  1. I am doing mine on Christopher Columbus. Some facts that I know about him is that he was born in 1451 and died around 1602. He found Jamaica and some other parts of the Caribbean like the Bahamas in search of gold for himself, Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. He has the title Admiral of The Ocean Sea and he got one tenth of the gold from all the lands he discovered. To me the most interesting fact about Christopher Columbus is that when he was on the boat he thought he could die on it so he took a piece of parchment and wrote about his whole journey on it, put it in a barrel and threw it into the ocean. I think that's interesting because it doesn't seem like any other explorer would do that and it seems very smart because if he did die on the ship people would still know about his exploration. What's different about the time period is that he and everyone else living in that time wore different clothes and the technology we use is a lotmore advanced. Did they have phones back then? No. Computers? No. And the ships are more advanced too and have more advanced technology.

  2. I've learned from my research on Marco Polo that when Marco and his father & uncle went to China, they were forced to stay there. This was interesting because I thought that Marco, his father, and uncle went to China to prove there was another side to the world and that they came back with riches. I learned from the time period of my early explorer, is that it wouldn't have taken Marco so long to get to China if there was a different way of traveling, like an airplane.

  3. I am doing Leif Erikson. The most interesting thing that I learned is that Leif is that he found America more than 500 years before Christopher Columbus, and he found it early on and there were few visits in his time back to the new land (which is now Newfoundland), which includes his sister's visit. This surprises me because I didn't know that Christopher Columbus sailed to America 500 years after Leif. It also surprises me that there were few visits because making a new discovery is a pretty big deal, and I wold want to visit a new land, and I do not understand why other people would want to make the trip especially if Leif Erikson said there were plenty of resources, white sanded beaches, and timber and trees were heathy forests grew. I discovered the time period was different because they took Viking boats to get to Newfoundland (and they were Vikings), although today we would take a common plane or a more advanced boat to get there. Also, in the photos and descriptions of Leif Erikson and his crew, they wore different clothing, and they wore capes, metal and steel armor, and Vikings' helmets.

  4. I am doing mine on Marco Polo. He was a trader. He brought noodles to China from Italy. He went back in a boat he needed to fulfill he's father's community. He went through the Gobi Desert. He had a notebook that told about
his adventures. When he got back he was thrown in jail When he was in jail he told stories about his adventures.
The most interesting thing I learned was that he went back in a boat. I thought that he was just walking back.I learned
that back then you just had to walk or take a boat now we can take a train or a plane to places. Also back then they didn't have stores they had to trade goods. they also dressed differently. they didn't have a lot of money either. they didn't have the type of jobs we had today. we have better homes.

  5. My early explorer is Leif Ericson. Some facts about Leif Ericson is that he was born around 970. People would call Lief Ericson Leif the lucky. When I heard that Leif was the first to discover North America I was surprised. I was thought that Christopher Columbus was the first one to discover North America. I found out that Leif Ericson discovered North America 500 years before Christopher Columbus. I think this was interesting because I have never heard of Leif Ericson before and it is my first time studying about him. The things that I learned about him I never knew. I think in the early time periods it was different from today because instead of traveling with ships we can travel with an airplane.

I am did my project on Jacques Cartier the most interesting fact I learned about him was that he founded Canada this is interesting to me because I don't really know anything about Canada, and just so happens that I learned a lot about early Canada researching Jacques Cartier. One big thing I learned about back then is that big, rich countries like England and Spain tried to attack not as rich countries and take there stuff.

  8. My explorer is Christopher Columbus. One thing I learned about my explorer is he had two sons named Diego and Fernando, Diego's mom was a rich girl from a family in Portugal and Fernando's mom was a 20 year old orphan mistress named Beatriz Enriquez De Arana. Another thing I learned is Christopher Columbus attended Prince Henry's School of Navigation in Portugal. An interesting fact I learned was that when Christopher was on his voyages his whole crew had lice. This interested me because there were a lot of men on his crew and all those men had lice. Another fact that was really interesting to me was on the crew of the Santa-Maria there was a physician named Juan Sanchez. This interests me because my last name is Sanchez and his last name is Sanchez. I know that around Christopher Columbus's time they wore different clothing and the things thy had back then were not as modern as today. For example the houses they had then were not at all like the ones we have now, and all our technology is way better then theirs, they didn't even have technology!

  9. One of the most interesting facts about Sir Francis Drake (my early Explorer) is he was the captain of 3 ships, The Golden Hind (previously known as the pelican) the Bonaventure and the Revenge. And I think it's cool because if I was a captain, I would only want to be the captain of 1 ship not 5,10,15,20,or 3 ships and if there are so many people on each of the three ships how can Drake keep track of all the ships at the same time if there all running at different rates of time? Another cool fact about Sir Francis Drake is he went on these missions also to bring gold back to the queen Queen Elizabeth The First, that is how Francis Drake became "Sir" Francis Drake after the queen knighted him. Last, the time that he lived in is different then the time that we live in because they wore different close, the ships were different, and there was no electricity back then.

