We learn a lot about a character's beliefs when we look at their actions.
Think about Bud's actions in Bud, Not Buddy.

Bud believes that you have to tough at a young age. One example is, when Bud went on the lam all the hornet stings hurt him but he didn't let that stop him. Another example is when Bud was trying to get the food on the line and the man said that was the last family, Bud was determined and kept asking for some food. That almost got him lashed by the cook. This shows Bud was both tough and determined.
ReplyDeleteOne of Bud's actions is being creative. One example is that when he was locked in the shed, there was a piece of yellow paper in front of the window and light was shining through it so Bud made puppets, like wolves, ducks, and birds. This makes Bud's belhive system be imaganitive.
ReplyDeleteBud is also empathitic. One example of Bud being empathitic is when he was leaving the home to go to the Amoses, Jerry was crying and bud was cheering him up, and knowing exactly how he felt. Another example is when he was at the church and a little boy stuck his tounge out to Bud, Bud did'nt stick his tounge back out to him instead his said that he would'nt want to share his mommy or his brown shuger either. This makes Bud's belhive system be that he belhives that if your not the on feeling bad or sad, that does'nt mean that you should not be helping and knowing what that person is sad about, because what if it was you, would'nt you want someone to feel how your feeling and care fore you.
Bud believes that his suitcase and the flyer are really important to him. They are like a symbol of his mom before she died. I know this because when Bud was at the Amos's and the Amos's were going to take him into the shed, while he was walking to the shed with the Amos's and he passed the kitchen and saw his suitcase under the table he felt a lot better. And he hoped the Amos's didn't take anything from the suitcase or harmed the flyer or picture of his mom.
ReplyDeleteShayma, I really liked the way you put why Bud was empathetic. I liked the way you described how Bud made Jerry feel better and I liked the way when you talked about how he felt for the kids.
ReplyDeletebud name is important to him because his mom said b ud dont let anyone call you buddy ok he said yes moma and his mom bud your name is named after a sunflower and bud said iam not telling anyone that i am named after a sunflower and not letting anyone call me buddy.
ReplyDeleteI think Bud believes that revenge is important.I know this because in chapter 3 Bud said "I wonder how hard I would have to pull the trigger on the double-barrel shot gun for it to go off."Another example is when Bud said "Aha,you doggone Amos', that hurt but now I get my revenge!"A final example in the text to support my belief is when Bud gets inside the Amos' house and fills an empty jelly jar with water. After getting upstairs he sneaks into Todd's bedroom and pours water over his pajama pants causing him to wet the bed. As you can see with the evidence above Bud believes that revenge is important.
ReplyDeletein bud not buddy he believes that no one could bring him down for example when he went into the amos shed he didn't cry in the shed and say let me out of here he had fun while doing shadow puppets he was stong and for a 10 year old that was tough and when he got stinged by hornets and cut by razor-sharp fish heads he still was brave a walked to the library window that's tough and not crying .
ReplyDeleteBud believes that getting the revenge on the Amos's is good. For example in the text it said I wonder how hard I would pull the trigger on the shotgun.
ReplyDeleteAnother example why he wanted his revenge on the Amos's is when bud said "aha, you doggone Amos's ,that hurt but know I get my revenge on you".
My last and final reason is when bud put a rag on the bottom of the sink to not make a loud sound when the water is pouring and then he filled the jelly jar all up to the rim and when upstairs to pour the water on Tod to make it looked like her wet the bed because Ms. Amos's didn't like people wetting the bed!
Bud believes that you should never give up. I know this because when Bud went into the line for breakfast a man told him to not get in line because it was the end of the line. But Bud kept arguing to get in line even when the man pulled out a belt to strike him with. Sometimes never giving up gets Bud in trouble, but sometimes it helps him. For example, when Bud was locked up in the shed he could have given up but he tried to bust the door and window open when he still knew he probably couldn't. Never giving up is a good belief.
ReplyDeleteIn Bud,not Buddy I think that one of Bud's beliefs is that no kid should go through what he has gone through. I know this because one, Bud actually said no kid should be treated the way I have been treated I agree with Bud because know one should have to go through razor sharp fish heads, Todd Amos beating you up or any twelve year old kid and he or she gets away with it and having no one with you and being on the run and having a bunch of wasps stinging and chasing you.
