The author's message that I can relate to is: " You have to work in life for what you want". One example is Bud worked really hard to find his father. Another example is Bud said he'd work really hard to live up to his family's expectations for playing the saxophone. I've had to work really hard to get my high ranking belt in karate. My parents expect me to get good grades. I'm working really hard to live up to their expectations.
ReplyDeleteOne author's message that spoke to me personally was that you have to work hard to earn what you want. This message is important to me because it tells readers that not everything is easy to get and you have to work to get what you need. It is also important to me because it applies in my life, too, like how my mom and dad have to go to their jobs and work hard for money to buy things like food and clothes for our family. The author explores that big message in the text. The first example is when Bud had to go through a tough time to get to his father,Herman E. Calloway, all during the Great Depression, where it was a hard time, especially for Bud, and he didn't have any parents either, which proves he was going to work to find his family and a home and food with people who care for him. Another example is when Bud was going to have to practice a couple hours a day to live up to the fact that he was going to be part of the band, The Dusky Devastaters of the Depression. Plus, he had to do it for a few years to be as good and talented as Steady Eddie and the band-mates, even though since Bud was so excited he said only in a few weeks he would be as good as them, which proves he was willing to wok for it to get what he wanted to achieve.
ReplyDeleteI think that an author's message that really speaks to me is one I thought myself: don't give up and you will find a better life. An example for that in the story is when Bud was at the mission and the man so no more people could get food after the couple there and that there was a limit Bud didn't give up. He kept on trying to ask even until the man was about to whip Bud before the family came and saved him. Another example is when Bud was in the shed. He still didn't give up even when he was stung by all those hornets and cut his hand on the fish head guard. He still found a way to escape: busting out the window. I can relate to that because I had to move all the way here from New Jersey and I didn't know anyone. I wanted to make friends, I didn't give up and I had new friends and a better life in New York. I was happy. And I always try my best with my schoolwork even if it's hard. I try to not give up and try my best. Like Bud.
ReplyDeleteAn author's message is that "There are people in life who will support you." This message is important to me because there are people that are angels in life who were put there to support you. This relates to me because when I get in trouble for some reason my parents are always there to support me. The author explored this message through the text details when Lefty Lewis drove Bud to Grand Rapids, he saved Bud from walking 120 miles to Grand Rapids on foot. The librarian also played a role as someone who supported Bud when she gave him a surprise: The Pictorial Book Of the War Between the States. But when it was time to close the library at 6:00 pm, the librarian saw how hungry Bud was and gave him her cheese sandwich.
ReplyDeleteThe authors message to my in Bud,not buddy to me is belhive that you can achieve. Early in the text when steady eddie gave Bud a saxaphone, bud said that he will be good as them in 3 weeks. This shows that Bud belhived that he would be a great saxaphone player.
ReplyDeleteLater in the text Bud belhive in his moma's words, ''When one door closes, dont worry because another one will open''. This shows proves that the authors message is belhive that you can achieve because Bud belhived in what is momma said so much that alot of open doors happened.
In addition Bud belived that he can achieve to finding his father, or just a kin. This proves that the authors message is belhive that you can achieve because Bud belhived so much that he found his grandfather, and a home. I can relate to this because once I belhived that I can do a cartwheel, and all I had to do was belhive in myself and try, and after 5 or 6 times, I finally did it.
The author's message that really spoke to me was "don't judge a book by it's cover", this message is important to me because when people say that your mean because you look mean doesn't mean your mean you can probably just be nice. When the Christopher Paul Curtis made this book he made Herman E. Calloway a grumpy ,orney old man and he didn't really like Bud but after he heard that Angela died and Bud was his grandson he said sorry to Bud.This shows Herman isn't a bad man and that he had it in him.
ReplyDeleteAn author's message in Bud not Buddy is you have to work to get what you want. For example Bud lived up to the expectations of playing the sax for the dusky devastaers of the depression. Another example is Bud had to work to get to Herman E. Calloway and the dusky devastaers of the depression.
