I chose to write about the character beliefs system from the book RULES.
ReplyDeleteCatherine believes that a person with a disability like Jason can be like a person that doesn't have a disability and can have as much friends as a person without a disability.
My first piece of evidence is that Catherine made friends with Jason and made him more useful cards and colored them.
My second piece of evidence is when Catherine brought her Guinea Pigs with her to O.T and when Jason pet the Guinea Pigs his hands started to shake and Catherine acted like she didn't see.
My third piece of evidence is that they were telling each other things and they were using their imagination.
And that shows that Catherine believes that a person with a disability can be like a person without a disability and can have lots of friends.
Your character belief for Catherine made me think that this must be because of her kind heart and because David is her brother, and he has autism, so she must understand that that David is nice on the inside.
DeleteMy Big Idea for the book Rules,by Cynthia Lord is, Ryan is thinking about what is on the outside of David. Not what's on the inside. My first piece of evidence is when David wanted a piece of gum. And Ryan decided to pull a prank on David. So he gave David just the rapper. Not the gum. And that hurt David's feelings. And my second piece of evidence is when Ryan called David a "retard" on the bus. And it is very obvious that Ryan does not like or care about David. And David's feeling's.
ReplyDeleteI Am writing about the big idea. My big idea for the book RULES is : Jason's speech therapist think's Jason cant think for himself. My first piece of evidence is she is always asking his mom how his day been going not to Jason. My second piece of evidence is that she is always screaming to Jason not talking. When Jason can hear fine.
ReplyDeleteI think that Jason is really mad because if I were him,I would be really mad that someone would talk to my mom about me even if I was there with them.
DeleteI think the author's message is just because you have disabilities doesn't mean you can't be like other kids. My first piece of evidence is when it said David looks normal on the outside but on the inside he has autism. That show David LOOKS normal but he has a
ReplyDeletedisability. My second piece of evidence is Jason's therapist is always yelling but he can hear fine like other kids can. This shows people with autism can do normal things.
I think the author's message is just because your diffent on the inside dosen't mean you diffent on the outside and cathrine hates the word normal because david is not normal thats why she didn't want to tell kristi about ot
ReplyDeleteThe main problem in the story is Catherine does a lot of work for example making rules for David and making card for Jason I know this because in the text say's do you want to make you cards to Jason. Also sh has to take care of David.
ReplyDeleteThe main problem in the story is Catherine does a lot of work for example making rules for David and making card for Jason I know this because in the text say's do you want to make you cards to Jason. Also sh has to take care of David.
ReplyDeleteCatherine and Jason are starting to be best friends because in the text it says in OT they see the man is walking in the street then they draw the man walking. Catherine feels upset because she sees Jason and he reminds her about her brother David. Catherine is upset because David is harder to take care of and Jason is not hard because he has more people to help him.
ReplyDeleteI think the theme of this book is that you should never look at someone on the outside, only on the inside. Because when you do that you are making it harder for the person which isn't good in life. I think that Ryan only looks on the outside of people . My first piece of evidence is when Ryan was at the bus stop and invited everyone that was cool and popular inside his house when it was raining, but not Catherine or David. My second piece of evidence is when Ryan was only giving Kristy and Catherine gum but not David because David has autism but Kristy is all popular and cool and perfect and he only gave Catherine a piece of gum because Kristy was with him and he wants to make a good impression on Kristy. Catherine and Kristy are friends. This is why I think the theme is Ryan looks on the outside of people not the inside because he does not know Kristy on the inside. He just knows her popular cool, perfect side.
ReplyDeleteA big idea is Catherine cares a lot about Jason. My first reason is in the book it said a tiny tear came out when her mom showed her the carrots that Jason wanted to give her so she can give them to her guinea pigs. My second piece of evidence is when Jason's mom, Ms. Morehouse asked her how many blank cards she wanted so she could make into word cards for Jason, she said all of them, which was a whole stack.
ReplyDeleteMy Book talk topic is Character belief system . My theory is Ryan Deschaine is always bulling David because he beliefs David won't tell his mom or dad.My first piece of evidence is Ryan called David a retard and mom doesn't know . My other piece of evidence is after they got back from the Clinic Ryan was at Kristi's house and then Kristi and Ryan went to greet them and then Ryan gave everyone gum but David .Then Ryan gave him gum but it had nothing in it .
