Read the poem, "Myself in Metaphors" by Joseph O. Legaspi.
The author uses lots of metaphors to describe himself in this poem. A metaphor is a figure of speech in which two unlike things are compared.
1. After reading this poem, do you think the speaker likes the way he
looks? What clues does he give you about his feelings?
2. What do you think the speaker means in the last line when he says,
"I am my world, and of the world?"
3. Write your own metaphor to describe yourself.

yes the speaker does like the way he looks because he is saying my eyes are luminous.and the speaker also said on cold nights in the caverns of my nostrils.the second question means he is apart of the world but also his own world.i am lightning illuminating the sky.
ReplyDeleteyes does speaker does like the way it looks because luminous that is a light that is bright
ReplyDeleteNo I don't think the speaker likes the way he looks because he compared himself to other things, for example, the speaker compared his nostrils to caverns. I think that what the speaker means in the last line when he says "I am my world and of the world" is that my world is everything and my world is what I do and say. My metaphor is "my hair is the sheep's wool that is soft and very curly. My eyes are the suns that shine in the sky. My nose is the mountain that rises high. My face is my world that is very unique".
ReplyDeleteI think the speaker does like the way he looks. For example in the poem it said "my eyes are LUMINOUS bodies of water" . Another example is in the text it said
ReplyDelete" building a fire on cold nights in the CAVERNS of my nostrils"
The speaker means that he is part of the world he lives in.
I'm the sun, shining brightly In the sky reflecting light and seeing everything learning all that I can peacefully sleeping in the nights sky I am the sun
i agree with he is part of the world he lives in he really is his nose is mount everest he ears are canyons his nostrils are caverns.
DeleteAfter reading this poem I think that ''speaker'' does like the way he looks because he gave his own self a comment. For example speaker said ''my eyes are luminous bodies of water , reflecting the sun''. And luminous means very bight , so that basically means that speaker gave him self a comment. Another example is speaker said I admire the canyons of my ears. when speaker said " I am my world, and of the world'' he means he is just like any other person, but he has his own life that is different from others.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this poem I think Speaker does like him self because he gave him self a complement. For example Speaker said his eyes are luminous bodies if water, reflecting the sun. And that is basically giving your self a complement. Another example is speaker said ''I admire the canyons of my ears''. When speaker say's ''I am my world, and of the world'' he means he is just like every body else, but he thinks differently. A metaphor that describes me is My eyes are jewels sparkling in the sun.
ReplyDeletei think he does like the way he looks because he wrote a poem about it. i think he means by i am my own world different parts of my body are kind of like parts of the world for example if each strand of my hair is a star my head is a galaxy. this is my metaphor to describe me i think i am a new solar system because all my fingers are weird shaped planets and my head is the milky way and the rest of my body is planets and alien space ships.
ReplyDeleteYes I do think that the speaker likes the way he looks one of the examples that shows the author likes himself is he says "I admire my canyons of my ears" and he said "my eyes are lumptios".I think that the author means by saying I am the world and of the world is he is himself and other people are there world and you have little world's but the biggest world is earth. My metaphor is I am a snow leopard I like playing in the snow and I am quick and elusive but not the biggest preatedor.
ReplyDeleteHe definitely likes the way he look. For example in the seventh stanza he says he admires the canyons of his ears. It also says my eyes are luminous bodies of water reflecting the sun and luminous means very bright.
ReplyDeleteI think it means he's in his own world but he's also in the real world.
My metaphor is that I am reading machine.
No I don't think the speaker licked the way he looked because in the text the speaker was saying bad things about how they look. The speaker was discribing his or her body.
ReplyDeleteI think the speaker that he/she has to accept who they are and how they look because on the outside you might think you look weird but your really beautiful you just don't know it yet.
A metaphor to discribe me is,My nostrils are small shinning diamonds.
I ment to spell liked and looks.
ReplyDeleteThe author dose like the way he looks because he says that his eyes are shining and he said"I admire the canyons of my ears the slopes of my chin and my cheeks".
