I think that Wilbert's feelings changed from thinking that the car was great to thinking it wasn't such a good idea buying it. I think he changed how he felt because of the police, they thought that he stole it | and that there is no way that a black man could be behind the wheel of a gold cadillac. I also think that he changed how he felt because of the way the police were treating him, hating, and lying on him.
ReplyDeleteWilberts feelings aboout the cadillac change from the beginning to the end from pride to dislike.I know this because he sold the cadillac.I also know this because he did not mind driving a old Ford. His feelings changed because the cadillac caused trouble in the family.I know this because the police pulled Wilberts car over because they thought Wilbert stole the car.I also know this because he had to abandon the car.
ReplyDeleteWilbert's feelings change from proud to unhappy because the Cadillac kept causing trouble. I know this because Lois's father kept smiling when he brought the car home. Also, he kept taking it for a ride and visited relatives in the Cadillac. I also know this because the police man had to take him out of the car and assumed he stole it and also Wilbert got rid of the car.
ReplyDeleteWilbert's feelings change from prideful and stubborn to being his authentic self. I know this because at the very start of the story this car was a big thing of mass acceptance but in that sort of phase you lose a part of your authentic self this way.My second piece of evidence is once he sold it Wilbert realizes that you don't need material
ReplyDeletethings to make happy. I know this because Wilbert was so fixated on the car that he didn't pay much attention to what his family needed
The father was proud of the gold Cadillac at the the beginning of the book, but he realized his mistakes inthe end. I know he was proud of the Cadillac because he drove the car all around the city, and drove all the way down to the rural south. Also,he would not give up trying to to get his wife to like the the Cadillac for a while. He even took her out on a date! But the date was mostly for saying sorry. I know the father realized his mistake because he sold the gold Cadillac, even though his wife said he could keep it. That was very nice of him because he really was proud of the Cadillac, and it was a symbol of freedom.
ReplyDeleteWilbert's feeling changed from proud to dislike because the car was getting the whole family in trouble. I know this because wilbert was so happy that he drove the Cadillac to Mississippi even though he knew it was going to be difficult for a colored person. Along the way Wilbert was getting into though spots. Later in the text he got pulled over by a police officer and had to go to Court. Then after he got back from his trip he sold the car and started driving an old ford and he abandoned it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Farrah because the Cadillac did get Wilbert and his family into a lot of trouble. Then Wilbert abandoned his car because he thought it wasn't worth it, having a car that torn his family apart.
DeleteWilbert's feelings about the Cadillac change from the beginning of "THE GOLD CADILLAC" to the end of "THE GOLD CADILLAC" from being super proud of the Cadillac to not being so proud of the Cadillac anymore but disliking it. I know that Wilbert was proud of his Gold Cadillac because in the text it says: I have to admit I did buy this car. I just couldn't resist it. And who ever buys that old Mercury of ours got themselves a good car, but we've got ourselves a better one. This shows that Wilbert is proud of the Cadillac because he said who ever buys the Mercury got themselves a good car but they got themselves a better one even thought the Mercury wasn't even a year old. I also know that Wilbert was proud of the Cadillac because nothing stopped him, not even his wife stopped him from giving everybody a ride in the car to show tem how nice the Cadillac is and how much better it is than their old Mercury. This shows that Wilbert shows pride for the Cadillac. At the end he didn't show so much pride for the car as he did from the beginning of the book. I know this because the Cadillac got him and his family into trouble. In the text it says: “Look here, Wilbert,” said one of my uncles, “it’s too
ReplyDeletedangerous. It’s like putting a loaded gun to your head.” also it says: “Whose car is this, boy?” they asked.
I saw anger in my father’s eyes. “It’s mine,” he said.
“You’re a liar,” said one of the policemen. “You stole this car.”
