Opinion: Do Kids Still Need Homework?

Read the article below from Scholastic News, "Do Kids Still Need Homework?".

Do you think it's important for kids to have homework? Should kids only have to read after school? Should kids at PS261 have more or less homework than they do now?

    No, I do not think that teachers should distribute homework out because 1 sometimes teachers pass out to much homework so it might be chalenging [mabye TO chalenging]. And 2, they might not have that much time to hang out with friends and family.

      I think kids should not have homework because then they can have more time with relatives instead of doing homework and you are wasting your outside running play time and you could forget to do it and the teacher would get mad because you could go to the zoo and forget to do it or your mom would make you do it when they were going to the zoo and they left you doing your homework. Or you are sick and you didn't get homework the next day you would get extra homework.

      I think there should still be homework because kids need to get a little extra work so they could increase their brain so they can know a lot more stuff so they get a grade or get into a good college. And some kids don't do their homework and that is really getting them not to know that much and they might get left back from not doing their homework. And if they get left back a grade and that can happen from not doing your homework and you are not learning anything from that.

    I think kids should get homework because you might learn something that you don't really know about. My second reason is homework is educational it will help you remember what you learn in class. My third reason is it could help you more with your class work.

    I think kids should get homework because it's very educational. it can also help us review everything our teachers taught us in class.my second reason is that it can help us.my third reason is that you can be ready to go to the next grade.

    Yes I think we should have homework because it is reviewing what we did in the day, so we might understand it better. Also because homework sometimes can be fun, and it could teach you things you don't know. It is also very important and it prepares you for the state tests if you're in third or fourth grade and other things like that.

    I think that we should still have homework.Because if we didn't get homework we wouldn't be learning as much.For example if the teacher gives us a math lesson then for homework if we get math homework then we will understand more plus with homework we have a better grade which is really good!

    No kids should have homework because it takes up to many family time. Kids should only get 50 minutes of reading or study spelling words for 30 minutes.

    I don't think kids should still have homework because they have other things to do. For example, on the weekends my sister doesn't get to spend a lot of time with me because she has to do so much homework. Some kids like me have a lot of work to do when they get home. And most kids hate it. And if they have afterschool they will miss some of that. That is why I think kids should not get homework.

    I think kids should have reading homework and not written homework. 30 minutes of reading is good but 60 minutes of reading and writing is too much because then you're in a big rush to finish.

    Yes, I think that kids should still get homework for these three reasons. One reason is homework is an extra step of learning. For example, at the end of the day homework is like work at school but you do it independently at home. A second reason is that homework is a way to help you get better at the topics you do in class. A third reason is if we never had homework, we would be playing and watching TV more than anything.

    I think teachers should still give homework to kids because not only the teachers have to see if you have a good education in school they also have to see if you are doing good math,writing at home too. Another thing is that you must keep on practice on the things you don't know not just In school also at home. that is why I think schools should give kids homework.

    I think kids should get homework because,your parents will know what you are doing in school.Another reason is your teacher will know who needs help in class. My last reason is if you don't understand a subject in class, you can ask your parents for help.Then maybe you'll understand it better.

      When we get homework we have to get lots of sheets and it wastes our play time and tv time. It wastes our time because we have to do homework, reading, spelling and vocabulary. That's why we should not get homework.

    Yes, I think kids should have homework. The first reason is that it will help out with our education. Second it helps students to remember what the teacher teaches throughout the day. Lastly by repeating the work from the school board helps kids to solve problem.

    Yes,I think kids should have homework for these three reasons: homework is a practice for your test, you learn a lot from your homework and homework will be proof to the teacher that you listened.

    My first reason is that homework can help you on the test. For example:you got homework and the next day you had a test on something similar to your homework the test will be easy.


    My second reason is that you can learn from homework. For example:you have to read a non-fiction book you would learn facts.

    My third reason is that by doing homework the teacher will get proof that you paid attention to the teacher.For example the teacher was telling you how to do your math homework but you weren't listening and then at home you might not know what to do.

    I think that kids should still get homework for these three reasons. When kids learn math in school when they get homework they have to review the class math and that helps kids to review their multiplication table. Kids would learn more from the day in school and at home. Kids would understand their work in class.

    I think we should have homework because it helps kids understand what they did in school. Some parents want to know what there kid worked on in reading, math or writing. Some teachers want to know what kids can do things without them learning it first.

    I think kids should have homework because it helps you learn and helps you get smarter and it helps you learn multiplication and adding and story problems and sometimes helps you read and write and do fractions and division and helps you go to a higher level in math.

    I think kids should have homework for testing and math, writing and reading for you can do more and homework is good for you and homework is also a way to practice the subjects that you are failing in school. That's why homework is for you to improve on your subjects. That's why people made homework for you to learn logic and learn about new things in life for things.

    no, because i think it can be a big waste of time and effort. homework increases stress and anxiety for most students. I am writing this while doing my math homework, that i hate and has taken an hour. I dont understand how it is basically "Go to school and do work, and then go home and do more school and work!" i think reading is a good activity and we should be doing that after school, but lots of teachers assign to much homework and it is a lot for students to handle. Like, if one teacher can't teach all subjects, then why do students do work for all of them?
