So far in fourth grade I learned rounding numbers. I had trouble rounding numbers in third grade. In fourth grade the teacher explained it a couple times and this helped me understand it. Rounding numbers is finding out the nearest ten, hundred, or thousand to a number.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I have learned so far in fourth grade is how to use the vertical number line for rounding. On the vertical number line you place the next highest one, ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand, hundred thousand, or million on the top of the vertical number line. And on the bottom of the number line you place the next lower one, ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand, hundred thousand, or million. And in the middle of the vertical number line you place the mid-point number between the top and bottom numbers. For example if you were rounding the number 132 to the nearest hundred, then you would put 200 on the top and 100 on the bottom and 150 in the middle. Then you put 132 on the line based on if it’s above or below 150. The vertical number line is important to me because if i have a number to round and i can’t round it, than i could use the vertical number line to help me see where all the numbers belong. The vertical number line also helps me see why the numbers belong there.
ReplyDeleteI also learned a lot about vertical number lines

ReplyDeleteOne thing I learned in fourth is how to write a personal narrative. In 3rd grade I learned realistic fiction, nonfiction and fiction. I learned in fourth grade fantasy and more in writing. One personal narrative i wrote about was my brother being born and growing up.
It is important because my brother and I are close to together. I like explaining feelings and my family in my writing.
I learned that you don't always have to use the same strategie for every thing.I learned that numbers go up to millons place. And prombles i didn't know that was hard for me but ms.s helped me. in my writeing i learned that you can be in groups what you like writing about and writing about fansty is hard to write about
ReplyDeleteSo far in 4 grade I have learned how to use the algorithm. The algorithm is important to be able to do because then you would still be adding subtracting and multiplying on your fingers. The algorithm is much faster than counting on your fingers .Only when you know how to do but when you don't know it can be very confusing. In 4 grade I have gotten way better at the algorithm.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that the algorithm can be very confusing, one reason is because you might not know that you have to split a thousand or maybe another number between two other numbers.
Deletesara you are right because some people do not algorithm as well so it can get confusing
DeleteI knew how to do the number line but this year I've gotten better in doing it.
DeleteIn fourth grade so far I have learned how to write bigger numbers like one million or ten thousand and where to put the commas. In about the first week of school,I was struggling when trying to write a million, trying to know where to put the commas. Now I know where to put the commas and identify big numbers thanks to a place value chart. When our teacher put numbers on a place value chart and explained where and when to put comas,I understood and I now know how to write those numbers like a piece of cake. What stuck with me was place value and how I learned it was through a place value chart.
ReplyDeleteI also learned about place value
DeleteOne of the things I have learned in the fourth grade is that you have to know your multiplication tables by the end of the school year because: One it makes division a lot easier and also because everything you learn will be easier. For example if you were doing a test and you had five minutes on the clock and you were counting on your fingers to figure out 8x9 your five minutes would be up and you would still be counting on and on and so just think, my readers, if you knew all your multiplication tables you would be very good at math. So that is why I said that I learned that when you learn your multiplication table it makes math easier.
ReplyDeletei agree with Nora because when you know your multiplication tables than everything is much easier for you.
DeleteI also agree with nora because when you count on your fingers it take up time
DeleteSo far in fourth grade I learned how to use a algorithm in subtraction. It helps me with homework with hard problems. It's important to me because I really enjoy math and it's another strategy. This mornings lesson made me think addition checks your work in subtraction.
ReplyDeleteSo far in fourth grade I have learned what "expanded form" means. When Ms. Scarborough first taught us what expanded form meant, I had no idea what she was talking about. But now I know what it means! But in third grade I did not know what expanded form meant, and expanded form is something I only learned in fourth grade with Ms. Scarborough.
ReplyDeleteSo far in fourth grade I learned that having a big idea is very important because it helps me get a better vision of my class work. Example: big idea, when I read "Jake and Lily" I thought Lily was lonely because she never has playdates or play with the neighbors and she doesn't play with her brother anymore. Big ideas are important to me because they help me learn and big ideas are an easy strategie.
ReplyDeleteI leaned that I like writing because last year when I had writing homework I needed help but now I can do it on my own also better at it I use the 5 w's who , what , why , when , and where. Also I think I got a little better at math because I'm doing algorithm .