“Turn around, put your hands on top of that car, and
spread-eagle,” said the other policeman. This shows that the Gold Cadillac causes danger for Wilbert and his family because they are colored people and there going to a segregated area. So if course the police are going to think he stole the car. I also know this because in the text it says: “Go to sleep, baby,” said my mother. “Go to sleep.” A
But I was afraid to sleep until my father woke. I had to help
my mother keep watch. I figured I had to help protect us too,
in case the police came back and tried to take my father away
again. There was a long, sharp knife in the picnic basket, and I
took hold of it, clutching it tightly in my hand. Ready to strike. This shows that she was frightened to stay in that car because it causes danger.
Oops I also meant to say that... Also Wilbert abandon his car, "We’ll leave the Cadillac and get his car. Driving
Deletethis car any farther south with you and the girls in the car, it’s just
not worth the risk.” This shows tat he doesn't feel the same way about the GOLD CADILLAC. Lastly in the text it says: “Daddy, where’s our new Cadillac?” I demanded to know.
So did Wilma.
He smiled and put his hand on my head. “Sold it,” he said as
my mother came into the room.
“But how come?” I asked. “We poor now?” “No, sugar. We’ve got more money towards our new house
now, and we’re all together. I figure that makes us about the
richest folks in the world.” He smiled at my mother, and she
smiled too and came into his arms. This shows that he sold his car to make it more safe for him and his family.
Wilbert's feelings change for pride towards the cadillac to reilizing wasn't worth it. I Know this because evidence shows he was showing pride for the car he had the courage to drive it to Mississippi. I also know this because he sold it and told his family because the ford brought them together as family but the cadillac tore them apart. he liked being a family not being torn apart by a car!
ReplyDeleteI agree a lot with you Claire
DeleteI don't think we read that part, yet.
DeleteClaire, you had very good words to explain that.
DeleteThe father's feelings change from proud to worried. In the beginning, the father was driving around and showing off his car. Everybody liked the new Cadillac(except for the mother), and so did he. He even went down to Mississippi claiming the car was his and he could drive it wherever he wanted to. Then his feelings changed about the car when he went to Mississippi. The police pulled him over and searched him and called him a liar and that Wilbert stole the car.
ReplyDeleteThey took him somewhere and made him talk with a judge and they even made him pay for a speed ticket even though he was going slow. Then they followed him out of town. This shows that Wilbert was proud to have an expensive car,but then he was worried that the car could bring his family to danger.
Wilbert's feelings change because at the beginning he was proud of having a Cadillac. I know this because he shows it off to everybody in the neighborhood and his family even when his wife doesn't approve it.
ReplyDeleteBut at the end he feels sad that he put his family in danger and he was in prison for three hours just because of his stubbornness thinking that he could do what ever he wanted. I know this because he sold the car, took the money and put it in for a house , and went back to drive an old car.
I think the author's message is that it doesn't matter about how fancy the car is, or how fancy anything is, if it tears you and your family and the ones you love apart, you shouldn't keep it. My evidence for this thinking is that the Gold Cadillac almost got Wilbert arrested and got the family in trouble with the law. This would have torn the family apart and they wouldn't have seen their father again for a while. My second piece of evidence is that the mother didn't like the Cadillac and she refused to ride in it. This tore the family apart and only the sister, the father and the main character rode the Cadillac. Wilbert also says "As fine as the Cadillac had been, it pulled us apart for a while". This supports my theory that it doesn't matter how fancy your belongings are; if it tears you apart from your family you shouldn't keep it.
ReplyDeleteI think the author's message is to not let the things you like make you not choose smart choices and I also think that Wibert's feelings changed about the Cadillac from feeling proud about it but then he felt bad about it by the end of the story. I think the author's messages is to not let the things you like make you not choose smart choices because Wilbert decided he was going to go to Mississippi during a very racist time in the world with a very fancy car but then he was pulled over and was given a ticket. I also think that Wilbert's feelings about the car went from feeling proud to feeling bad about it because after he was pulled over he went back to Memphis to use cousin Halton's car which wasn't fancy. Then after coming back from Wilma's grandparent's farm Wilbert put the car in the garage and never used it since.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of the story Wilbert got gold Cadillac and his wife wasn't happy about that because the other car they had wasn't even a year old.So then Wilbert said he was going to drive the Cadillac south and they all came and the police came lied about him.
