The Revolutionary War Part 2

Think about the knowledge you shared about the Revolutionary War last week.

Add on to your thinking. Give more detail about what you learned.

What questions do you still have about the Revolutionary War? Were there any questions that you had that you were able to answer through your research? Explain.

  1. My first fact is in the battle of Cowpens the British lost around 60 men dead and around 200 wounded and around 825 captured but the American army only lost 12 men dead and 2 wounded. That was a very bad loss for the British. My second fact is that the Battle of Long Island was the first big battle in the Revolutionary war and a bad loss for the American army because they had to retreat into Pennsylvania. My final fact is that the American army attacked Canada so they could protect New England which was a success .

  2. My first fact is that On April 18,1775 British troops in Boston didn't follow normal orders &took an exit out of Boston, which was observed by Dr. Joseph Warren; a physician and writer, who sent two horseback riders: Paul Revere & Dawn Williams to alert others. Revere used lanterns at the Old North Church to signal others of British movement. News spread quickly that the British were approaching Lexington and Concord. Local militias joined together to block the British's path. By time April 19 British and Militia battled face to face.Someone unknown fired the first shot and the resulted to 8militias dead and 10injured. Militia retreated in face of the British.

A question I had about the Revolutionary war was about the Boston tea party; I wondered what the cost was for the overthrown tea and found out it cost £10,000 ( $18,157 ).

A fact I know is one of the battles was the Boston Massacre when people were throwing random things at the British like shells and other objects and it left five people dead! And a fact that is interesting to me is that Joseph Brandt and a bunch of other Iroquois fought for the British which is kind of a coincidence because we were just learning about the Iroquois in our studies. It was because lots of white settlers took over their lands and their crops which I think was wrong because the Iroquois built and planted all that themselves and the white settlers can't just take over everything the Iroquois built which it probably took years to make. Another was that the Boston Tea party was about colonists protesting to putting the tax on the tea. The British taxed a lot of things like documents, clothes, sugar, tea and even playing cards. And so one of the ways the colonists protested was by having the Boston Tea Party where they threw a lot of boxes of tea into the Boston Harbor. I think that it is good they stood up for themselves. If I was in that time period I would be enraged. A question I had was how many people got killed in the Boston Massacre? But I eventually read it was five.

My first fact on the revolutionary war is the battle of Long Island took place in New York and now we call it the battle of Brooklyn.
My second fact on the revolutionary war is the battle of Buckner Hill actually took place on Breeds Hill not Buckner Hill. This battle was on June 17,1775.
My final fact on the revolutionary war is you were picked to fight in the war at ages 18 - 24.

The stuff that I learned about the revolutionary war time is that 1 The Boston Massacre many troops from England were sent to keep watch of the Sons Of Liberty but the American people were taunting them so one solder said "SHOOT" and they killed 12 people but only 2 of them were found guilty but they didn't even get thrown in prison.

Fact # 2 is that people could sell and buy African American’s at shops and use these foot handcuffs so you can't run away from the stores. Also trading slaves broke up many families when one trader buys the dad and another buys the mom.

Something that I wonder is how much do the taxes actually cost for stuff like tea paper and stuff

While we were studying the revolutionary war this week I learned a lot of interesting facts but these were the 3 ones that stood out to me. Fact #1 is when people were auctioning slaves they had a stage to showcase the slaves they were selling and they cuffed the slaves feet to the stage. Fact#2 is that originally the colonial army only had 75 people against 1000 British soldiers. Fact #3 is that that Benedict Arnold was on the American side but then he was a traitor and went to the British. I wonder if they still wore those heavy coats they wore during summer.

This week I learned about the liberty hall in the Revolutionary. The Independence Hall is it red brick building in Philadelphia from 1775 to 1783 it was the meeting Place of the second Continental Congress. It's an assembly room is one of the largest in America. I also learned about the Boston massacre. The British placed 4000 soldiers in Boston that is about one soldier for every four people regular person. One winter day some boys start rolling snowballs at the sentry, call for help getting 8 soldiers, killing five people. Citizens began to band together and call themselves the Sons of liberty. They people drink coffee and made clothes when taxes were high. I also learned about Paul Revere's midnight ride. Paul Revere traveled on horseback on the night of April 18/19th 1775 16 miles from Charleston to Lexington to warn people that the British were coming to arrest them.

