Reading, Writing and Math Goals

What are your goals for reading, writing and math?
What steps will you take to achieve your goals?

29 comments:

  1. Ways I can improve in every subject

Ways I can improve in math are:

1; Understanding more of the strategies that Mrs. Scarborough teaches us on the rug.

Ways I can improve in reading are:

1; Understanding the moral of the story.
2; Understanding the main problem in the story.
3; Knowing what the character is thinking.

Ways I can improve in writing are:
    1; To write more fiction.
    2; To write more Si-Fi.

  2. One of the goals I have in reading is to come up with more symbols. One way to do this is read my book more slowly and contemplate on what I am reading. In the book I’m reading with my Dad, One Crazy Summer, only now I realize Fern’s baby doll represents her mother, but I am coming with more symbols from my current just right book, Hold Fast.
One of goals I have in writing is making more characters in my
stories , for example, in my first independent writing piece, I only had four characters mentioned.
One way to improve in this is not to dive headfirst into the pool that is my story but make a list of characters and how they grow throughout the story.
One of the goals I have in math is to use a variety of strategies to solve one problem. One way I could improve in this would be to not rely on my most accurate and efficient strategies
but use some I don’t use very often. One example would be for 2/3 compared to 3/5 not to use my usual “butterfly method” but
use, let’s say, the division strategy, which I am not specifically strong at, then I would have more practice at the division strategy.

  3. My Goals For School

Reading: One of my goals for reading is to stay focused. I need to stay focused because I can get distracted easily. I get distracted by things like noises and movement. I will work hard to tune these things out. Another goal for reading is to finish books faster. I will try accomplish this bu trying to read more each day.
Writing: One goal for writing is that I need to find more things I like writing about. I will accomplish this by reading different types of books to inspire me. I also need to work on how I am using my words. Skmetimes I use too many words and sometimes I don’t use enough. I’m going to accomplish this by proof reading all my work.
Math: One math goal I have is to finish my math school work. I will accomplish this by writing faster and trying to stay focused. Another math goal I have is to work on better understanding word problems. I can do this by a asking my brother for help in dissecting the problem.

  4. My reading goals is to work on my symbols and make them better and focus on them.Another thing is focus on tracking in the book so I need to focus on that also because it is kind of hard for me my last one is getting better evidence.

My writing goals are to get better vocabulary and like get harder words so they are better.Another is clarity being a lot more clear cause sometimes it doesn't make any sense so also I should proof read and work harder a lot cause I need to fix my details.

My math goals are to work on many different strategy not only 1 or 2 because I need to work harder and listen to teachers and students. But in math I need to organize my handwriting so people can understand me.

How I am going to do these things is study them and work harder at home and school and be better so I can be a good student and also I am going to read more write more and practice math more.

  5. The goals for my reading is character belief system. The reason why I picked this goal because I don't really use it a lot. One of my goals for writing is better hand writing because when I write people don't understand my writing. Another goal for my math is fractions because sometimes I don't now where to put the fraction on the number line.

    1. The same thing happens to me in writing because I have bad handwriting.

  6. My goal for math is getting better at Division. This is my goal for math because I'm not really good at Division & Division is a hard thing for me to do so I need to work on division. My goal for writing is better handwriting. This is my goal for writing because I have really bad handwriting & when the teacher reads my writing she might not be able to read it & sometimes I can't even read my hand writing so I really need to work on that. My goal for reading is read slowly & focus on whats happening in the book. this is my goal for reading because some chapters,I don't get & sometimes its hard for me to think of a theory&evidence.

One way I can in improve in math is by reading math sentences slower so I can understand a little more and it can sink into my mind instead of just reading the sentence once and doing the wrong thing. In writing I want to be more serious and entertaining so my reader does not have to get bored so quickly I mean I am really good at writing but I still want to improve. One way I can improve in reading is by reading longer than normal and by reading tricky words a lot because once you understand that word you can spell it and that's also one way you can improve your writing too.

  8. My goals for reading are to get better at finding a symbol. First I will slow down and then re-read a part of the book to help find the symbol. Another goal is finding the themes in chapters. How I'm going to do this is when I'm reading a book, I will also slow down and process every word and it might be easier to get some themes.

My goals for writing are: spelling, grammar, punctuation and handwriting. For the punctuation and handwriting, I'm going to try to write a lot slower unless I'm under pressure for time, so I can catch all the places where I didn't get the punctuation and have better handwriting. For spelling and grammar, I will try to find the word or grammar myself in a dictionary or I will ask a kid in class how to spell a word. Also my goal is to improve revision. Right now I just speed through it, but how I can help is to take time and process the words and say "oh wait this doesn't sound right" and make changes.

