I think that the author's giving a bunch of messages to the readers, who are usually children. Pam Muñoz Ryan is trying to tell children no matter who you're talking to you should always treat them the way you want to be treated, you never know what's happening in someone's private life and if there's something that happened that made them sad, mad or frustrated. For example Naomi has all the crazy stuff happening in her life. Her mother abandoned Naomi and her brother Owen, and she comes back after seven years and doesn't even hug them properly but a cheek-to-cheek touch. Another example from the text is before she left she told Mary (the great grandmother) I can't take care of two children, by my self it's to hard, especially when one is deformed. My last example from the text is when the father went out on a fishing trip Skyla (the mother) was supposed to be taking care of Naomi and Owen instead of taking care of them she went on a shopping trip and left them alone. You should always treat someone the way you want to be treated because you never know what's happening in someones private life that made them sad,mad or frustrated.

DeleteA character trait that Skyla has is being irresponsible. I know this because she left her kids alone when they were 3 and one in a hotel so she could go SHOPPING!!!!!!!! I also know this because she was in trouble for a few years, which shows she can't really take care of her self.

DeleteIn the first chapter it said Naomi got bullied for her last name which was Outlaw. Then Naomi got mad. The best thing she did was a soap carving. In the text it said Naomi told Gram she had a bully in the old days. The author’s message is that a kid can go through hard times and overcome them with someone else. The main problem is that Naomi is worried that Gram will die. The character motivation is to calm herself doing the things she loves to do. The theme is don’t leave your children in hotel.

Naomi had never seen gram cry before that.My second piece of evidence is Naomi said " What will happen now"

ReplyDeleteI think Skyla believes that a kid knows everything. My first evidence is when Skyla came to see her kids in seven years she said, "you don't recognize your own mother!" And Naomi and Owen haven't seen her in seven years! My second piece of evidence is when Skyla was giving a hug (or not) to Owen. And the first thing she pointed out was the tape on Owen's shirt. Like he didn't know or wanted it there. I think Skyla hasn't been around kid's in a long time!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Lulu because Skyla can't just expect Naomi and Owen to recognize there own mother right away. See if my mother would have left me alone with my grandma and a brother with a disability. I don't think I would have recognized her after such a long time.
DeleteMy theory is that Naomi's mom went to jail. My first piece of evidence is after the Mom left the house,she broke the speed limit which shows she breaks the law. My second piece of evidence is in Naomi's backstory of her dad,it said her Mom was missing for a week,so maybe she was in jail then!!

I know this because in the text it says Skyla left a one year old and a four year old by them selfs when a strom was coming and another reson for my thinking is Syla left an one year old with bug bites that were infected and a four year old that doesn’t speak for sevan years with great gramma and didn’t give a card a letter or any thing for sevan years then came bac expecting praze and also expecting her children to know who she was and to love her. So thats why I think Skyla is a bad mom.

DeleteOne of the main problems in this story is Naomi has a bad mother her name is Skyla.I know this because in the text it says Skyla left her kids at Lemon Tree Branch Farm with their grandma for 7 years when she went on a "shopping trip". Also when she left Owen with his grandmother she called Owen, her own son, DEFORMED! When finally she came back and she saw Owen,he was putting tape on his own shirt and she said "what have you done to this kid?".That's why Skyla's a bad mom.

I think the mane problem in Becoming Naomi Leon is that Naomi doesn't fit in my evidence is that. Naomi doesn't really like makeup like all the other girl's and doesn't have a normal house like the other girl's. Naomi doesn't fit in because she doesn't have a normal family like the other girl's.

ReplyDeleteMy 1st piece of evidence is when Owen says "mom could sleep on my bed I can sleep on the ground so it could be like camping".
My second evidence is that he sticks up for his mom by saying "she prefers being called Skyla instead of Terry Lynn". <3<3<3
I chose Theory. My theory is that Skyla doesn't know her own children for who they are. My evidence is, if Naomi's mom had stayed, she would've known that Owen kept a piece of tape on his shirt, right across his chest, and wouldn't have tried to take it off. My 2nd evidence is, Skyla asked Gram " What have you done with these kids!?" Once again if she had stayed, then she would've known what Gram had done with the kids, and help out������
ReplyDeleteThe main problem in becoming Naomi leon is that she doesn’t know who her parents are.My evidence is if she knew her parents she could live with them,(in mexicxo) not in a trailer,in lemon tree.Also if she lived with her parents,she would go to a better school and make some new friends there.(cause she doesn’t have any friends at the school she’s at.)
ReplyDeleteI think the main problem is the mom.Because one,She didn't take good care of her daughter and son Naomi and Owen.My first peace of evidence is when Slyla came back for7 minutes she took off over speed limit,Naomi went to bed remembering what happened when she was so little.Also one of Grams metafors was some things are good and bad.So this means Slyla is trouble.

ReplyDeleteGram is a kind person because she just took the kids that were in a bad shape and accepted the kids.Skyla a.k.a Terry Lyn was talking very rude to Gram but she just kept calm and talk to Skyla.I also think Gran is funny person because i read that she said to Naomi "If you have a list ways to annoy your Gram i would appreciate to add this to this list.I also know this because the kids more fond of Gram so there most be many reasons like being funny,nice or not to strict.
My big idea is that Skyla is rebellious/rude. I know this because in the text it says that she was in her car and she past the speed limt also, Skyla said that she got into some trouble. Also, she said that Owen had something on his shirt befor she even hugged him!!!!and she changed her name from Terry Lynn to Skyla Jones. Finally,skyla just droped off Naomi and Owen to gram and said she didn't want a kid that was deformed infront of Owen and now she just came back.

I know this because in the text she uses her journal to put important things in it just in case she forgets something important and she doesn't have to ask gram like she did about the storm.Also, in the text it says ''just in case'' I whispered. I don't want to forget anything important that might be said. The authors message is to treat other people the way you want to be treated. I know that because in the text it says that Skyla left her children and I don't think that Skyla would want to be left without a mom or dad.
ReplyDeleteThe author's message in Naomi Leon is that when she takes the family of elephants out of her draw, the family represents her family. She wants her own family back. I know this because Naomi had all details of when her father left and when her mother left. I also know this because Naomi wanted her mother to come back because she had images in her head of what her Mom might be like.
ReplyDeleteI think Skyla's a bad mom because,when Naomi and Owen were little,Skyla left them in a motel by them self and never came back.Another reason why Skyla's a bad mom is because,she called Owen deformed.She said that right when Owen was next to her.She's acting like Owen doesn't have any feelings.
