Reading, Writing and Math Goals

What are your goals for reading, writing and math?
What steps will you take to achieve your goals?

Think about the academic work we have completed this recording period. In math, we have been working on multiplication/division and fractions. In writing, we have been working on literary essays and feature articles. In reading we have been using strategies to increase our comprehension, share our thinking in book talk discussions and finding evidence to support our thinking.

Choose one goal to work on in each area. For example, in reading I will increase my stamina to read longer and use my reading journal to capture my thinking.

  6. My goals for writing is to stay focused, don't space out and take as much advice as I can get from it. My steps to achieve that is I will listen more, proofread . Also i would do more independent writing at home or free writing. My goal for math is to get things done quicker, don't rush it so I don't get a low grade and don't goof up on any tests, or quizzes. My steps to achieving that will be go a bit slower, and try to catch my mistakes. Always look over it to make sure i didn't skip anything. My goal for reading is to get on a higher level, finish books quicker, and read more. My steps to achieving that will be , read a lot more, try and speed up my reading and not just sit there reading slowly, also try a lot harder in my reading to improve and expand my vocabulary.

  7. in math what i need to work on is checking my work because after I do my work sometimes I don't check it and I miss a problem or get something wrong. In writing I need to work on punctuation and capitalization. In reading I need to work on opening up to new genres because sometimes I get stuck on one kind of genre and stick to it.

  8. So I think a way for me to read better is to have books with some pictures on every 3 or 4 pages. also someone who is trying to talk to me while I read, I sometimes get distracted but the headphones are working. In writing, I think I am getting better at finishing peaces most of the time. In math, I never knew you could use division to bring from a fraction into a mixed number.

So I think a way for me to read better is to have books with some pictures on every 3 or 4 pages. also someone who is trying to talk to me while I read, I sometimes get distracted but the headphones are working. I think having a book with pictures like diary of a wimpy kid puts less stress on my brain. In writing, I think I am getting better at finishing peaces most of the time. I am finishing all my writing peaces because ms.s taught me about the writing stages. In math, I never knew you could use division to bring from a fraction into a mixed number. I feel this strong in math because I was so interested in how these people think of long division and area model. That is rare for someone to think of a strategy and it working.

How I would like to get better at math is to get better at fractions. I would like to do better by practicing and focusing better. How I would like to get better at reading is to go to Level T. How I can do that is follow with my finger while I'm reading and when we do read aloud I'll follow along. How I would like to get better at writing is to get better at spelling. I can use a dictionary and write for homework.

My goals for reading are getting to a higher level, reading faster, read more diverse books and digging deeper into character’s problems and personalities. Steps I will take are reading more, find more evidence and take each word in piece by piece. My goals for writing are make a new and updated writing territory. I will make more diverse entries and make my handwriting neater. Steps I will take are write more slowly, make more diverse entries I’m going to try to write comic strips, graphic novels, humor and more. Also, find a place in my writer’s notebook, so I can write my new and updated writing territory. My goals for math are learning how to divide with double digit denominators and learn how to do decimals. Steps I will take are pay more attention while morning math, copy more in my math journal and answer more say it aloud questions.

  14. In reading I need to stay focus for a longer period of time without getting distracted and staring into space. The headphones help me when I use it.

In writing I need to come up with multiple pieces of evidence for my thinking. I should look back in the text to find evidence for my thinking.

In math I need to stop sitting there acting like its the end of the world when I can't understand a fraction or an equation. I can go over the problem and study it some more.

My goal for reading is when I read a book by myself I need to understand it, even if it means i have to read it twice.

My goal for math is to take my time and understand what the steps are to the problem and not rush my work.

    :)