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning the dad likes the Cadillac because it was nice. And it's a symbol of freedom to show that a black man from the north can buy a car like that. Then he wants to drive the mom in the caddilac but she refuses so they walk separate and usually they walk together and have fun but because of the caddilac. The they get pulled over and stuff and that all because of the caddilac then when the caddilac was left and they took the uncles car everything went smooth. And then the dad thought that the family is more important than being famous in the neighborhood and having a nice car
ReplyDeleteThe Father's feelings from the beginning to the end of the book changed from happy to doubting his new car. The reason he doubted the Gold Cadillac is because it put his family in a lot of danger. For example, in Mississippi, Wilbur gets pulled over by the police and is taken to jail. Also, when Wilbert was leaving a town in Mississippi police followed him until he left town. The last thing, Wilbur ends up selling his car at the end of the story for a smaller, cheaper car.
ReplyDeleteI think Wilbert's feelings about the gold Cadillac changed from the beginning to the end because after when Wilbert got tired, he put the car in a bunch of trees and went to sleep and when he woke, he went back to Memphis to get their cousins car and left the Cadillac there. Also, when Wilbert was polishing the gold Cadillac the mother came out and said "keep the car" Wilbert sold the car so they have money to buy a new house and instead of ridding in the Cadillac, they rode in a four year old car. The fathers feelings changed because right after the police came to the Cadillac after he got out of the police station he started to change right after the police car stopped following the Cadillac he went back to Memphis to get their cousins car.
ReplyDeleteI think the author's message is family comes first. Because in the end of the story Wilbert sold their car because it was tearing his family apart and then he knew family always comes first.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of the story Wilbert REALLY loved the gold Cadillac and wanted all of his family to love it. And it was hard because his wife did not really like the car when everyone else did. In the end Wilbert found out that FAMILY COMES FIRST. He knew Lois was scared in the car of the police and it was because of the gold Cadillac. The mom never wanted to ride in the car because she knew about police and bad things.
THE GOLD CADILLAC
ReplyDeleteSo, at first the father liked the gold cadillac, he felt proud that he could afford it and show that a black man can buy such a beautiful expansive car but when they went to Mississippi they said it was traffic so they were trying to keep a low profile. They wasn't driving that fast and the cop pulled him over and said he was speeding. The cop also called him a liar about the gold Cadillac being his. the cop said he was a liar because he didn't think that a black man could afford and own such a nice car like that. The father started to think maybe that car is to flashy and it wasn't such a good idea to have it. It was causing too much problems for him and his family.
Wilbert’s feelings in the beginning to the end changes by experience of what type of trouble it would cause. At first, Wilbert was proud of the car and wanted to live with it but after the experience with the price, he decided the Cadillac was too much trouble and it would put his daughters and wife in danger. I know this because when the mom insisted to go on the trip with his daughter, he looked shocked and tried to argue. Also after they came back from the trip, he immediately sold the car. Lastly in the end of the book, it said,” we and the family knew the truth. As fine as the Cadillac had been,” he said, “ it had pulled us apart for a while”
ReplyDeleteThe authors message is that when a black person has a gold car that is expensive it can be dangerous. I know this because when Wilbert was driving the gold Cadillac he got caught by the police. So the police told him to get out of the car and put his hands on it. So he did. The cops told Wibert that he was a liar because he stole the car. They gave him a ticket and so he had to pay for it. The cops brought the father to the judge and the judge found out that the Cadillac did belong to him. So they let him go. But the cops followed them , and turned after a while. After the police stopped him he noticed that the Cadillac brought the family in danger. He said ''it had pulled us apart for a while. So he sold the Cadillac.