ReplyDeletewhat I learned in reading is to always be who you are and be your authentic self because if you change for somebody who is cool or popular you shouldn't change for them they should like you for who you are never change. one example is suds changed for judy billings. my second example into a rat so he can be popular.
ReplyDeleteThis year I learned how to use the Blog. It's important because people get to see my thinking and people get to give feed back. I am learning how to type better on the computer. Learning how to post things on a computer.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Rio, I enjoy the blog too and I'm getting better at typing.<3 :)
DeleteI agree with you Rio because I can improve with my typing skills and it's fun to comment and reply to the other classmates.
DeleteIn fourth grade I have learned that you have to always check your answers in math so you don't get them wrong or miss any. When you write, you should always have a beginning, middle and end. In writing you should have an idea and add on more pieces to your writing or think of a different idea.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Mateu because, if you check your work you might see a mistake. You should always check your work no matter what.
DeleteI think that the most important thing we learned is that we learned how to do an algorithm. So we could solve harder problems quicker. And the best part is that we could use this for different operations .we also so learned how to about different genres.I personally i am studying about fantasy. And i learned that non realistic stuff is important and also it also needs to have a lot of action.I also learned that sometimes you need to check back in the book to get your last evidence.Or if you can't come up with a big idea then think about character traits, feelings, motivation and themes. If that doesn't help try ask someone to help you.(unless on quiz.)
ReplyDeleteOne thing I learned in 4th grade is the addition algorithm and the subtraction algorithm. They are very useful to me in solving problems that are hard, especially if they have a lot of digits. I used to get confused but with the algorithm I have no problem. At first it took me a while to learn it but then I learned the addition algorithm and then I learned the subtraction one to solve problems. This changed my thinking because before I usually stuck with the number line for solving addition and subtraction problems. With the algorithm it let's me solve it a little more easier. I'm still trying to work on the algorithm, especially the subtraction. I also sometimes don't get how other people solve it.
ReplyDeleteI have learned that if you have a big idea in reading you back it up with evidence. I know this because when I was reading Raymond and Graham I thought they only wanted to win the baseball championship but now as I dig deeper I know its not just about the minor league championship. This is important to me because if we only had theories where is the proof of what we are thinking in our mind?
ReplyDeleteI agree mateu because i always check my work.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I learned in class is how to use the algorithm. We learn the algorithm because it is a quicker way to solve audition and subtraction. We also learn how to write about different genres for example Personal narrative,Fantasy,Realistic fiction, and nonfiction. For reading we read a chapter of the book rules. We have to come up with two pieces of evidence but if you can't come up with two pieces of evidence you can try to use theory (big Idea).TbC
ReplyDeleteHey Taina, I saw a lot of kids talking about how they learned how they used it and i think you really got to the point of it
DeleteI learned in 4th grade to be inclusive as a class. When you be inclusive you treat people how they wanted to be treated. That makes you feel good about yourself and it makes that other person feel good. Also this is how you make new friends and get closer to other students and the teacher. When you do so it helps you pay attention in class and to start playing with other kids and to start getting to know them better
ReplyDeleteI never knew their were more then 2 groups of writing until wonderful fourth grade. I didn't know that their was a mystery group all by itself. I thought it was part of the non-fiction group. And also thought that realistic fiction was the same group as fantasy. now I understand the beauty of the styles of writing.
ReplyDeletehey Claire, I really like the way you described what inclusive means because it actually makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I learned in fourth grade is the algorithm.I learned how to round up and add the numbers to the right place value. It took me some time to figure out every part of the algorithm ,but today I finally completed my goal.If I did not learn the algorithm I wouldn't Improve in my math and I wouldn't get good grades I need for fifth grade. That's one thing I learned so far in fourth grade.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I learned this year is algorithm it stuck to me because I already knew algorithm but to understand it even more then I already,do it's just so helpful that it can just let me expand my brain and that's so worth it because who doesn't want to get smarter. So algorithm is a way to subtract and add ,so first you take the bigger number then put the smaller number under it ,then you subtract the smaller number from the bigger number then if you can't takeaway a bigger numbers you regroup and take how much you need and put it where it goes.
ReplyDeleteWhat I have learned in fourth grade is how to write numbers in expanded form. Any number can be expanded by saying the value of each place value number and adding them. For example the number 42,367 is equal to the sum of 40,000 + 2,000+300+60+7.
ReplyDeleteIf it’s just a number in the ones place value you do that number times one. For example the number 8 in expanded form is 8x1.