ReplyDeleteWhat the author meant by saying" I am my world and of the world" was that he was pretending that he was his own world and that he was in the world.
A metaphor that describes me is: I am as good at math then a calculator.
I think that the author feels like he likes himself for example my face is the globe where I live MY forehead is an open field . I think the author means he's the world. my metaphor is i give smiles.
ReplyDeleteI think the speaker likes the way he looks because he compares parts of his body to good things like a star.
ReplyDeleteI think he means his body is like its own world, for example he described his forehead as an open field. He says “of the world” because he was describing his body as parts of the world. A metaphor to describe me would be my body is a beautiful sun.
I think the speaker likes the way he looks because he said each strand of his hair was a star and his head is his own galaxy. At the end when the speaker says ''i am my world and of the world'' means his body is his world because the whole poem was about his body parts and compared them to other objects. My hair is fur of a bear. My face is a glass of a window. My eyes the color of a bears fur.
ReplyDelete1 - I think the speaker likes the way he looks because he describes his head as a galaxy. He is thinking of the world as his face. Also he uses the word "admire".
ReplyDelete2 - I think that he means that his face is the world and he is living in the world. He uses his nose as Mount Everest and he uses his ears as canyons.
3 - My dad says my eyes are deep chocolate brown.
1. Yes, I think the speaker likes the way he looks because the metaphors he uses are nice.
ReplyDelete2. I think that when he says "i am my world and of the world" he means that he's himself but also never going to be alone and always will have friends.
3. My head is round just like the sun, and like the sun my shine just never ends.
Yes, I think the speaker likes the way he looks because in the poem he says, "I admire the canyons of my ears." He also says "my eyes are luminous bodies of water reflecting the sun."
ReplyDeleteTo me this means that his face is his own world and that the part when he says "and of the world" he means its a world inside a world.
My arms are like tools, that can create anything I can imagine.
After reading the poem I believe that the speaker likes the way he looks. I think this because when he said that his are luminous reflecting the sun and luminous means bright. Reading that tells me that he likes the way he looks.
ReplyDelete2.I think that when the speaker says" I am my world, and of the world" that he is in his own world when he thinks about his looks.
3.My arms are like worms that move around and help me. My head is like an earth it never stops spinning. My legs are like moving tools that help me run walk and jog. My eyes help me see into space and my world.
1) After reading this poem, I do think that the speaker likes the way he looks because he said that he admired the canyons of his ears, the slopes of his chin, and the slopes of his cheeks.
ReplyDelete2) I think he means that his body is like a planet but he is also still in on our world.
3)To describe myself in metaphors I would say that my hair is mountains, my ears and nose are canyons, my eyes are seas and my head is the world.
I think this author likes the way he looks because he's describing himself as the world. For example he says "My nose is like Mount Everest." Another example is he says "My ears a re canyons."
ReplyDeleteThe speaker means in this last line where he says "I am my world, and of the world." that nobody can judge who he is. Also that he is living in the world.
"My face, my smile is like the sun!"
Olivia L.
Yes, because the speaker said my eyes are luminous bodies of water reflecting the sun. My face is the globe where I live. My forehead is an open field.
ReplyDeleteHe means I am my world, and of the world that you are not following other people. That you are being a leader and doing your own thing.
A metaphor is like talking about yourself. Like for example my arms are like sticks or my eyes are like a cow.
Yes, I think that the speaker likes the way he looks. For example, in the text it says "My face is the globe where I live. My forehead is an open field." Another example is also in the text it said "If each strand of my hair is a star my head is its own galaxy."
ReplyDeleteI think the "I am the world and of the world" means I am my own world and I live in a world with everybody else.
A metaphor I would use to describe myself would be when I smile the world shines with me. That describes me because I love smiling.
I think the author doesn't like the way he looks because he compares himself to an animal.
ReplyDeleteI think the last line means he is his own self.
I do think the author likes the way he looks but he is just picturing his head and hair as a park and caverns and a globe and furry animals. The speaker means the world is just about him. Time is a rubber band shooting me out into the unknown then bringing me back to center.
