Writing Noticings

Think about how your writing piece is going so far and the work you have done in your writing groups.

What genre are you writing?
What have you noticed about your genre?
Describe at least one thing you learned about your genre and at least one thing that was difficult (a challenge) and why.

  1. So far the piece I'm working on is in the genre of writing a personal narrative. It's about a family vacation when we traveled to California. So far, it's going ok. The speed of my writing is good.Sometimes, it's hard for me to do the right punctuation for my writing.Sometimes its also hard to remember things about myself to put in the story. That makes writing a personal narrative harder than a made-up story. These are some of the things I learned about the genre I'm writing in.

  3. I'm writing in the genre of non-fiction. I'm writing about my hamster, Dumpling. She looks like a dumpling and she's pretty fat. So far, it's going well because I did my revisions and no one really has done that yet. I feel that I might be ahead of other kids in the class. I've noticed that not many people chose non-fiction in our class so I thought that would be cool. I've learned that writing non-fiction is hard because you have to organize it so people can read it easily. While I was revising I noticed some wrong grammar and spelling too. And that's what I've been doing in my writing so far.

  4. I am writing personal narrative. I have noticed that personal narrative is the only thing in my writer's notebook. I have noticed that I usually write about my family. I find it's easy to write if you've gone to a lot of places. But what's difficult is that it takes me a long time to get started but when I start writing I can't stop.

  5. I am writing a fantasy story about a girl named Alex.My writing is going good. me and my group have bin doing good i have got new and cool ideas from reading other pepoles writing.I have noticed that if you are doing a fantasy it haves to have a fairy or a monster or a princess and made up stuff like that in otter to be a fantasy. One thing that was difficult is:coming up with a theme or a main problem that was difficult because i had to make up my own fanasy person or thing and then i had to make up a problem and that is just hard.Another hard thing for me is:I have a hard time writing punctuation for when pepole speek or camas.

My writing piece is going well so far. I think that my group is doing really well and we are all writing. I am writing fantasy. I have noticed that fantasy is really just writing a story using your imagination. I also think that when you write fantasy you're usually having fun. I learned that my genre can be scary,it can be, funny, that it can be many things. My genre is challenging because you have to think a lot more about what you are going to write in your story and stuff like that.

  6. i am writing fantasy story about a girl named minrel and she wants to be a rock star but is a princess.so far my writing pretty good my group and i are fixing our ideas together. i have noticed that my story is sorta fantasy in to realistic because my charter minrel has the power to fly and yet she is a princess and living a normelish princess life. i learned fantasy can start out like a realistic fiction story and BAM hits the fantasy. what was difficult in my writing was finding the write story to write from my writers notebook my first choice was a story that had no point really. and so i chose a story {witch is minrel} and i wrote the draft and i realised my mistake my story was not fantasy and so i had to change walking to flying and news paper to how to fly better.

  7. The fiction story I'm writing about these crazy characters saving the world. The skills they have aren't that bad. The goal their trying to reach is destroying the evil dark lord that hatced from the evil villain. The thinking of the story was very easy since I wanted to make fictional characters that had not much experience of fighting . I love writing about various characters that have a normal life. And sooner it will learn how to fight and other skills

  8. I am writing all about girls gymnastics. I noticed that it sounds bad if you don’t put your facts into categories. It’s also confusing if you don’t put your facts into categories. I found it hard trying to concentrate for a long period of time while writing. No matter what genre I’m writing in I always find it hard to write for longer than 10 minutes. Then I have a habit of doodling which I am trying to stop. In my piece I’m writing about artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics. I learned that all about pieces really don’t sound good at all if you don’t put in detail. My challenge with this genre is putting my info into words. Thanks for reading!

  10. I am writing action and comedy. I’ve noticed my genre is the easiest to write. I learned that my writing of action is very excellent. Sometimes it could be hard to write or type it into a computer.

  11. I am writing a story about a girl who loves magic but her mother hates it. This writing peace is fantasy. I have noticed that when I am writing fantasy I tend to be very focused on getting the writing on to the page and some times not writing fantasy at all.I usually catch my mistake but some times the teacher has to point it out. I learned that when writing fantasy, you must enjoy writing it or no one can enjoy reading it. in the middle of writing my story I was stuck with what to write next, so I put my head down and thought about fairies, rainbows, ponies, Barbie, and Harry Potter, and I came up with a magic locket. I think my writing is going very well!

  12. I am writing fantasy.
In fantasy you can make any character, like a unicorn or an alien. Your story can take place on Mars or La La Land.
In fantasy you can introduce any character into your story
What is difficult is thinking of a story that is not realistic fiction, and adding fantasy characters.

