My big idea is that Cathrine is very ,very worried about her image.She would not be making these rules if she didn't care about her image becuse if she didn't make rules David would be acting out.Then her image would be ruined.Also she didn't want to dance infront of everybody.Also she was mad and very embarased when Ryan Descaine mimiked David.

And i agree with you because like what you said Catherine makes the rules for David so he could learn how the world works and not to yell and run around in the video store and check the blurb on something that someone is about to buy which he did do before.

DeleteI chose to write about the big idea. (Theory). Kristi isn't really a nice person, and Kristi doesn't really except that Catherine has a brother (David) that has problems. (I said problems because Kristi doesn't know that David has autism yet). My first piece of evidence for Kristi not excepting the fact that David has problems is when Kristi said "lets go to my house to watch TV" right when David shrieks. My second piece of evidence is when Kristi asked Catherine "Is he OK" in a kind of mean tone. My third piece of evidence is when Kristi said "You know REGULAR brothers are a pain too" and that really hurt Catherine's feelings.
ReplyDeleteYour theory made me think that Kristi and Catherine will not be a good match because Catherine doesn't like Ryan Descaine while Kristi does like him,but she doesn't know the truth about him. Also Catherine says Kristi doesn't look like the kind of kid who would like to play morse code during the night.
DeleteHey Nasma, I was thinking the same thing about she not wanting David around, right after he shrieks. I would like to add on. I think that Ryan d. told Kristi that David had autism and that's why she wanted to leave instad of accepting the fact he can't help himself and including him in their fun. Good ponit to bring up,Nasma. :)

DeleteThe big idea I chosen is Catherine is desperate for a friend. My first piece of evidence is she said she doesn't get invited parties any more because David has to come to pick her up and does really embarrassing things like when he ran through her friend Melissa's trailer opening up cabinets and doors looking for the cellar while his mom and Melissa's mom kept saying that it was a trailer and there was no cellar. My second piece of evidence is she was really excited for the new neighbor to come.

DeleteI noticed a symbol and a pattern is that every chapter name is a rule. I think it symbolizes the meaning of every chapter,for example "If you can only choose one,choose carefully",Catherine is torn between seeing Jason or Kristi. Putting a rule for every chapter also represents David has autism and Catherine keeps making David rules.

DeleteThe first message Kristi went to Catherine’s house then they talk and Catherine was happy to make a friend then Kristi saw David put a cowboy in the fish tank. the real message is Kristi is mean to David because she think that he is worried.
ReplyDeleteMy topic was Big idea and my big idea is, Catherine is guilty.My first piece of evidence is she looks in the car and sees David in the car hunched down alone in the back seat.My second piece of evidence is she didn't know whether to stay with Kristi or to go to to OT.Also she did promise Jason that she would see him today.

DeleteCatherine is really happy that she COULD go to Kristi's house, but she said she would go to OT and see Jason and she feels bad about letting her mom down for not taking responsibility of david. For example it said, " I walk over to Kristi's house. I see my car driving away. I wave and mom waves back. But David is covering his ears and yelling. I feel bad that I let down my mom for not taking care of David." And then it also said " ' want to come to my house? said Kristi. I really would like to, but I said I would see Jason today at OT."

DeleteMy big idea is Catherine is kind of annoyed with Kristi. I know this because it said in the text Catherines stomach churned when Kirsit said “Wow even regular borthers are a pain”. Another piece of evidence is when Kristi asks if Catherine likes Ryan DeShane. Catherine said “want some sherbert” instead of answering.

DeleteMy big idea is that Catherine want's Kristi to be Catherine friend but Catherine feels torn because David is a big part of Catherine as well. My first evidence is that when Catherine sees David going to OT and David is covering his ears because David hears everything extra loud.

DeleteThe main problem is that Jason needs communication cards. That's a problem because someone has to keep making card's and if he want's to say something and he doesn't have the cards he can't say it. i know this because he doesn't have a lot of cards but Catherine is making some. Also she can't make all of them because she doesn't now what cards he need's. And it's hard making cards

When Kristi goes over she says'' regular brothers are a pain but your brother is really a pain.'' but with Jason it's not. Another example of this problem is Catherine promised Jason that she would be at OT but she broke her promise by hanging out kristi's house.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Ben, because she is torn. She really wants Kristi to be her next door neighbor and best friend, but she also made a promise to Jason about the clinic.
DeleteMy theory is Kristi does not want to be friends with Catherine, because when they were on the bus RD was calling David names but Kristi will be there so it should be different. I think she only has one friend and that's why she needs someone like Jason to be her friend. I think she really cares about her image because she wants David to grow up or wake up and be a normal brother. But because he is autistic, she has to make rules so he looks like a normal brother enough for people not to know he has a problem.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you Zion, Catherine is not loyal. She did promise to Jason that she would be at OT, but she wasn't. Also, it is a real struggle for David to be in the car alone and Catherine helps him out. When she wasn't in the car, it was hard for David.
DeleteI think that Kristi is kind of rejecting David. One evidence is when Catherine said "go find mom" and Kristi said "wow, that must be hard. Even normal brothers are a pain". My second evidence is when David shrieked, Kristie said "wanna go to my house?". Both of these show that Kristie doesn't think David is normal. When David shrieked it also showed that she was getting a little annoyed with him and that is why she said they should go to her house.

DeleteI think the authors message is that just because your different doesn't mean that you aren't like anyone else.For example when Jason wanted the guitar it could help his hands,and other kids play guitar also,so guitar will make himself feel better because he can't use his hands.

DeleteI think that the authors message is that everybody should be included and no one should be excluded just because they are disabled because Kristi and Ryan don't accept David because Kristi said if they wanted to go to her house right after David shrieked but and also because Kristi kept shooting worried glances at David like he was dangerous.And Ryan disrespects David because on the bus Ryan calls David a retard.Ryan also disrespects David because he embarrasses David to be popular and also ruins Cathrine image which shes very worreid about.

I also know this because in the text it said that it stung when she said "sure" to Kristi and she knew that she was braking her promise to Jason.

ReplyDeleteThe main problem in the story is that Catherine wants a normal family especially her brother David. I know that because in the text it said "Every night Catherine says she wants to wake up to a normal family." Her family is always babying him because he has Autism.
ReplyDeleteOne of the author's messages in the "Rules" is that you never should think about what's on the outside of a person, but about what's on the inside. For example, in the book it said when David shrieked, Kristi said "let's go to my house to watch TV." And she was thinking about David's shrieking, not David on the inside. And second, in the book, the first word Kristi said to Catherine was "is he okay?". And she never said something like "do you want to come over to my house. I want to get to know you."
