In Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK once said:

"As you press on for justice, be sure to move with dignity and discipline, using only the weapon of love. Let no man pull you so low as to hate him. Always avoid violence.”

What do these words mean to you? Explain your thinking.

  1. These words mean to me that you should not fight someone but instead go and talk to them and treat them with love. That's what MLK wanted.

  3. I think these words mean you can never fix a problem with violence. And when you move on with something or to something you should move on by being brave and showing kindness and love. I also think these means you should never let anyone do something so mean or bad to let you hate them. And that's what MLK also wanted!!!

  4. To me this means, to keep going. Keep marching for your freedom. Don't let anyone change you from your goals. Don't hate people even if they are mean to you.

  6. To me these words mean that when you fight for freedom, to have pride. And that the most important thing to use is love. Let no man treat or insult you enough that you want to hit and hurt them. Don't let anybody take away your freedom because violence does not solve your problems.

  8. These words to me mean that no matter what any one does to you or say to you, we should never hate because hatred and violence are never the answer. Always believe in yourself, even if you are tempted. MLK was a man of peace and he believed that violence was never the answer.

  14. These words mean justice will come if you believe in it. Violence will never help. Never feel ashamed because you are helping the world. Never give up. Try your hardest to stop segregation. Keep loving each other no matter what happens.

  15. The words: ''As you press on for justice, be sure to move with dignity and discipline, using only the weapon of love. Let no man pull you so low as to hate him. Always avoid violence.'' Mean if someone insults you in any way, do not use violence or hatred to fight back.

  17. You should never give up you're rights because our ancestor fought hard for them. Our freedom in America, is something that we need to protect. We should do everything that can to change America for the better. I hope that freedom is something that happens in all of the countries all over the world. My number one goal when I grow up is to help Egypt get their freedom. That's what I think of when I hear MLK speech.

  18. To me these words mean you stand up to problems not using any violence. The weapon you use is love and you can still fix it. Because love is the strongest weapon you can have.

I think it is what it means because in his words it says " always avoid violence" and " using only the weapon of love" .

Last he says "press on for justice" which means keep trying to get your way with no violence.

  20. The words that MLK wrote mean to me that do never use violence to fix something, only use the power of love and don't give up on your dreams. Don't let anybody make you feel useless.

  21. I think that this means that people should be treated fairly and have justice without using violence and there should be no hate.

  22. Dignity means worthy, but in my words it means trust or believe. Discipline means self control, but in my word it means push hard or control yourself.

  23. These words mean be kind, have freedom, be brave and strong. Have love and pride, don't let people boss you around. Stand up and say "You can't boss me around. I have my rights to be free!" That's what they mean to me.

  24. What this means to me is to never give up and to make sure no one tells me what's wrong from what's right. Always fight (not violence!) for my rights. Always love your enemies and love everyone and never ever hate or use violence. Always be fair and don't treat people differently.

  25. I think these words mean that as you try to do the right thing you should always stay focused. Use your kindness to persuade others. Don't let anyone distract you and do not fight because it is the wrong thing to do.

  26. To me I think that you should move on in life and always be loving to anybody in your family and your friends. You should also avoid violence. Never avoid your problems. You should always face your problems.

  27. To me this means peace and to respect one another. To me it means nonviolence. To get something you want you need to be patient and not to kill or hurt one another. You need to work together and be patient and then you will eventually get what you need or want.

  28. I think using the weapon of love means don't do harm. Just try to work things out. To press on to justice means you keep working harder and harder each day and never give up. To move with dignity and discipline means be strong and carry it with you and do things well. Let no man pull you so low as to hate him means don't let a man make you do something you don't want to do. Don't hate him he might have reasons. Always avoid violence it means if someone wants you to fight walk away.