  13. I am writing fantasy.
I think that lots of people like fantasy because it's creative and fun and there is nothing you can not do in fantasy.
My story The Dragon War is coming out great .I believe most of the spelling is correct and is doing good .
I have wrote around 13 pages on the 2nd step of writing.
To me my story is very interesting .It's also very long book on the white paper , around 13 - 14 pages I think so far .To me starting is very hard because sometimes I think of something and start writing and then I think its no very good .There's nothing and nobody to push me on when I start writing.

  14. My genre is fantasy. I noticed that fantasy is not real and hard to get situated in the story. What was difficult was that I had to start over because I didn't get it.

  15. My genre is Biographies, I notice that in a biography you have to write about another person. I know another type of biography called an Autobiography. A Autobiography is when a person writes about themselves. The most difficult part of my genre was choosing the person I want to write about because I have a lot of family and a lot of friends so I had to write about the people I love the most and that was hard because I love every body.

  16. My genre is personal narrative. Something I have noticed aboout personal narrative is it's bascally small moments in your life. For instance, the piece I'm writing is about washing a horse who doesn't want to be bathed. Like Mrs.Scarborough says '' It's not a bed to breakfast''.
Something I have noticed that is hard in personal narrative is that you can't get all the details you want so you end up revising your revision!

    1. I agree!
Although I don't normally write personal narrative stories, I come across that problem a lot of times in on demand pieces.

  17. The genre I am writing is fantasy. What I have noticed in fantasy is that you can dream upon your mind and think off this planet!!!!! Awesome right! I have learned that with fantasy you can write anything you want! But there comes a down to all that. If you get stuck in a writing ditch it is hard to get out. It is hard to get out because fantasy you have to make it all up in your head. If you get stuck you have to think something up again it is not a memory you remember. It is hard. But I would rather go through that to think something up. For some reason it is easer for me. Not the ditches! Those are still are hard! Don’t get me wrong! Love you! Bye!

  18. I am writing a personal narrative. What I noticed so far about my genre, is that i when I was writing, I had a hard time staying on track. This is hard for me because it is difficult for me to write when I am thinking about something totally different than what I am writing. I also learned that working in a group is much harder than working alone because when you are in a group, you might have some people that are talking a lot and chatting with you and it’s hard to concentrate. I also think that when we are working in a group, it is easier in a way too because when you are at a table group and you’re sharing your ideas, the other person can think about those ideas and use them in their writing pieces.

  19. I am writing a fantasy story about a girl named Alice. She is a color fairy and she can change the color of elements and can make any natural material out of thin air. Some other characters in my story are Willa the witch, The Invisible Man, Ronald the Wizard, with his reading powers, Baroe, the dark side Queen’s most trusted soldier, William the werewolf and Bob the gingerbread man.
One thing I’ve noticed about this genre is that I used to think that writing a fantasy story was easy. You just write down something impossible and BOOM you’ve got a story; but it does not work that way. If you only live in the real world and don’t pay much attention to things that can’t really happen, it may be hard. But for people who run away with their imagination, things might go much smoother. Some kids think that a fantasy story is about fairies flying and dragons roaring, but there is a much deeper plot than that. I learned that sometimes you have so much information to pour out, especially because it is not a world that others live in, so they have lots to learn, but you have to give information bit by bit.
Something very difficult for me was placing the writing on the page. I wanted to make a lot of changes while drafting, but some changes affected other parts of the story that I didn’t want to change, so it was difficult to decide what changes to make. Later, I came up with a solution. At first it is possible that no one will get your story, but you have to work your way through the maze that writing lays out for you. In that maze, you may get confused and want to turn back, but you should keep on going and find the end. Once you get out of the maze, another one awaits.

  21. I am writing Fiction/fantasy because I love imagination. So this is an example of fiction/fantasy A fox broke a brick wall, a man got so mad and a regular man wood not get that mad . Also foxes cant do stuff that I put in my story.
I have noticed Characters act deferent then in normal life characters can have special abililities .The reader really needs imgination .

I think coming up with a good long story and deatle and all the parts to mack a good story of fiction/fantasy is hard.I used a lot of imagination in a part where a fox broke a brick wall.

  23. The story I'm writing about is personal narrative. One thing I noticed is that people say they are writhing personal narrative but they write about their uncle or someone else. They are not writing personal narrative because personal narrative is about you. Something I learned about my genre is that it could be a small moment in time. Nothing is a challenge in my writing because in personal narrative all you do is write about something that happened to you and that's easy for me.

  24. my genre is personal narrative. My story is about my first ,second ,and third part of my florida experience, this will be a whole story with three parts. Choosing this genre makes my writing a little easier because it’s about my life and my family so its based on things that really happened to me. the most difficult thing is trying to remember details to make the story interesting. I like being in groups because they give me ideas when we are talking aboutare stories.

  26. In my writers notebook I am writing personal narrative . When you write personal narrative you are not able add made up events. I noticed that none of my storys have problems.
I have learned that you always want to change words to make the story much better.
