  1. Santiago's actions were he knelt down on one knee and told Naomi to be brave ,which ment even though she was going back to Lemon Tree a part of Oaxaca will
still be with you . Santiago 's beliefs are even though you are doing something uncomfortable you still need to be brave.

  2. Santiagos actions was when he satrted to cry when he saw naomi for the first time in seven years and then he said ''I am sorry for leaving you and I should have fought for you annd owen but I didnt and I was wrong. This shows me that Santiagos belief system is that every kid should be in the right hands and with a caring and loving parent unlike Skyla.

  3. An action is Santiago felt ashamed that he left the kids for seven years and did not argue with Skyla about taking the kids. His belief was that every kid should have a parent and love.He felt bad for not trying more to get the kids and he felt sorry for them to be without a parent for that long and with a grandma

  5. Santiago's actions were amazed. The belief is Santiago never thought that a Leon will carve a lion for the Radish contest.Another example is when Santiago was upset that he didn't go to the radish contest to carve and compete so when they were home Naomi gave Santiago her lion that she carved for the contest and Santiago said"I will give it to aunt terries for she can color it".

  6. I think Santiago believes that certain things that happen are meant to happen. In the yard when Naomi was carving, she accidentally carved off one of the dog's legs. But Santiago evened out the rugged edges and said "Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be". Another example is that Santiago said to Naomi that she was meant to be in California and that he wanted her to be brave.

  8. I think Santiago believes that children need parents. The action I know from this belief is when Santiago first saw Naomi and everyone he ran away because he felt ashamed that he had left his children but then he came back and held Naoi and Owen in his arms. But compared to Skyla she just walked in and was like love I am here now be thankful and didn't even care that she had left her children.Another belief Santiago has is everything is the it was meant to be .The action for this belief is when Naomi was carving a dog she accedentily carved off the leg and Santiago said that maybe the dog was supposed to be a three legged dog and then he made the edges of the dog smoother and gave her a lion with a girls head.

I think that Santiago believes that the way things turn out are how they are meant to turn out. For example, Naomi was soap carving and she accidentally cut the leg of her dog off and Santiago said that was how it was meant to be. Maybe it was just supposed to be a three legged dog or a tragedy happened to it and it lost its leg. Another example is when Naomi found Santiago at the radish carving festival and later on he said this was how life was meant to turn out.

  10. Santiago believes all kids should be treated the same no matter what.An action that supports my answer is unlike Skyla he was happy to see both Naomi and Owen.

  11. Santiago believes he should be with his children because he doesn't have much time.

I know this because on page 219 Santiago said “no don't be sad, there is still some magic left inside”.He said it so Naomi wouldn't feel sad about accidentally cutting off the leg to her lion soap carving. On page 222 Santiago say's “Naomi I would love for you to come to my house but right now your life is in California.I've written the note to the Judge,I told the truth about your mother and that my wishes are for you and Owen to live with Maria”.Santiago said that so Naomi would stop worrying about leaving him and having to be forced to live with Skyla .This proves Santiago want's to be with Naomi and Owen so he could be with them for the seven years he lost with them.

  12. Santiago believes that you should always be brave.I know this because in the book it said that when something bad happens,it was meant to be.One action is when Naomi was carving her dog,one of the legs fell off.Santiago told her not to be sad and he told her that it was meant to be a three legged dog.Another action is when Santiago told Naomi that when they would go to the court, everything that was going to happen was meant to be.My last action is,Santiago was brave enough to show up in Graciela's house. He was ashamed of himself when he didn't stand up for Naomi and Owen when Skyla took them.

  13. Santiago believes that after not seeing his kids after 7 years he shouldn't just walk up to them, but he should plan ahead.

I know this because once Santiago saw Naomi and Owen he ran away, but then came back and said that he ran to Aunt Teresa's to think of something to say to Naomi and Owen, instead of just introducing himself the way Skyla did. He cared and he knew that after not seeing your children after a long time you should be prepared and have something nice and special to say, to introduce yourself to your kids.

  14. Santiago believes that if you are brave, everything will be the way it was meant to be. When Naomi had said, "why can't we stay here? You love it here. You said so yourself. Owen loves it and we are learning Spanish real good" and so on. But when Naomi was finished talking about how she wants to stay in Oxaca with their father, Santiago said to Naomi, "We have much to be thankful for. And everything will be the way it was meant to be." This proves that Santiago believes that everything should be the way it was meant to be and that Gram should be taking care of Naomi and Owen and be their parent.

  15. Santiago believes that Naomi is special. I know this because Santiago said that Naomi has a special last name which is Soledad and that is the name of the saint that is on the church. Also Santiago said that Naomi has a special last name because he said that you could save fishermen if they are caught in a storm and they can't find their way home. If you call for help in the middle of a storm and you are out at sea she will help you.

  16. Santiago has a hard time in the beginning. He feels terrible for leaving his kids for such a long time. Also Santiago didn't like that Skyla didn't allow see his kids by using the police scare him. Santiago is great dad because he named his boat after Naomi. He has been spending more time with his kids since returning from Mexico. Since his return Owen has been blabbering his excitement and Naomi has started crying. Santiago has a good effect on everybody, he is good man who tries his best. He believes in kids and loves them, Santiago only wants whats best for them.

  17. Santiago believes that if you have not seen or left your son or daughter you have to think that you left your kids when they were little. You can not say come over here and give me a hug and never say you are sorry to them. He believes that when something you love someone that you show them instead of tell them. That makes them feel it. Santiago says you can be brave and fight against the bad.

  18. Santiago believes if you are at somewhere and it feels right you are apart of it and that if someone leaves you won't forget them. In the text it said Santiago even when you leave your name is a part of Soladad and when your gone you could protect me when I am at sea. He said he ran away because he was ashamed of leaving Naomi and Owen and not fighting to keep them. He didn't say No to Skyla and didn't come back for them and did not visit them.

  19. Santiago believes that if you believe, things will be the way they are meant to be. I know this because when Santiago saw Naomi's soap dog lost a leg that she accidently cut off and she was sad, Santiago said, "Maybe that was the way it was meant to be. Maybe the do lost something in a tragic experience so the lost leg represents that." Also when Naomi had to leave but she didn't want to, Santiago said, "Be brave, Naomi Leon. If you do, maybe things will turn out the way they are supposed to be."

  20. Santiago believes that Noami will be brave. I know this because when Naomi was sad to go back home Santiago said to Naomi be brave because she wanted to stay with her dad. She didn't want to go back home. She wanted to go to school there.

  21. Santiago believes bravery and confidence can help you do anything. I know this because in the chapter a cry of hounds Santiago hugs Naomi and says, "I promise to be brave, do you promise to be brave?" Right before Naomi was going to leave for court. Another example is when the bus didn't come for three days he went to aunt Teresa's house and thought about going home but something told him he should go back. And that's how he found Naomi. The last reason is when Santiago ran he did it because he was afraid he kids wouldn't like him. But he found that confidence in him to come back and apologize.