For math goals, I need to work on my times tables. How I can do that is use my flash cards at home and go over them. And I can also check my work. When I don't check my work I get problems wrong and get silly mistakes. If I checked it I think I would get a lot better score on my math.

  9. My writing goals are to work on my details and spelling because I can’t spell words like destroy and destruction without asking or something like that and I need to work on my details because when I got one of my homework back once it said it needed more detail.

My math goal is to work on fractions because some math like the multiplication tables I know like the back of my hand and I don’t know fractions as easy as my times table.

My reading goals are to get better at finding evidence and get better at finding author’s message because it takes me like 5 to 10 minutes or longer to find evidence and it takes me sometime a few minutes other times days to find the author’s message or I don’t find one.

    1. Are you better at other theory types?

  10. My goal for writing is writing full stories. I can do that that by not writing long stories, staying focused on the direction of my story. My reading goal is working on authors messages as a reader. I can do that by paying more attention to what the author is trying to tell me and rereading things that don't make sense. A goal to help me to stay focused is not getting into my head as much. If I realize that I'm getting into my head by imagining things that aren't in the story, I can shake my head to get out of the daydream. A goal to help in my grammar and math is to work on proofreading my work for grammar and math. Slow down my writing, ask for help, have mom and dad proofread after me. For math, I would like to work on reading the problem so I can get it right and read it again after I try it myself.

  11. My goals in reading are to be able to talk to other people about books and understand what they’re saying if they have a complicated theory, because sometimes I’ll talk to some body and not understand something they said. I also want to vary my theory type because sometimes I’ll only do one type, and I want to be good in all of them.

My goals in writing are to improve my evidence and think deeper about the story and find evidence that was hidden in the text. I also feel that people shouldn’t instantly agree with me because my evidence was obvious because sometimes my evidence, everyone knows well and agrees with. I think I should use my vocabulary more often because I know I know the words, I just don’t use them, like right now I’m using basic words.

My goals in math are to use different strategy’s more often because on one paper I only used butterfly method. I also think I should double check my work more often because on one page, I took for granted that it was right and moved on. I also think I should think more instead of rushing so, I don’t miss anything.

  12. My reading goals are to extend my vocabulary. For example, one time I was reading the series chronicles of Narnia and as I was reading a word popped up that I didn't know what it really meant. Another thing that is also my goal is to get better at coming with symbols. One time I was making a thesis statement on symbols and I just couldn't think of any symbols!

One thing I need help with is spelling. I think this because when I was revising my work I found that there was a few words that I misspelled but, I don't think that's that bad because everybody could misspell words sometimes.

A few math goals are, I need to use more strategies for long and short math problems. Another thing I need to work on is multi-step math problems. I know this because one time I was doing a multi-step math problem and it took half of my brain space. Whenever this happens I go off topic and I don't think and then I write something down that doesn't even help solve the equation.

  13. My reading goals are that reading more and thinking my theory and E.V on my book while reading and I need to work on my character motivation and believe system.

I need to work on these thing because I don't read that well and I am having a hard time thinking my theory and E.V while reading my story really hard.

My goals on math is to understand fractions and how to do long division on fraction.

These are my goals because I really don't get how does the long division help me and I don't get how the long division works on the fraction and the steps to do it and the decimals.

My goals on writing is to write more details and punctuation and to write more big ideas and to revising my work.

These are my goals because I don't have enough details and I don't get how details work that well.I have a hard time writing my punctuation because I don't get when to write the ,'s.I don't get big ideas that well because I have a hard time on writing big ideas.
I also need to work on adding more things to the story.

  14. Math: In math I would not be able to say mathismatical words correctly. If I know the answer to for example…… the butterfly method I would say circle the 2 and 3 and Ms.S might say I don’t really get to circle 2 and 3 and then I revised hat I said and said ring 2 and 3 together

Reading:Symbols are one of them because when I read I really don’t understand what symbols were but now I understand what symbols in reading is. a Symbol is a iteam that is important to the main character because when or if someone is dead they have that memori of them and can never ever ever ever lose it

  15. My goal in reading is to write better and more deep evidence for my read-aloud and book club theory and evidence sheets.

My writing goal is to write stronger introductions and conclusions and to add more detail to my written pieces.

And my math goal is to learn more strategies for fractions.

  17. MATH GOALS
One goal I have in math is to my times tables past twelve. the way I am going to achieve this goal is by practicing every morning and night.

Another Goal I have in math is to do my math problems quicker and more efficient. The way I am going to achieve this goal is by learning quick and efficient math strategies.

Another math goal I have is to not make stupid mistakes on tests. The way I am going to achieve this goal is by paying more attention and focus more on my tests. One example of this happening to me is on a test I accidentally wrote 40x40=160 where it is really 40x40=1600.