ReplyDeleteI don't think the speech therapist understands Jason. My first evidence is that she only talks to his mom she barely talks to him. And the only time she says anything to him she screams ''HI JASON!!!"It's not like he has a hearing disability just because he has two disabilities [paralysis and inability to speak] doesn't make him def! My second evidence is that she treats him like a baby he's about 14!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Dele because, if the speech women understood Jason she wouldn't always be screaming at him.
DeleteMy theory is that Jason is standing up for himself for the first time because in the book it said that Jason pointed to the words SPEECH. WOMAN. YELL. ALL. THE. TIME. I. CAN'T. SPEAK. BUT. I. CAN. HEAR. FINE. My second piece of evidence is that Jason pointed to the words SPEECH. WOMAN. STINKS A BIG ONE!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing a character motivation and Jason stood up for himself because,Catherine was telling him that that you should tell the speech women your feelings. The speech women thinks she's knows Jason but she really doesn't.
ReplyDeleteThe author's message in the book Rules is, communication.I know this because almost every character has communication problems.Catherine meet this boy named Jason at OT,and Jason can't speak he uses a communication book.Since Jason can't speak and Catherine and Jason are really good friends Catherine made communication cards for him to help him communicate.
ReplyDeleteCatherine's motivation in the book Rules is that she really cares for people with difficulties. My evidence is when ever Catherine goes to OT she always brings something for Jason or she brings something for Jason to look at. Catherine always is making rules for David because he has autism and it is hard for him to understand certain things.
ReplyDeleteOne of the main problems in this story rules is David feels betrayed. One example of this theory is when Ryan D. fooled David with the gum,David was literary was crying on Catherine.Another example is David loves gum and David thought Ryan was his friend.
ReplyDeleteOne of the patterns in the book, Rules is Catherine always makes Jason word cards to help him to communicate.
ReplyDeleteWhen Catherine brought Nutmeg, her guinea pig, to David’s occupational therapy session, she reviewed the cards she had already made for Jason. Then she thought that Jason would not like those word cards. So she tried to make some new cards of words quickly instead the ones she had already made before Jason shows up.
my big idea is that Catherine and Jason are becoming really good friends. my first piece of evidence is that every time Catherine goes to the clinic she brings Jason some of the cards she made. my second piece of evidence is that every time they are at the clinic they talk until Jason's speech therapist yells and says "HI JASON!"
ReplyDeleteMy theory is that Cathrine is torn between being Jason's or Kristi's friend because it was actually time to go to David's OT but Kristi invited her over to her house. So Jason couldn't see Cathrine and Cathrine was a little sad. Another piece of evidence is that Cathrine kept thinking about Jason and how she could help him and connect with him more like being his friend. And Cathrine also kept thinking about Kristi as a friend like they would use Morse code to communicate secretly or go swimming in a pond together.
ReplyDeleteMy book talk topic was patterns. I noticed that when Jason is around Catherine, he feels like he has an actual friend but when he's around the speech therapist, he feels disrespected. My evidence is ,when Nutmeg pooped on the word VAN, Catherine, said 'Nutmeg, what type of hello is is that!?" and Jason said pointed at Gross.Hello. and Catherine said"you can say that again " and he did. My second piece of evidence is Jason pointed at I.Can't.Talk.But.I.Hear.Fine.There is my Topic and my evidence.:)

ReplyDeleteMy big idea is that jason and cathrine are becoming really good friends
ReplyDeletemy first piece of evidence is that cathrine wanted to make more cards for jason on page 78.
My second evidence is that cathrine asked jasons mom to make more cards on page 84 for jason because she cares about jason and because she is going though the same thing with davied so she knows what it is like.
The author's message in Rules is just because a person has a physical disability does not mean they can't fit in. For example, Jason became friends with Catherine after she gave him a picture that she drew. Jason felt very special because when his mom saw Catherine, she told her that and said “Jason liked your picture so much, that he asked me to hang it on his wall.”
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that Jason started to feel to feel comfortable around Catherine. He told Catherine about his counselor. He told her that he thinks that his counselor stinks a big one. Jason felt like he can talk to her.
My Big Idea about "Rules" is that Catherine and Jason are becoming really good friends.
ReplyDeleteI know this because in the text first Catherine makes more cards for Jason and one of them is a guinea pig. Then, Jason brings carrots for her guinea pigs. A few days later, Catherine brings one guinea pig ,Nutmeg, to Occupational Therapy for Jason to look at and pet it. This all means they care for each other and they are friends.
