Women's History Month

March is Women's History Month. Ben's mom, Cindy is a US History professor and she came for a visit to teach us about women in history. We discussed a lot of topics and did an activity about the role of women in history and their unequal representation in the historical record.

What did you learn from this lesson? Use specific details in your response.

  1. I learned that woman always worked even if they didn’t get paid. I also learned that woman were and will always be helpful. Cindy also talked and asked us what would you think if all of the girls had to leave the classroom everytime there was social studies. I think it’s would be very segregated and wrong because girls should be able to get the education.

  2. What I learned was that back in the days, all kids learned was about men. They wouldn't learned about women in history. It was all about men. I feel sad for girls that don't have the right to go to school or women that don't have a job and they have to stay home and clean the house. When I see girls like that, I feel like they don't exist they're just a shadow. I think girls should get more attention.

  3. what I learned is that girls only went to school for one year then their moms would take them home and the girls wouldn't get any more changes to learn. They would only cook and clean and do the housework. I feel that women should have gotten to be able to go to school more, because that is what boys got to do. Women couldn't vote for a really long time no matter how many marches they went on or how many protests they did. Women who did work, would not get paid as much as a man did. This makes me very upset because I think women should have a better part in history and when I look into the history books and I only see men. It makes me very upset because even if a women did do a good thing, no one wrote it done. As a girl this makes me so upset because I realize if I was back in the day and I did do something good and it weren't in the history books, it would be lost to history. As a girl, I think about how it would be for me if I was a women in the old days.

  4. I learned that only men was in history and to me that is crazy because women are important in history but in history women are treated like things no one can see. I think it is weird not to let women go get a job but let them clean the house they live in and that stuff. It is sad to be women then. Like back then a women is like nothingness and men is like god. Women then should have been in history.

  5. I learned that women did not get treated equally as men. One example is they did not get paid as much as men and were usually lower ranked in their business system. Another example is that women were not allowed to vote. I also learned that women are still not being treated equally everywhere. For example they are still not allowed to play major sports like baseball and football.

  6. When Bens mom came I learned that the reason women were not given the same respect as men in America is that the Europeans stole America from the Native Americans (with lethal force) and the Europeans did not give women the same respect they gave men so when they stole America their ways affected America.Another thing I learned when Ben’s mom came is that a while ago kids were only taught men’s history and they didn’t include how women helped shape America, bad and good.

  7. I learned a lot of things from Ben's mother about women's history. I learned that women did not get a lot of credit for what they did. There were very little stories about women. It was like women did not exist in history. Women also did not have the same rights as men. They got paid less and they could not vote. If a woman got married her husband would most likely make her do all of the housework. He would also make her cook dinner.

Today women are still being treated unfairly. In some places women can't go to school. Also, some women are still paid less than men. I hope by the time my sister is a woman, women are treated fairly.

I learned that back then, women weren't allowed to be with men. Women weren't allowed to vote back then. New Zealand was the first country that allowed women to vote. Then next was our country, the United States allowed women to vote on 1920. England was the last one to allow women to vote on 1925. Women weren't treated the same as men back then. For example, women didn't go to colleges or universities with men. When that thing began to stop, more women are graduating from colleges and universities than men. When boys and girls were created equal, they all go to the same school together. The 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution enabled women to vote and have the same rights as men. So that's how women and girls are in the same class and the same rights as men.

  9. When Cindy came in, I thought a big idea we discussed was the fat that without women, we wouldn't exist.

One example is that when we did out time lines, she had us cross out the parts where women were there emphasizing the fact that women are there most of the time and were the ones who gave birth to you!

My second piece of evidence is that when she asked us what we noticed about women in our lives, the thing that came up was how much women are involved in your lives. How women are the ones who give birth to you and they are the ones who grow the future.

My third piece of evidence is when we realized when most of the timelines all or are mostly crossed out because women are there, that shows how important women are.

  10. When Cindy came, I learned how unfair and sexist people could be. Apparently, Blue and red were "Boy" colors and Pink and Purple were "Girl" Colors. The most unfair thing was that let's say that there was a job for a construction worker, any woman that applied for the job probably wouldn't get the job. Also, Women, not so long ago, stayed home with the kids or babies while the man went to work.

  11. I learned that women were looked at as basically slaves. Men would expected women to cook and clean all day. I also learned that there were only white presidents (which we all know, i just felt i needed to point that out). Also, there were no women presidents. And wanna know something you probaly did not know, there were actually not one (which you probaly know as Barak Obama) but TWO black presidents. But ill get into that another time. Bye yall!

  12. What I learned in this lesson is that women me is as important and men and also on timeline every important event my mom was there so that means they are special also if women weren't here then men wouldn't be here either. Also what I learned is that everybody in the whole world can be who they want to be.Also back then women were kept all day cleaning and taking care of there chrildren and it was very sexist so this is what I learned and that it should stop women are as important as men.

  13. I learned that not only are women treated slightly unfair in public. But they're also treated badly on social media, TV, and video games. For example, Super Mario and the Legends of Zelda, by Nintendo, there is a female princess who gets captured by a big monster and the man goes to save her. This is unfair because it makes the women look bad, like they can't defend themselves. (But honestly, who could fight those things that they get captured by? They're giant monsters!)

Also, women were treated bad a long time ago too. Like, if a man did something bad to his wife and the woman called the police about it, the police would say, "What did you do?" instead of "what did they do?" or coming to the house.

  14. What I learned from Cindy is that a long time ago, in school, girls were wiped out from history because no one would talk about them. It was all men there was no women history. I feel like that is unfair because no matter what a woman does it's equal to what a man does, it doesn't matter what their gender is. If a woman does something amazing she should get the same credit as man.

SHe also talked about how we would feel if everytime we did social studies, and girls were kicked out of the room just because we were doing social studies. And I felt like that would be unfair for the girls because they should be allowed to learn what boys learn and there is no reason they should have a disadvantage in learning.

  15. I learned that in the past, women were treated unfairly; They were not aloud to vote, they were paid less, and everybody assumed that women couldn’t do anything physical.

I also learned that if women were earased from history then 99.99999999 percent of events would not make any sense.

  16. When Ben's mom came in and talked with us I learned that a long time ago at school's they only studied about Men and not women witch I think is really unfair because if women were not alive the whole world won't make sense and I also learned that women change world a lot.

  17. What I learned from bens mom a long time ago girls weren't in history and all these years there hasn't been one president who was a girl.

There was very bad men and if a man hit his wife and she called the police the police would say "would did you do this time ".

Also the men would do social studies while women would go out the classroom and read a book until the boys are finish the girls would come back in.

  18. I learned that women have always worked even if they aren’t paid. I also learned/realized that without women none of us would be here, and people don’t really think about that, mostly just the fact that they are a woman. When Cindy made us cross out the times on our timeline when a woman was there, and most everybody had everything crossed out which shows that women are just as important as men and always were there and alway’s will be there.

  19. I learned about history in march that is woman's history month. I learned that woman were treated like they weren't even a thing back then. Deep down I knew that I wouldn't be here with out my mom and she is female so I think back then people should of thought that with out there mom, wife or daughter they would not have a daughter or grand children or they would not even be ware they are.

  20. when ben's mom talked to us about woman history she said 'woman didn't work back then only men did i thought it was unfair because if a man can have rights woman can to . also think it was unfair back woman didn't have rights because it felt like woman wasn't good as men and it was very sexist