ReplyDeleteThis message relates to me because I had to work to get on my travel team.
ReplyDeletean author message in bud not buddy is risk could have good result and bad result.I know this because when he was with the band they did not send bud back to the home and this is a good result because he did not have to go back to amose and he finally a had somewhere to stay instead of going to his 3 foster home.Other example is that when bud was in the shed he got bit by hornets this is a bad result.
ReplyDeleteThe authors message that stands out to me is, don't judge a book by it's cover. for example, when bud went to herman e calloway house herman said thers no way were kin.but it ture out that herman was buds grandpa.this shows that herman did not think bud was kin.another example is when bud was in his moms room herman came and said i know your kind. this shows herman thinks bud is a stear. i can relate to this because my football coach thought i was going to be a bad football playerbut i was not
ReplyDeleteOne authors message in "Bud, Not Buddy" is don't judge a book by its cover. This message is important to me because some people look at you and by the way you look they think you're mean or stuck up or super nice, and so on, but they don't even know you they just think that is how you act. For example when Bud first met Herman he was grumpy and old and rude, but when Herman found out that Bud was Angela's son and that Angela had died he tried to say sorry and was crying really hard and everyone thought he was a mean old grumpy dude, plus he locked himself in his room for a very long time because he was so sad. Another example is Herman thought that Bud would never be family to him and was just some little boy but he later found out that Bud was his grandson and that he actually was related to him. Lastly when Bud was in the room of Angela, Herman busted in and locked the closet door because he automaticaly thought Bud was going to steal something but he didn't even know Bud and if he would steal anything.
ReplyDeleteMy author's message is you can't judge a book by its cover. One example that related to my message is when Bud called Herman E. Calloway a "cry baby". Bud called Herman that because bud thought you can't cry when your six and older.Bud should not call Herman a cry baby because Herman had found out that his daughter had past on. Another example is when Herman called bud the "stealing kind" Bud says he never stole anything, the only place he stole From was a garbage can.Is it possible you can steel from a garbage can? My last and final example is when Bud thinks that he gets all the bad things in life, like when he says "uh, oh here we go again" so bud thinks bad things happen in his life but this time he didn't he said "here we go again" but this time he says " here we go again, momma but this time I can wait"! This relates to me is when I thought my friend in second grade was a liar and not a kind of person to be around with but until a special party came up in school she had a difference she pasted out everyone cookies that she made on her own and she gave me a special card that she made and bought for me!
ReplyDeletewhen you work hard enough good things will come to come to you. for example when bud worked through the shed /rideing the rails . he didn't give up he kept trying and trying to find family and look where that got him with a whole bunch of people incuding his grandfather so keep working and good things will come to you.!11
ReplyDeleteThe message that stood out to me is to never give up hope. I know this because bud use to be “dust in the wind” and had “no” family but then Deza came along and told him he wasn’t dust in the wind he had a father so afterword bud found his “dad”. Another example is that even when you are locked up in a shed with a blood stain and a hornets nest at a abusive foster home there is still hope when that happened to Bud he eventually ended up in a nice house with a loving man named lefty lewes. This message spoke tome because at the end of the book it really showed how bud made it thru all that when it started of at a orphanage that is showing hope.
ReplyDeleteA message in Bud Not Buddy that stood out to me was “never give up.” I know this because on Bud’s journey to find his father, he never gave up, no matter what stood in his way. For example, when he was in the shed, he didn’t stop trying to fight off the hornets, and with determination, he broke through to try to find a better life and his father. Another reason I know this to be true is that Herman E. Calloway was denying that he was kin to Bud and being mean and ornery and not wanting him to stay in his house, but Bud kept insisting that Herman was his father.