  10. My facts are about the Molasses Act:
In 1733, Parliament passed the Molasses Act, which added a 6 cents tax on a gallon of molasses, which was a lot. In 1764, they replaced the Molasses Act with the Sugar Act. This act reduced the tax to 3 cents. There were also new taxes on wine. However, the colonists could not afford the new taxes on goods. Samuel Adams was the first to criticize this new policy. The Parliament did not agree with ending the taxes and they introduced the Stamp Act.
One question I was able to answer that I was wondering about is the tax they included with the Molasses Act, which was 6 cents.
One question I still have is why did the Parliament choose taxing the Americans as a way to get more money?

I remembered that the first man shot in the Boston Massacre was a black man named Crispus Attucks. About 5,000 African American men and boys fought in the
war. George Washington rarely had even 15,000 men under his comma at a time. Washington did not receive
to pay for his military service. On june 14,1775,the second Continental Congress, responding to the growing crisis near Boston, directed that one of its own
constituents -George Washington -take command of the
    newly designated Continental army

  12. In 1769 during the Boston massacre kids were throwing rocks and snowballes. They were also shouting Lobsterback and Lobster. After an hour or so a redcoat hit a boy with a button of a musket because he got mad when they insulted his captain. He thought he was going to die because the crowd of people were shouting kill the solider kill the coward. The crowd started to throw chunks of ice and wood. The solider was crying for help and so 7 more soldiers arrived to help. Meanwhile part of the crowd was shouting you cowards let's see you fire. The other part was shouting you dare not not fire. Others were crying yup bloodybacks. The redcoats thought they heard their captain say fire so they did and killed people and left 2 wounded. I've been wondering how much did the dept cost that the British had to pay? One question that was answer is that why did the redcoats shoot 3 people.

I learned in the Boston massacre that a black man who was a slave and escaped from his master got shot and killed and he was one of the first Americans to die for America's freedom.

I learned in the Boston tea party that a group of Americans were dressed as American Indians and went on British transport ships and threw tea crates in the water. They did that because the colonist thoughts it was unfair that they had to drink tea and pay taxes for it.

I learned in the battle of Lexington/1st battle of the war that there were 1,000 British troops that were called Red Coats and 70 colonists who weren't even trained to be soldiers.

I learned in the battle of Bunker Hill that Charles Town got burned by British navy. And that's important because Charles Town was one of the biggest and most important cities in 1775 to 1783.

I wonder how the Americans won the Revolutionary War because the Red Coats were the best fighters in the 1700s. And I wonder that because in the beginning of the Revolutionary War we were loosing. And I also wonder how Boston got under American control because 1,000 Red Coats were surrounding Boston.

  14. I learned that France joined America's side and fought against Britain, and the French general's name was Lafayette. I also the learned that the first time the colonialists and Britain fought was during the battle of Brooklyn. The British won that battle and the American's ran away.

One of my questions is, what was the first battle America won against Britain, also were there any important sea battles?

  15. When the American Revolution started the Great Briton had48,000 soldiers in the army. Americans in the war did not follow rules, at least not like the Europeans did. Over time U.S leaders thought it was too risky to go out to war for the the British to continue a war so far from Europe. Parliament had to send supplies over the Atlantic Ocean which took money. Also during the Revolutionary War King George III was leading the British Side of the war, while on the American Side of the war George Washington was leading.

  16. I learned that during the Revolutionary war that America didn't have the proper tools to keep men alive. Something I forgot was did America win or lose the war. Since so many people died because of this harsh war. Another question I wonder was how many men in total died during the war. Congress has the power to makes laws I wonder if any laws changed or were created after the war. America's allies were France and Spain if we had more would this have made the war last for shorter amount of time. Lastly I wonder had America been able to adopt women soldiers and place them into war would this have changed things .

  17. Why did King George cause all the Acts like the Sugar Act, the Stamp Act and the Tea Act? I found out the answer. It was that King George III found out the country was becoming bankrupt and did not have that much money, so his solution was to tax the colonists.

Another question is what caused the French-Indian War? All the causes of the wars in general. What other famous generals were there?

  18. My facts are about the Boston massacre, a man named Crispus Attucks known to be a African American slave who led the protest against the British soldiers. The massacre started when unarmed Bostonians began throwing snowballs and chunks of ice at the red coats shouting things like "lobster back". The civilians then started beating the soldiers with clubs. As soon as the people hit Tereasa red coats last nerve they started shooting into the crowd killing three people right away and two died later because of their wounds. The soldiers didn't get hung instead they got something that said manslaughter stamped into their wrists that would never come off.

A few unanswered questions that I have are why did Britain go to war with the Indians, why did the British agree with the declaration of independence. Through out the research time I've had so far many of my questions have been solved.

to war lots of women had big roles. Some women helped
by making food for the man back then women did the
