The book I'm reading in my book talk group is The Great Wall of Lucy Wu. The main problem in the story is when Lucy thinks that she will have the best summer ever, but her whole summer is ruined. She finds out that her great aunt, Po Po, is coming to visit. Her mother makes her attend Chinese school. What Lucy wanted to do with her summer was get rid of all of the evidence of her older sister Regina sharing her room with Lucy. I know this because in the text it says, 'Now that Po Po is coming, I will never get to decorate my room the way I want for the rest of the summer.' This shows that Lucy won't get her room to herself. Also in the text Lucy thinks, 'Talent Chang was speaking to my mom about attending Chinese school.' This shows that Lucy's mom is thinking about making her attend Chinese school.
ReplyDeleteThe authors message in Hidden Figures is that black woman matter. I know this because the book is about 4 black woman. Also because the book is in a racist time period. I also know this because back then black woman were treated the worst. So I think the author is trying to say that black woman can do great things for the world.
ReplyDeleteI agree, there are so many black women that do great things.
DeleteThe book I am reading in Book Club is “The Skin I’m in”, the author’s message is that you shouldn’t judge a person by their appearance. My first piece of evidence is that Miss Saunders has a skin problem that makes people nervous around her but when she jokes around with Maleeka’s class they feel more comfortable around her. My second piece of evidence is that Maleeka has raggedy clothes that make people think she’s uneducated but actually she is very smart because she wrote a very good essay without anyone’s help.
ReplyDeleteI think David from the book Rules is kind of like Owen from Becoming Naomi Leon. I say that because they both have a problem that they cant really fix like how Owen had to have a couple of surgery`s and how David has a hearing problem and hears things very loud. There also both calm and have a sister that love them. Naomi and Catherine are the main character that also is a little the same.
ReplyDeleteIs that like a pattern, their behavior?
DeleteThe book I'm reading in my societal issues book club is Hidden Figures. The author's message is that black women are not getting enough opportunities. Men and white women have more advantages. I know this because in the book it said that they started letting white women work in 1940 and in 1943 they let black women work there. But the black women were not allowed to have the same types of jobs as white women, they couldn't even use the same bathroom. Also, the black women didn't make as much money as the white women did. Dorothy's motivation is her right to make the same amount of money and use the same bathroom as white women. She wants justice and to be able to make money for her family.
ReplyDeleteI think David from the book rules is like Owen from Becoming Naomi Leon because there both disabled,Owen his legs are uneven & he has to wear a taller shoe on his shorter foot,David he has problems with hearing & he covers his ears whenever he hears something because it sounds way more louder then it actually is for him so he doesn't like it even though he doesn't show it witch a lot of disabled kids do in books but Owen first he was doing it but he stopped during the vacation to Mexico so David might stop to.
ReplyDeleteIs that a symbol?
DeleteIn book talk I’m reading The Skin I’m In. I think the character Charleese believes that she is in charge of everyone. I know this because she ordered Ms. Saunders around, like,” howbout you gimme that Rolex of yours.” And such. Another piece of evidence is that, During class when she didn’t get her way, she just walked out.
ReplyDeleteThe book that I am reading in my book club grope is called The Great Gilly Hopkins.
ReplyDeleteThe main problem in this book is that Gilly goes to a foster home and Gilly's mom left her.
In her school she doesn't have any friends.
I know this because in the beginning of the book it said that Gilly lives in a foster home.
This book also reminded me the book Bud Not Buddy because Bud gose to a foster home and his mom passed away and left him in a foster home when he was 6 years old.
what is your theory????
DeleteIn book talk I am reading the skin i'm in and I think the authors message is that it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside but what you look like on the inside.
ReplyDeleteI know this because the book is about a girl named Maleeka and on the outside everyone thinks she is ugly but on the inside she is actually very smart.
Another way I know this is that everyone thinks ms. Saunders is ugly and weird on the outside but on the inside she is smart and very kind.
In my book club book called Gilly Hopkins, the main problem is that Gilly is already being rude and mean , like calling people dummy, and cursing at grow ups and kids.she might not know but all of these people are trying to help her for example,Mrs.Trotter is giving her extra help, and Mrs E ,but every time they help her,she goes back to the same old Gilly. She act like no one ever helped her.
ReplyDeleteThe book I'm reading in my social issues book club is Rules. A pattern I notice is Catherine keeps getting embarrassed by her brother David.
ReplyDeleteI know this because in the text David pulled down his pants and then Catherine pulled down the window shade so no one could see him and then got him out of the way.
I also know this because when Catherine's family was inviting the new neighbors over to their BBQ, Catherine asked her mom if David had to be there.