ReplyDeleteBud believes that his suitcase is super important. one example is when Bud was at the home leaving for the Amose's he went under the bed nd got his suitcase and checked to make sure everything was there and he said that he checked every morning and night to make sure no one took anything. Another example is when the Amose's were taking Bud to the shed they passed the kitchen and Bud saw his suitcase under the kitchen sink and he said he felt a lot calmer then he was before. And also the suitcase representshis mother so he always keeps it close
ReplyDeleteBud believes that you have to stand up for what's right and you gotta' do what you gotta' do and get back. I know this because when Bud was trying to get to the mission for food, he kept trying to get in but a man said, no. Bud kept provoking him but the man said, "That's it! You opened your mouth one time too many." But he was saved by a man before the man strapped him. He ended up getting food without getting strapped. Another reason is he wanted revenge on the Amoses. He thought, "Aha, you doggone Amoses. That hurt but now I get my revenge." He had done the dip the finger in the hot water trick. Still this shows that Bud believes that you have to stand up and do what you gotta do. This teaches me that I must not give up no matter how bad things are. I would have never learned the equation strategy if I hadn't gone to Math Club. I'm not talking about getting even but I know I need to stand up for myself.
ReplyDeleteBud believes when one door closes another door will open. I know this because his mom use to tell him that over and over and over and bud didn't get it at first but then later he found out what it meant. When Bud was under the Christmas tree really sad he thought about what his mother said"when one door closes another door opens".
ReplyDeleteAnother thing that Bud believes is that being brave can sometimes be stupid or smart because that was even one of Buds rules. "some times you have to quit not because you are a quitter you gust have the sense to know when enough is enough". When he was fighting with Todd he said" I was being kind of stupid but I woudn't let him call me Buddy and stick a pencil up my nose".
Bud is the type of person that doesn't give up no matter what. Whatever he is up against Bud never gives up. When Bud was in the shed he thought that a bat was in there, though it was hornet nest. He hit the nest by accident because he thought it was a bat. Bud got stung a few places on his face, his cheek, palm and leg. Even though Bud was in a lot pain he didn't cry. Bud is a bit of exaggerator when he said that there were sixteen thousand hornets when it was more like six hundred. I think that Bud is like this because of everything he has been through.
ReplyDeleteBud's believes that at age 6 you become a grown-up.I know this because his mom passed away and he didn't have a father. He had to go to an orphanage and then to a foster home.He also mentions that when he gets upset or gets hurt, tears just don't come out. This reminds me of when Bud was in the shed and when he was bitten by hornets he didn't cry,he just busted out by breaking the window. My final example is that when he was cheering Jerry up he just nudged him wit the shoulder.
ReplyDeleteBud believes you have to do what you have to do. I know this because when bud was in the shed he thought he saw a vampire bat, so he decided to kill it. He picked up a rake and cut the vampire bat which was actually a hornets nest. He broke it in half. This resulted in him being really swollen with 4 hornet stings. He decided to break the door down which did not work and cut him too because of the fish heads. So after his failure he tried to open the window again, it worked. He thought that being scared made him stronger. He climbed out of the window and rolled away from the shed on the ground to get the rest of the hornets off of himself.
ReplyDeleteAnother example is clear at the mission. This is where Bud kept begging. Bud asked to go into the line for breakfast but the securoty guard said"No, sorry kid this line is closed." Bud still wanted food badly so he begged more and more. Up until a man brought a strapper to spank him. Lucky for Bud, another man came up to Bud as well and claimed him as his son Clarence. But Bud does not like being a different name becuase his Mom said be a Bud.
In conclusion I think Bud's belief if you have to do what you have to do! Once again thanks for reading my opinion. I also think Bud is a fighter that does not give up and I want to be like that in life because it inspired me.
Bud believes that you have to be strong once you turn six. Like when Bud was six the three foster homes he got hit a lot. That shows that Bud needed to protect himself. Also, in Bud not Buddy, Bud had to have a pocket knife to protect himself. When Bud was in the library sleeping under the Christmas tree in the basement Bugs was standing in front of him but Bud was nervous so he jumped up and almost stabbed Bugs. All these examples show that he believed he had to protect himself because no one was there for him.
ReplyDeleteBud is brave and doesn't take risk. One example of why Bud is not risky is, Bud could've got on the train to Chicago but he didn't he probably just could've jumped and if he was lucky he would've made it he should've just took the risk.Another is example of why Bud is brave is because when he was on the lam he had no parents to take care of him and after his mom died it was hard for Bud and he had to deal with the Amoses and he never cried about anything. My last example is when Bud was hungry he went to that dinner to eat breakfast after he went on the lam and when he got there the man said no more people could come and the man said for Bud to leave and stop talking but Bud stood there and the man had a weapon he was gonna hit Bud with!!!
