  1. the authors message is listen to what you were told or else there will be consicuinses.i know this because in the text Byron was told not to play with fire but he did and his mom was going to burn his finger. also Larry Dunn did not give back the gloves to Kenny so Larry got punched and pushed against the fence.

    1. I agree with you Sarah. I agree with you because you should listen to people that are older than you because they know best.

  2. The author's message is that you should be a kind empathetic person to others. The reason why I say that is because Kenny understood the new kids pain and he gave them lunch when they didn't even have a snack. Also Joedda begged mamma not to burn Byron' s fingers and when mamma was about to burn Byron Joedda blew out the match over and over again.

  3. Byron’s motivation to being cool is because he is a juvenile delinquent. I know this because in the text when the mom was going to put By’s finger on fire he was trying to act cool by not crying or screaming. Also, Byron keeps on picking on kids younger than him.

  4. The mom has 2 sides to her. First, she bundled Kenny and Joetta up in warm clothes because she was worried they would freeze. But then, she tried to burn Byron's finger!

  6. Momma's motivation is when her kids don't listen. When Byron didn't listen to momma, momma grabbed Bryon by the neck and was going to burn Byron'' finger with a match

  7. The main problem in the story is Byron was in the bathroom he set a fire up in the toilet good thing because what if it blew the house up. Then he got out and his mom grabed his neck and the moms voice was starnge. She said to Byron to put his fingers out because his mom said he will burn his fingers. Byron started crying like a baby so Joetta saved Byron because he was gonna burn him. Joetta blew 4 times to the fire so she can save Byron.

  8. So far in the book I think the authors message is to be protective and kind. When Joetta was watching her mom about to burn one of Byron's fingers she stepped in front of her mom when her mom lit the match to burn Byron to stop her from doing it. When Joetta did that her mom sat her down and told he that she sweared to god that the next time that the next time Byron lit a match in the house she was going to burn him. Even though Joetta heard that her mom sweared to god about burning Byron's hand Joetta still wanted to save her brother so she kept blowing out the matches about 5 times until her mom finally agreed that she wouldn't do it and would let Joetta's dad whoop Byron instead. That is my evidence from the authors message.

  9. Byron does bad things to be cool I know that because when Byron does get in trouble he tries to act cool and he does bad things A LOT. I also know this because Byron really wants to look cool and would do almost any thing to look cool.

  10. The author message is that you can be kind. My first piece of evidence is that Kenny gave his sandwich and a apple to his classmates ruffs and cody. My second piece of evidence is that joetta stoped mama from try to burn byron's finger. Joetta help byron by blowing out the mach. And that is the author message.

  11. Byron’s belief system is that if he does certain things, he will be cool. I know this because Byron thinks if he goes to Bupheads library and looks at naked women magazines he will be cool. Byron also thinks that if he skips school with Buphead and hangs out with little thugs, he would be cool.

  12. An authors message is that crazy things happened in 1963 that don't happen now. I know this because the mom tried to burn Byron and people don't do that anymore. Also, Byron was lighting matches and setting toilet paper nazi parachutes on fire just for fun when NO ONE in there right mind would do that today.

  13. Bryon believes if he acts cool everyone will like him. I know this because in the text Byon lit a match on fire to act cool. Also, he punched Kenny because he wanted everyone to think he was cool and tough. The mom believes that her kids are extremely important. She bundles Kenny and Joetta in lots of clothes when it’s cold. Also, she got Kenny and Rufus's friendship back together.

  14. Byron believes it’s cool to misbehave. My evidence is that Byron puts toilet paper on action figures. He then sets them on fire and pretends that he’s making a movie. 2. Byron beat up Larry Dun . Byron took the gloves out of Larry Dun’s hands. He didn’t care that Larry was just trying to survive. The only reason Larry took the gloves is Larry could not afford a nice pair like Kenny. Even Kenny felt bad for Larry. 3. Byron looks at a lot of inappropriate magazines and is a bully to some kids. He threw his brother in to a pit of snow. Who does that?! That is why Byron thinks it’s cool to misbehave.

  15. My theory is "Ready aim" fire is his own way of saying "Here we go again" just like Bud said, in the book Bud Not Budd. For example when Kenny go to sit next to Rufus and got teased even more.

  16. I think the main problem is getting along with each other. Kenny is always getting bullied and getting called cockeye Kenny and that doesn't help. Rufus gets bullied and is called country cornflake

  17. The main problem in the story is Byron's mom was so mean that made Byron get scared. Byron's mom was almost burning Byron but then the mom gave up because Byron's sister kept on blowing the fire because Byron can't get burned. The mom even made a snake voice that made her kids get scared.

  18. Joetta is nice kind and helpful and gets scared fast. The mom is mean trying to protect her kids and scary. Byron is mean and does mean stuff to his brother. Kenny is nice and does not like to see his brother bully other kids. The problem is Byron is mean and does not listen to his mother and trying to act like his is not scared.

  19. My book talk topic I chose is character motivation. In the Watson's Go to Birmingham momma's motivation is violent because she was putting her son's hand on fire and Joetta motivation is she is caring because she convinced her mom not to burn Byron hand on fire. She blew out the candles four times and momma was going to put Byron's hand on fire.

  20. Momma believed if she burned Byron's finger he would stop burning matches. The real problem in the story is bullies. Larry Dunn stole Kenny's gloves and Byron beat him up. Byron is a bad influence on Kenny. I believe that Larry is poor because he had holes in his shoes and under his armpits of his jacket and he wore no socks.

  21. Byron has a way of doing good things in a twisted way. One thing that shows that is he got the gloves back for Kenny but he started throwing Larry don again and again against the fence. Also he wanted to be nice to Kenny by cursing with him.

  22. the authors message is to not be mean and respect others, my evidence is that when ever byron does something mean some thing bad happens to him like when Byron put that stuff on his hair he ended up with no hair at all because his dad cut it all off. This shows that don’t go against authority. Another reason why is when he lit action figures on fire his mom threatened to burn his finger this shows that when some one says something they said it for a reason

  23. A pattern that I see is that Kenny keeps on saying “ready aim fire”. I think that he says this when something bad happens. I know this because in the text when Byron had his hair straight Kenny said “ready aim fire” because he know that something bad was going to happen to Byron. That bad thing was shaving all his hair off. Also, when the mom said that it was cold here Kenny said “ready aim fire” because she miss the warm.