ReplyDeleteI think that the author's message is fight for what you want. For example when Bud was at the mission and he was late the man kept saying "I'm sorry kid, but these two folks are the last ones" and Bud kept saying "but sir." This shows that Bud wouldn't let the man scare him. Another example is when Bud was at the Amose's shed, he thought that the Amoses were just using him to get money from the state and there he was in the shed with lots of hornets. Bud thought that he was not being treated well. He thought "no one can treat me like this." So he put water on Tom's bed because Bud knew that Mrs. Amose hated kids who wet her sheets. Another reason why I think the author's message is "fight for what you want" is because Herman E. Callaway didn't think that Bud was his son, but Bud kept on saying "you are my father." He kept on saying that because he knew that it was his father. Bud said it so much that Herman didn't take him back to the orphanage. This reminds me of when I was eight. My mother wouldn't let me have some ice cream, but I screamed and yelled and she got me one.
ReplyDeleteI think the author's message for Bud, Not Buddy is never give up. I know this because nothing could stop Bud from finding Herman E. Calloway. "Not hunger, not fear, not even Herman E. Calloway himself." Bud did not let getting beat or abused stop him from finding his father. Not even walking 120 miles to Grand Rapids from Flint, Michigan. He didn't let the Amos' locking him in a shed stop him at all. I now know that Bud is an important character because I have a listening problem, but have not given up on trying to stop spacing out and pay attention.
ReplyDeleteThe author message is that lying can work out for some people because all Bud did was lie to people and he got where he needed to go. Like grand rapids with Herman E.Calloway. Ms.Tomes help Bud stay at the house so Bud wouldn't have to go back to the foster care were they don't know your name so lying can help some people situations.
ReplyDeleteThe message that I can relate to is when the author said: "Don't worry when one door closes another door opens". Bud mother said that to him. For example: When Bud was trying to get food he could not get it because they took their last customers. But then a couple act like they were his parents and helped him get food.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think that's a great theme!!! Just what I was looking for!! Thanks again!
DeleteOne authors message in Bud, Not Buddy that stands out to me is, You have to work to get what you want in life.
ReplyDeleteOne example for this authors message is,
Bud had to work to get to Herman E. Calloway.
Another example is,
Bud had to work to get up to family expectations.
One message from Bud, Not Buddy is, with hard work and determination you can accomplish anything. I know this because on Buds quest to find his father it takes him a lot of hard work and determination.
ReplyDeleteAn example of Buds determination and hard work is when Bud went to the mission but Bud was too late so a man who worked at the mission stopped Bud. The man said "you can't get on the line this here is the last couple in line". "But sir" Bud would argue "I said this here is the last couple on line" the man said, getting aggravated enough to pull out a black leather strap."Clarence what took you so long" a voice boomed from behind Bud. This shows Buds determination and hard work because Bud didn't give up, even though he almost got strapped.
Another example showing hard work and determination is at the Amos's and Bud got locked up in their shed. Bud accidentally broke a wasps nest in half and cut himself on the fish head guards. But Bud didn't let that stop him, he fought back and made Todd wet the bed. This shows hard work and determination because nothing stopped Bud from trying.
The author's message from Bud, not Buddy, by Christopher Paul Curtis is that you have to work hard to get what you want in life. This stands outs to me because in the text, when Bud was going to the Mission in Chapter 3, a guy said 'you can't come in', but Bud kept on trying to get his breakfast until the man was about to strap him and he was saved by a fake family. Also, when Bud was looking for his famous grandfather, Herman E. Calloway and Herman didn't believe that Bud was his son, Bud stayed with them until he did believe him instead of going back to the home.
ReplyDeleteAn author's message from Bud, Not Buddy is don't judge a book by it's cover. I know this because Herman was telling Bud that he was a disturbed child. The only reason he said that was because his daughter Angela ran away. Herman didn't know that his daughter had a child and that she was dead. Bud thought Herman was tough but he did cry and say he was sorry to Bud but his tongue wouldn't let him. This meant that he was still nice on the inside. I also know this because Bud thought after age six you aren't cute anymore and you have to be tough. Bud was saying he wasn't a crybaby. He pretended like people should be scared of him. Later in the text he lets out his emotions. He cries and is empathetic to others.
ReplyDeletefor me the message was be brave and don't give up
