i choose feelings dad is feeling stress out i know this because he dealing with Catherine`s mom and David taking him to the video store also he dealing with work and and making a exuse. jason feeling sad i know this because he going to speech therapist also he in a wheelchair and can`t swim or run and he tap the card incompeted David is feeling sad i know this because he can`t act like a normal kid also he has to follow rules from Catherine. Ms. Morehouse is overprotected i know this because she put her hand out like a polcie grard also she was worried so she said ''be careful''mom feeling mad i know this because she yelled at Catherine`s dad because he had to take David to the video store also she slamed the kitchen door. Catherine feeling torn apart i know this because she dealing with David disabity also with her mom.
ReplyDeletemine is feelings cats dad is feeling stressed one detail is that he doesn't talk to cat and focuses on the tomatos that he is choosing another is he keeps on redirecting anything that cat is saying to the tomatos.
ReplyDeleteI chose feelings, dad feels depressed because he has a kid with a disability I also know this because the dad refused to Catherine when she said she wanted to do something special with him. Catherine felt shocked when Jason used his word cards to say "Me Wish To Die." And Catherine shouted " DON'T SAY THAT!" and I also know this because Catherine said she will miss him.
ReplyDeleteJason feels incomplete I know this because he can't run of walk I also know this because he can't speak and jog. David feels glum I know this because when it's past five o clock he screams when the dad is late I also know this because David always counts on the dad to take him to the video store at five o clock. Mom feels upset I know this because the dad does not pay attention to the kids I also know this because the dad comes home late most of the time.
The symbols in the book are the gum wrapper because Ryan gave David an empty one and he burst into tears.
ReplyDeleteAnother symbol is the tamatoes because the dad was spending more time with them than Catherine and David.
Another symbol is the frog and toad book because David
uses it to communicate with other people due to his autism.
Catherine feels embarrassed because David cannot be in public otherwise. He may have an episode in front of people. Catherine feels nervous because when she met Jason for the first time, she drew a picture of Jason and Ms. Morehouse got angry at her for drawing him.
ReplyDeleteDavid feels hurt because when Ryan Deschaine gave him the empty gum wrapper he thought there was something in it, but there was nothing in there. Jason feels depressed because he said he feels incomplete. And he had a dream that he can run even though he has CP. Jason feels lonely because he’s basically alone tapping his communication book.
Catherine’s mother is overprotective because her son has a disability, so he needs OT and it seems like, the mother cares more about David than Catherine. Catherine’s father feels stressed out because he got in a fight with his wife and wants relaxing time by planting tomatoes and working at the pharmacy and, maybe taking David to the video store.
A non-helper in the book is Ryan and Kristi because when Ryan had gum and he gave one to Catherine and then he gave just the gum wrapper to David and he got sad. Kristi looked in Catherine's notebook and asked "is he your boyfriend."

ReplyDeleteI chose feelings, belief system, and authors message. Catherine is feeling jealous of her dads tomatoes because her dad hangs out with the tomatoes more then his own kids. When Catherine tries to hang out with him he would always,say ''maybe later.'' or ''we can't afford that.''He also uses his tomatoes as a way to isolate himself from his kids. For example, when it's time to take David to the video store he would get in a argument with the mom about taking him and he would decide to work on his tomatoes a bit more,and then take him. Jason feels like he's incomplete because he said he wished he would die. Catherine's mom believes the rules are not helping David, and he needs to learn how the world works on his own. She said that because Catherine is using the cassette player to help David show his emotions and communicate better. When the mom thinks he should figure out the way of the world on his own without the help of others. I think the authors message is that everyone is not the same and we should all learn to accept people for who they are. Also understanding their disability does not make them less of a human being in this world.

ReplyDeleteThe book talk subject I choose is symbol.A symbol in the book Rules is the Cassette player I know this because David has autism a disability that makes you not able to articulate your feelings. But the cassette player helps him articulate his feelings more.Another example of a symbol is Jason's word cards I know this because Jason has cerebral palsy and he cant talk so he has word cards.Before Jason had boring word cards but when Catherine started to make word cards for him he had strong emotion words and exciting ones too.Another example of an symbol is the rules for David to be normal since David has autism that is kinda impossible.But the rules are for him to be normal.Another example of a symbol is the gum wrapper I know this because Ryan tricked David with the empty gum wrapper. Catherine yelled at Ryan and didn't let him give David a piece of gum so she gave David hers.Another example of a symbol is Catherine's drawing book I know this because Catherine draws her feelings and she writes rules for David in the notebook as well and she thinks about words for Jason in the notebook too.Each symbol reflects a different important scene that helps tell the story Rules.
ReplyDeleteThe topic I chose was feelings and here are some good examples. Catherine is jealous of the attention that her mother always has to give to David because that takes away from their time together. For example, when the mom takes David to therapy Catherine wishes they could step away to go shopping or do other things together while David is at therapy. Catherine also wants to spend quality time with her dad but he keeps paying attention to the tomatoes. She asks him to go to the mall but here mom wants her dad to take David to the video store instead.
ReplyDeleteJasons feeling is sad. I know this because Jason said he wanted to die, he said this because he has disabilities and can't speak. The second reason Jason feels sadis because he thinks maybe Catherine doesn't like him because he can't swim and he doesn't know how to talk.

3. Catherine and her dad were gardening when she asked if they can go on vacation. Her dad replied no and he went right back to gardening the tomatoes. Catherine felt upset with his answer and Catherine was unhappy when she felt her dad was caring more for the tomatoes than her.
4. Ryan feels that bullying is cool because that is what he often does to David. David can't stand up for himself because he has autism.
5. Catherine felt jealous when she saw Ryan talking to Kristi. Catherine was hoping to be friends with Kristi first and was worried that Kristi would not want any other friends.
The book topic I want to choose is feelings.The book Rules has many different example of feelings.
ReplyDelete1) Catherine is feeling sad an example of that is Catherine and Jason got into a argument about the community dance and Jason got angry because she didn't want to dance with him.
2) Dad is isolating himself because he doesn't really care about Catherine and David and he just ignores them instead of actually listening to them.
3) Jason is feeling hurt because Catherine made excuses and refused to go to the dance with him so he rolled away back to his room and the conversation wasn't private and people were watching and she ran away crying.
4)Catherine is feeling pressured because Kristi kept trying to convince Catherine to come to the dance and tried to make excuses but Kristi had an answer for every excuse.
5) Kristi is feeling hurt because Catherine didn't let her dance with David and she said''I don't like when people make David look stupid'' then Kristi said ''I just asked him to dance how is that making him look stupid?".
Each character has shown there feelings in different ways.