  11. I learned about marco polo th as that he is his dad, and his uncle had went to China and met the Emporer. I also learned that he's journey was very dangerous and it took him 3 years to make it to China. The most interesting fact I learned about my explorer is he became the leader of a city at around the age of 20. It was the most interesting fact for me because he was so young and he was already in charge of a city. The thing that is different marco polo's time and our time is that our time has better routes and ships. Are routes are better because Marco polo had walked a desert to get to China. Our ships are better because his ship was so broken he abandoned it and walked the rest of the way.

  12. During my research I learned that John Cabots name was actually Giovanni Caboto, But the English changed it to sound more English. I also learned that England changed their flag when they conquered Scottland and again for Ireland. When Cabot was alive Europe was very into exploring and finding new land for their country. That was how he got inspired to be an explorer.

  13. My famous explorer is Marco Polo. The most interesting fact I learned about him is that he was born in Italy and it was not a country then. The most interesting fact about that time is also that Italy was not yet a country then. I have learned many more facts about him I have learned, but these are the most interesting facts about him.

  14. I learned that Marco Polo is an very interesting explorer because he was able discover new animals. Some of the animals that he discovered were elephants , monkey and rhino. Marco Polo wrote down all of his new discoveries so everyone would know about it. Marco wanted to finish his fathers journey , because he was a traveler too. Marco Polo family was from Venice , Italy. His family worked as merchants to support the families travels.

  15. My explorer that I searched on was Christopher Columbus. One thing I learned was he was born in 1451 and died at age 54 or 55. At age 19 or 20 he started exploring. First he explored for 36 days at the Bahamas, claiming it for Spain. The most interesting fact that I learned is in on January 1503 he reached panama and found gold. I think that's an interesting fact because most explorers didn't find much gold even though it was there goal. Time period before was different because they had no perfect clothing or perfect materials. Time period now we have perfect iron materials and they had stone and wood materials. Now you know that we had different and better things than they had before. They needed ships if they wanted to travel but now we cars and planes.

  16. My explorer that I searched was Marco Polo, What I think it's so interesting about him is that he stayed in China for seventeen years, and delivered messages from the ruler of China. The reason why I think it's so interesting is because to stay in China for seventeen years and deliver messages for the ruler is awesome and when I grow up I will never be able to deliver messages for a ruler. Compare to how we live today and how Marco Polo lived then was awesome. Because is not like I could go ride a ship and discover a new place and deliver letters.

  17. CHARLIE BANANA SMILEY FACE IS SO SWAGALISHUS HE WILL BLOW UP THE UNIVERSE® AND SEW SANIA FOR COPYRIGHT® LOL :-)March 19, 2015 at 8:22 PM

One of the most interesting fact about Marco polo is that his uncle and father went out on a voyage when Marco was only 1 and they came back when Marco was 15 years old and asked Marco to go on a voyage with him and Marco did. Another cool fact about Marco polo is that when Marco was only 40 years old he got captured in war by the other country and met a writer who inspired him to write “The Travels of Marco polo”. My last cool fact about Marco polo is that his long voyage lasted for 24 years and for those 24 years he was buying and selling stuff at different places to make money as a merchant. What I learned about the 1200’s was that it was about then when king Author ruled and in the us all there was where native americans settling and squirrels ,so basically nothing it is different from now because the transportation was bad, no cars, trains, buses or plains. only horses rafts and walking. There was no electricity or any fancy gadgets like I pod touches (of corse) and people didn’t know anything about the world or mathematics.

  18. Some facts I learned about Hernan Cortes is that he made two trips to Central America and Mexico. Cortes took all the Aztec's gold, and conquered Mexico.

Its interesting to me that Cortes conquered the Aztecs because I don't think that's its right for someone to just come into your land, take all of your gold and then destroy your city.

Something I learned about their time period is that's its different from ours is that when Cortes sailed his ship he didn't have trusty gadget to help him navigate where he was going. Now we have all this kind of technology that people back then couldn't even dream of.

  20. My explorer is Henry Hudson, I learned that there are still several places that are named after him. I also learned that he didn't accomplish his goal to find a new trading route. But one of the facts that I found was sad. He died because he got cast off of his own ship with part of the crew including his son.

What I found interesting about Henry Hudson was the fact that he explored in the state we live in, he was how the Hudson river was named, and we have some areas in New York that he discovered.

The difference between our time period and Henry Hudson's time period is that we are more civilized. Because back then when all of the explorers were alive they attacked or killed the Indians in order to take their land.

  21. My explorer, Marco Polo, took risks in his life because he crossed a desert that was more than 10,000 miles. Because when he went to China he wanted to go through the spice road but there was a war between Egypt and another country. So he had to go back and take the silk road with camels and they did not have a lot of water or food. This reminded me of the big trip we took two summers ago when we went to California and crossed a desert in Nevada then Wyoming and finally Colorado. And this took 2,000 miles in 3 days. The time period is different because back then they had to cross deserts with camels which go 5 miles per hour and we have cars that go at least 50 miles per hour.
