and they needed help. This also relates to the theme of kindness. However, Ann's brother David looked in her diary and she got really mad, so that is not such a good example about family.

In my historical fiction piece ( julian and the battle of quebec) he gets trapped from his own ambush plan they take him to the slave market, Julian was the first person on the block to get sold. Also in squanto he finds good men who free squanto and take him to a home. In my historical fiction piece he finds his army to ambush benidect arnold and his men to avenge thier village and all of the familys. This is why squanto and Julian and the battle of quebec are simalar. Thanks for reading my blog piece!

  17. I am reading with my book talk group The Cabin faced west by Jean Fritz.

The main problem in the story relates to the time period because Ann, the main character in the book, has no girl friends. This is because back then houses weren't just feet apart. They were much farther. There are only boys and babies living near by.

One theme is moving. The author develops that theme because Ann moves from Gettysburg. The Arthur Scott, another character in the book who is living with Ann's family, stakes a claim on the other side of the mountain and then goes off to build a cabin there.

Andy, a boy in the story, will move once his father gets back from a very long hunting trip, and his mother gets better.

That is how I know the author, Jean Fritz, develops this theme.

  18. The historical fiction book that I'm reading is called Ballad in the Civil War. The time period is in the late 1850s the main problem in the story relates to the theme because at that time the civil war was going on. One theme that the author develops is drama. I know this because in the beginning there was a little drama when Aaron got sent to the quarter then at the end there was more drama when Tom and Jack went to different sides of the war.

My book group is reading " A Shooting Star" a novel about Annie Oakly the woman sharpshooter. This book takes place in the 1870's. The problem in the book is that Annie's mom is a quaker and wants Annie to be lady like. But Annie loves and has talent for shooting. Annie's family is poor so she keeps shooting. You wouldn't have to shoot animals and be ladylike in today. That is the problem that relates to the time period.

my book talk book is a shooting star and is in the 1800s. Back then there werent many medicines that could cure people. One of the main problems is that one. Another problem is that they hardly have any money. That is why they had to send Annie to the infirmary. The problem about medicines is that their first Pa died of freezing cold and second Papa died of illness and oldest sister Mary Jane died of illness. Even if they had medicine, they would not have been able to afford it. A theme in the book was Annie thinking of her family and the author built it by Annie finally coming home!!!!!! (:
