A theme is Owen's mood is changing throughout the book.One example is in the beginning of the book Owen was fine when Skyla didn't buy Owen a present. Another example is Owen kept naming the bad thing is on the way to Oaxaca. My last example is on the way to Oaxaca Owen kept asking when they would get to Oaxaca.
ReplyDeleteA theme in the story is Skyla is always drinking. She drinks all the time!!!!!! Not I repeat not good! Three examples for that are Skyla was drinking twice at the childrens hospital in the bathroom and tried to cover it up with her gardenia perfume. The second example is Skyla was drinking when she was in gram's trailer at night. And the third example is Skyla had a big pack of beer in her back seat of her mustang. I wish Skyla could stop drinking and get on with her life.: ( I hate it when people drink alot. Its sad because they can die from drinking like when drunk people are driving? Not good. I hope Skyla stops soon.

ReplyDeleteIn becoming Naomi Leon one theme is loving. Example: when Skyla left her kids for seven years gram stepped up to the plate and took care of them. Another example is gram lets Owen put tape on his shirt even though it look funny she allows him to do it because she loves him and knows it makes him feel good. My final example is when gram got Naomi and Owen they had very little clothes and gram made them clothes for them to go to school.

DeleteIn becoming Naomi Leon the theme is melicous for example skyla snuck beer in the back of the car.Another example is skyla asked Naomi where the nearest bathroom was at the children hostpital.After 20 mins skyla came back and Naomi smelled grams rum cake and skyla was wearing more perfume and skyla was drinking at a children hostpital.My last and final example is at thanks giving dinner Naomi found a beer on skyla's chair.
ReplyDeleteOne theme-big idea in this story becoming naomi Leon is that Skyla is drunk.One example is that in skylas past she was in warehouses because she was drinking and still is!Another example is that Skyla slapped naomi because she was drunk,and she was about to slap her a 2 time but Owen stopped her. Skyla had a pack of beer in the back seat,which was pretty clear that she was drinking and drunk she also woke up in the morning smelling like she just puked!!!

ReplyDeleteA theme in Becoming Naomi Leon is alcoholism. For example, Skyla was at the children's hospital with Naomi and Owen and asked where the closest bathroom was. When she came out over 20 minutes later, she smelled like rum. This is an example of alcoholism because people in our world can't help but drink alcohol (they could possibly be addicted). Another example is that Skyla saw when Naomi came over to say thanks to Clive, she was looking at the beer in the back of the car. Skyla said "that's my business Naomi, if you know what's good you'll keep your mouth shut". This is another example of alcoholism because people who drink don't usually expose themselves to the world so they're not caught. My last example is that Naomi found out at school when she was getting her bag, she over heard that Skyla had been in and out of Rehabs and halfway houses several times because she drank.This is an example of alcoholism because when people drink too much, they go to rehabs and halfway houses.
ReplyDeleteOne theme in Becoming Naomi Leon is achohol abuse.For example Skyla took Owen and Naomi to the childrens to get Owens checkup and Skyla went to the bathroom and drank rum thendrove them home when she was drunk! Another example of achohol abuse is when Skyla and Clive were leaving from the thanksgiving dinner Naomi saw a full pack of beer in the backset of their car and Skyla said to shut her mouth and not tell anyone about the full pack of beer.My third example of achohol abuse is one morning skyla woke up and smelled like throw up because she was drinking to mch the night before.My very last example of achohol abuse is when Naomi went to get her backpack in the school she overheard msMorimoto and ms.Dominguez talking and they said Skyla had been in and out of rehab and halfway houses and they were worried for Naomi and Owen because Skyla could hurt them.Those are all my examples for the theme acohol abuse.

Another example:is when Skyla said Owen was deformed in the hospital
My last example:is when Skyla threatened to call the cop's if Gram doesn't give her Naomi and Owen because (Gram had no legal right to them.)
One theme in "Becoming Naomi Leon" is alcohol drinking. For example, Naomi saw Skyla in the car and beer in the back seat. Another example of alcohol drinking as a theme in "Becoming Naomi Leon" is at the children's hospital, Naomi smelled rum on Skyla and she took a run to the bathroom and was angry after that. My final reason alcohol drinking is a theme in becoming Naomi Leon is that at the beginning of the book Naomi smelled sour milk on Skyla and she was extra mad so that meant she was barfing and drinking the other night. Those are my three reasons why drinking is a theme in "Becoming Naomi Leon".

My second example is that she drinks alcohol and she drives when she is drunk. My third example is that she threatened to kill Gram.
ReplyDeleteone theme in becoming Naomi León that i noticed is that there is a lot of abuse for these reasons:1 Skyla slapped Naomi across the face and dug her fingernails into Naomi's arm.2 Sklya kept drinking because she said she had to go to the bathroom but was drinking because she smelled like grams rum cake and tried to keep it away with her perfume. Skyla kept forcing Naomi to pack her bags and go to LA.
ReplyDeleteOne theme from Becoming Naomi Leon by Pam Munoz Ryan is bullying. One example of bullying is in the beginning of the book the 5th grade boys said "did you Rob any banks Outlaw".
ReplyDeleteAnother example is on the day of the Parent Teacher Conferences a 5th grade boy pulls the tape off of Owens shirt and threw it on the ground.
My last reason is towards the end of the book when Skyla, Owen, and Naomi arrive from the Children's Hospital. Skyla threatened to throw the bike away if Owen didn't stop putting tape on his shirt.
In conclusion these three reasons of bullying I spotted in the story:Becoming Naomi Leon.
A reoccurring theme in becoming Naomi Leon is having a lot of arguments. An example of this is when Skyla came to the trailer she arguing was with Gram. The second argument I can remember was when Skyla said to Naomi I'm taking you to Vegas. Gram told her no then Skyla started to make a big deal about things and then they started arguing with her. Skyla has a lot of issues she is an alcoholic that goes to a halfway house for help. Another theme is that Naomi, Owen and Gram try to always be positive. They always look at the bright side of life. Even when Skyla slapped Naomi they stayed positive when trying to protecting her.
ReplyDeleteA theme I noticed is that drinking too much alcohol can cause many problems.One example is when Skyla was leaving with Clive.She called Naomi to say "thank you" to Clive,and when Naomi looked in the back seat it was filled with a big pack of beer.She told Naomi to not tell anyone about the beer.Another reason is when Skyla took Naomi and Owen to the children's hospital. Skyla said she would go to the bathroom,but in the bathroom she drank beer.When she came out she smelled like perfume,she went in the bathroom twice and also took her mood medicine.My third reason is when Skyla woke up in the morning she smelled horrible like throw up.Naomi already new that Skyla was drinking last night.This shows that you should not drink too much alcohol.
ReplyDeleteIn Becoming Naomi Leon, one of the big things that I noticed is child abuse. My first reason that there is child abuse in Becoming Naomi Leon is that Naomi's mother Skyla left Owen and Naomi with Gram when Naomi was five, and Skyla told Gram that she wasn't ready for children. My second reason is that after Clive and Owen were done playing chess, Skyla called Own crumpled just because Owen had a few disabilities. My third reason is that when Skyla was making Naomi move with her and Clive to meet Clive's daughter, Skyla dug her nails into Naomi's skin and slapped her. For those three reasons, there is child abuse in Becoming Naomi Leon.
ReplyDeleteI noticed one theme from Becoming Naomi Leon. It is child abuse. I know this is a theme because it is a repeating pattern in the book. Another theme is poverty. Naomi and her family live in a trailer and they have to make clothes.
ReplyDeleteI think that Gram is exhausted. I know that she is tired because in the text it says she is tired of looking for Naomi's father. She is tired of finding ways to protect Naomi. Gram got frustrated when Skyla said that she had a right to take Naomi.
ReplyDeleteOne theme I noticed in Becoming Naomi Leon is bullying because of these three reasons. My first reason is Skyla bullies everyone. For example, she slapped Naomi and left a hand print. She ripped off Owen's tape and makes people scared of her. Skyla tried to take Gram to court and Naomi to Las Vegas. Another example of bullying as a theme in Becoming Naomi Leon is Naomi gets bullied at school because of her clothes sewn by Gram and her last name Outlaw. Naomi gets embarrassed because of who she is. Owen gets bullied too because he doesn't look right and never will. Kids bully him at school and rip off his tape. My third reason is Skyla bullied Santiago. When he came back to the church after being stranded in the boat Naomi and Owen were gone and forbid contact between them.
ReplyDeleteOne theme I found is abuse. One example is that when Skyla told Naomi to pack up for Las Vegas, Naomi refused, but then Skyla slapped her and threatened to do it again. Another example is that Skyla took Owen's tape off and threatened to throw his brand new bike in the trash. Skyla also said something could happen again to Gram because of how old she is. She didn't let Naomi call Gram after she promised when they got back from the children's hospital.
ReplyDeleteThe theme that I choose from this book is abandonment. The author shows this theme in the text by writing the mother left the kids to babysit themselves in a Mexican motel while she went on a shopping trip. Meanwhile, the father is in Mexico saying, "Where in the world are my kids?" The 3 things that I am going to use to support my thinking are Skyla abandoned her kids. For example, while Santiago was checking on his boat outside in the storm, Skyla was getting the kids ready to take them to the Mexican motel. Another example is when Skyla got to the Mexican motel she left them alone. While Skyla was on a 7 year shopping trip, Naomi and Owen were getting adopted by their gram.
ReplyDeleteSantiago is loving and trustworthy I know this because when Naomi dropped her dog soap carving, Santiago said that her dog looked better with 3 legs. He is trustworthy because he said that he should never had married Skyla or believed her because when Santiago went to fix his boat , out in the storm Skyla was with Owen and Naomi getting them ready to go to Lemon Tree with Gram in Baby Beluega. Santiago is loving because he speaks gentle, he loves Naomi and Owen, he liked to listen to Naomi´s laughing and says loving words to him and finally he liked to listen to Owen´s rusty laughs. But Santiago was always loving to Naomi and Owen but especially to Naomi because that time when Naomi and Santiago were soap carving on the house stoop it was a beautiful memory for him.
ReplyDeleteThe theme in Yo, Naomi Leon (I read the the spanish version) is loving. I think this because in the book it said that Skyla ditches Naomi and Owen for 7 years, but yet Abuelita still cared for the kids just like she cared for Skyla. Also Fabiola's sister Flora let Bernando, Fabiola, Owen, Naomi, and Abuelita into their home while they escape from Skyla. In conclusion, this is why I think the theme is loving.