The book that i am reading is the great Gilly Hopkins. the problem in this story is that Gilly has a behavior problem. i think that because Gilly likes to curse at kid and adults. I don't think that Gilly is going to have a behavior problem for the rest of her life i think its just temporary i am saying this because she doesn't get to see her mom because she in a foster home and she doesn't she her dad but she still has someone that loves her and that person is Mrs.Trotter.
ReplyDeleteThe Book I'm reading in book talk is The Skin I'm In. I'm choosing character Motivation.
ReplyDeleteMaleeka is a girl and the main character of the book. She gets made fun of because of the color of her skin and because her mother messily hand sows her clothes. Then, a new teacher comes. When the new teacher comes, Maleeka along with the other kids, make fun of the new teacher. what motivates Maleeka to tease this teacher is that she wants to fit in. She thinks she will fit in more if she teases this teacher like the other kids, and if she wears proper clothes. One piece of evidence for this is that when the new teacher asks, tell me what my face says, Maleeka says, "not to hurt your feelings, but I think your face says that you are a freak". My other piece of evidence is that when her Mom finally buys Maleeka a nice pair of clothes, she says, "no one is going to spoil my new clothes or my day". All of this shows that Maleeka wants to fit in.
The book I am reading in my social issues book club is The Great Gilly Hopkins. The main problem in the story is that her mom separated from Gilly and went to foster homes. First, she was sent in the principal’s office for making trouble in her class. Then, the social worker drove Gilly to her new foster home. Later, when they arrive at Gilly’s new foster home, Mrs. Trotter came out the doorway and let Gilly in. Mrs. Trotter introduced Gilly’s new sister, William Ernest. When Gilly heard the word “mom”, Gilly felt sick in her stomach because she would always remember being separated from her own mom. I feel very bad for Gilly. Oh well, I guess this is the end because I have no more ideas.
ReplyDeleteThe book I'm reading in my social issues book club is The Great Gilly Hopins.
ReplyDeletei don't know what the authors message is because i'm not far enough into the book yet
The book i am reading in my book talk group is Hidden Figures. A author’s message is that you can’t judge a book by its cover or judge a person by their skin color. I think that because in the text it said there were 4 successful black women that went to NASA and became smarter than lot of white people there. Also, in the text it said that a black women did the math to launch the first person in to space (for america) doing it by hand without using computers or calculators
ReplyDeleteThe book I’m reading in my social issues book club is hidden figures.
ReplyDeleteOne of the themes is standing up for your self.
I know this because in the text it says one of the characters Miriam Mann ripped off the sign that said "colored computers". This shows that she is brave because she stands up for herself.
Another example is that they even chose to do this job and leave their families and homes. That was also brave.
The title of the book I am reading is called Gilly hopkins by Katherine Paterson. The main problem In the story is Gilly can't fit in.I know this because in the text it said the last time Gilly went to a new home with new foster parents they had to send her back to the foster because of her behavior.Another reason why I think Gilly hopkins can't fit in is because she dose weird stuff like playing with gum and putting gum in her hair .Gilly has a new foster parent and she take care of the next door neighbor he is blind and really old. She ask Gilly to help her with the next door neighbor.one time Gilly almost made the next door neighbor fall because she was being mean and malicious toward the neighbor.Gilly is going to write a note to her mother saying her foster parent was being rude and racist si her mother can take Gilly.
ReplyDeleteIn the book I’m reading the great wall of Lucy wu the symbol to Lucy is that the quilt popo Lucy’s grandma made 2 quilts for Lucy and Lucy’s sister Regina so when she died they would have a reminder of her. When Regina wanted to bring Lucy’s quilt to collage Lucy said no so Regina ripped it apart and before Ashe went to collage she apologized
ReplyDeleteThe book I'm reading in my social issues book club is Amber Brown.
ReplyDeleteThe Main problem was every thing that the fortune cookie mention came true.
I know this because the fortune cookie mention "You will have a new beginning and a new life. So Justen end up moving away to start a new beginning and life..
That made a problem between them both, with him and Amber..
The book I'm reading in my social issues book club is The Skin I am. In the book Maleeka is motivated to avoid getting teased. I know this because after she got teased about her clothes and the color of her skin, she joined a bad group of girls. They gave her new clothes. The group of girls smoke and skip class.Allthough she joined the group of girls she still got teased but not a lot.
ReplyDeleteIn the book The Great Wall of Lucy Wu I think Lucy has mixed feelings about her sister because her sister tore her quilt but then she was being very nice. She said "You know I would never do that right Lucy?"Lucy's sister was also being pretty mean to Lucy. She pushed her out although it was the right thing because someone was sitting there but she could have said it a bit nicer.