    WRITING GOALS
One writing goal I have is to get better at thinking of what to write. The way I am going to achieve this goal is by writing more often.

Another writing goal I have is to like writing more. The way I am going to achieve this goal is by writing more and to care about what I am writing.

    READING GOALS
One reading goal I have is to read lots of different genres of books. The way I am going to achieve this goal is the next time I get a book I will be sure that it is a different genre then I usually read.

Another reading goal I have is to read slower so I can notice small clues and details that mean a-lot in the book.

Another goal I have in reading is to start taking notes on my independent book as well as my book talk book.

My reading goals are that paying attention to what we're reading and to improve my thesis statement(Compare with theory)more. In reading workshop, I didn't listen is because I do something else(I do the same in book club, but not often). My reading status is poor. So that's how I have to work on reading more. My writing goals are that I have to write more besides drawing in my writer's notebook. In my writer's notebook, I have to just write about something e.g. a diary. So that's how I have to work harder in writing. Also, I have to edit with a writing partner because last time I didn't have a partner when I was editing. So that's what I've to do next time. My math goals are that I'f I learned it already, I'd still had to do it. For example I learned the butterfly method in PS.369(PS.67)before. So if I had to do it again, I would have to do it still. Since I'm a super math student, that means I learned fractions, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, geometry, order of operations and long division. So that means I don't have any goals in mathematics, which means that I'm good at math.

  20. For reading, my goals ar symbols. Ineed to get better at finding them. In writing, I want to write longer stories. To do that I need to think about the story for a while and write how the characters willact and get some big jucey ideas for the story. The second thing in writing that I need to work on is my spelling. I need to just work on simple everyday words so I can get better at spelling. My handwriting is also another thing I'd like to work on. I need to take my time to make to make my hand writing better. I also need to do more proof reading so my stories can be better and not be as boring. One last thing for writing is capitals and punctuation. I have to always check my work to make sure I have everything I need for my story to be awesome.

Now, for Math, I need to work on making my handwriting extra neat so I don't make any silly mistakes adding or subtracting. Also in math, I need to proof read everything so I can make sure everything is right. I also need to slow down so I don't make any silly mistakes. That's what I need to work on in math and that's all I need to work on in all!

  21. My goals in reading are to slow down and try to learn how to sound out more words. Also, I’m going to try to read more on the weekdays after school. These are my goals because I want to do better and become a better reader.

These are the steps that I will take to complete my goals. I am going to work hard with my tutor to learn new sounds. After school I am going to read instead of playing. I need to slow down when I am reading because when I don’t, I misread them or read them incorrectly.

I think that if I complete my goals I will become a better reader. After I complete these goals I will make new goals to become an even better reader.

I have two goals I want to accomplish in math this year. My goals are to learn geometry and do multiplication and division problems quicker. Learning geometry is important because I want to be smarter than my Dad. I need to know how to do multiplication and division quickly because I need this skill for future math classes.

These are the steps that I am going to take to complete my goals. I will practice problems in my math workbook that I have at home. I will make index cards with geometry terms and then study them. When I don’t know something I will ask my parents, my teacher, and my tutor.

I think that I can reach these goals if I try hard.

  22. For reading some goals I'm working on are being able to notice when the author is trying to say something but not litteraly saying it in the text.

I'm also working on digging into the text and pulling out the best evidence I can find.

I'm working on trying to notice when characters are changing for example in becoming Naomi Leon at the end of the book Naomi finds her voice and starts to speak up for herself gram and Owen.

My last goal is to understand the text.

In writing, some goals I want to work on are having clarity in my evidence and using the best details from the text.

Also I'm trying to work on gramar and vocabulary for when I'm editing my writing pieces.

One other think I'm trying to work on is revising each paragraph thoroughly until I'm sure I can't do any better and I absolutely love it.

One last think I'm working on is re-reading the text to make sure I didn't miss any evidence or something important.

In math some goals are trying all strategies that I learn.

Also I want to work on not giving up when I don't understand the problem.

One other goal I want to work on is helping my partners with understanding the problem.

One last thing I want to work on is practicing at home and maybe doing some problems with my own family.

One other last thing that I want to try is to ask my parents how they learned to solve their problems in school.

  23. My reading goals are to focus on the big ideas and write about what I discovered.I want to read more to increase my vocabulary and comprehension skills.I want to boost up my reading level by reading ever night.
My writing goals are to gather my thoughts before writing down notes. I will also focus on the mechanics of writing such as, punctuation,Capitalization,Spelling, and grammar without forgetting my ideas that I want to use. My goals for math is to use more than one strategy to find answers to my problems.I will read the word problems more carefully to avoid making silly mistakes that I made in the past. I will take my time when working on my goals so I can receive good grades!
