i think mom wasn't at the conference my theory is she was probably drinking alcohol and to probably cover it it she brought owen a bike my evidence is she didn't want them to know that shes still drinking

DeleteMy theory is Clive is a bad influence for Skyla. My evidence is every time Skyla sees Clive she comes back smelling like alcohol.MY second piece of evidence is she always come home in terrible mood .
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Whenever Skyla comes back from Clive she's always in a cranky mood. Last time when she was in bed and woke up to do Naomi's hair she was all cranky and smelled like throw up and Naomi had no idea what was up with Skyla. Skyla kept tugging Naomi's hair and she wasn't really yelling but in a cranky scratchy voice she said, "Naomi where's the comb, get up I think your sitting on it!"
DeleteI think that the author’s message is having a mom drinking alcohol gives bad luck.The main problem in the story is that Skyla is rude to the father and the kids. The father wants to see the kids. The character’s, Naomi Leon, motivation is that she is worried that she will leave her Gram. The theme is Skyla leaves her kids in the lemon tree.
ReplyDeleteMy big idea is Skyla is trying to make the kids like her with money. My first piece of evidence is when Owen asked Skyla for a bike and Gram said,"I think that's a little too expensive." I think Skyla took that as an advantage and brought Owen a bike. My second piece of evidence is Skyla is always buying Naomi stuff so Naomi will think,"Oh,Skyla has money and Gram doesn't so I'll go with Skyla!!" But really Naomi and Owen don't care about money they care about love. Like when Skyla didn't go to the conference,Naomi and Owen got really sad. This is the reason Skyla is a bad mother!
ReplyDeleteSkyla should take more care of her kids with love. Not with money! She needs to learn that money can't fix everything! And not after not seeing your mom in seven years.
DeleteMy theory is Skyla is unreliable.My first piece of evidence is Skyla came 3 days later after the conference.My second piece of evidence is Skyla doesn't take her medicine.Both of the evidence shows she might be drinking. Drinking is not being responsible.

DeleteMy theory is Skyla is trying to get Naomi and Owen on her side and not on Gram's side. My evidence is Skyla is always bringing things for Naomi and Owen. One thing Skyla brought for Naomi and Owen was brand new nice clothes for Naomi so Naomi didn't have to wear Gram's hand-knitted clothes. Naomi really liked the new clothes. Another thing Skyla brought for Naomi and Owen was a bike. Also (my second evidence) Skyla was doing Naomi's hair in a brade for school and Skyla gave Naomi shiny glitterey lip gloss. Naomi wore everthing that Skyla gave her the next day to school. This evidence shows that Skyla isn't really a nice person because she is trying to get Naomi and Owen on her side and not on Gram's side Skyla is mostly trying to get Naomi on her side because most of the things Skyla brought was for Naomi. Skyla is not a nice person!

DeleteI think Skyla is using Owen for a reason to stay because Owen is very optimistic and wouldn't really know if Skyla is using him and also when she gave Owen the bike, she smiled and then went back to being in a bad mood which I'm referring to a "smirk".

Because when Skyla first came back she was very picky about there actions.My evidence is Skyla left them for 7 years and holds her arms out with an air kiss side to side. My second peace of evidence is the last chapter we read,Skyla was very moody to Naomi. When she did this she waited until Gram and Oewn left them.This show's that Skyla is the main problem.

DeleteMy theory is Skyla only likes Naomi I know this because in the text it says that Skyla bought Naomi new cloths and not Owen another piece of evidence is Skyla called Owen deformed and let him get bug bites all over him self. This shows that Skyla only likes Naomi.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you and also at first when Skyla bought clothes for Naomi Gram asked Skyla, "Where's the things for Owen?" And Skyla answered, "Um, ah, today was only shopping for the girls, ah, ah tomorrow i'll go shopping for Owen!" But we all know she was lying!
DeleteI think the big idea is that Skyla can't care for her kids and herself anymore. I know this because in the text the night before the parent teacher conference she was drinking and partying all night long instead of getting a good night sleep. And she didn't show up at the parent teacher conference and she used clive as a excuse. Also,Naomi over heard Skyla stopped going to rehab and the halfway house and she never told them.
ReplyDeleteRight, and another example is Skyla left Naomi and Owen when they were very young and kept them with Gram instead of their own father. And is she really cared for Naomi and Owen she wouldn't be an alcoholic because that's kind of dangerous to be an alcoholic when you have kids. Also she called her own son deformed.

DeleteMy theory about Becoming Naomi is that having Skyla around is a problem. Like for example, the first time Skyla came to Gram's trailer she started yelling, and when she left she BROKE the speed limit. Also, when she was supposed to go to Naomi's and Owen's parent teacher conferences, she didn't come because she went on some trip with her boyfriend Clive. I think Skyla is an irresponsible mom, and it would be better if Naomi and Owen didn't meet Skyla and just stayed with Gram.

DeleteMy theory is that Clive is just a cover.My evidence is that when she came home during the long weekend and said she was with Clive and also when she was gone for seven years she said she was with Clive also starting to date him in San Diego which is sort of fishy because if you really like someone that you have to visit every two days from somewhere not that close you would have married them already.

DeleteA pattern I notice in Becoming Naomi leon is that skyla keeps on giving Naomi and owen present’s so they will trust her. I know this because in the text it said that skyla had so far given her new clothes,a new backpack ,new lipstick,”... and so on.Also,she actually was able to get owen a new bike with all the expensive gear.

DeleteI think that the alcohol and not taking the medicine motivates Skyla to be moody. my evidence is that when Skyla came three days after the conference she had presents and was all cheerful and once gram and owen are away and it was only Naomi and Skyla, Skyla was black mailing Naomi and said "i invited clive over for thanksgiving and I want him to think we are a normal family." all craky.
ReplyDeleteMy theory is that Skyla has a problem with alcohol.Skyla smelled like sour milk and was passed out on the sofa in the trailer.my second piece of evidence is that Naomi overheard the principal and her teacher saying how Skyla went to a rehab hospital.This evidence show that Skyla has a problem with some kind chemical dependence.
ReplyDeleteThe main problem in Becoming Naomi Leon is how different things are that Skyla is back. My first evidence is Skyla never came to the conference and gram usually comes and comes on time. And Skyla is Owen and Naomi's mom and she should know better then to hang out with her boyfriend for three days and not tell them. My second evidence is Naomi keeps on getting new clothes and Skyla is being very nice and then Skyla starts yelling at Naomi! Gram would never do that to Naomi when she wasn't doing anything. Also I think Skyla should come to her kids conference when her kids NEED her!!! You should always be there for your kids!
ReplyDeleteThe main problem in Becoming Naomi Leon is Naomi is trying to get her Dad and her Mom back together. I know this because at the end of the chapter "Memory of Elephants" she put the family of clay elephants on the dresser, they represent her family. I also know this because in the same chapter Naomi was worrying about when her family would get back together. This shows that she wants her family back together.
ReplyDeleteMy theory is Gram is the type of GG who cares and protects her GGK. My first piece of evidence is Gram told Naomi & Owen to go into their room so she could protect her GGK in case Skyla said something that Gram didn't want the kids to here about like their father wanting them.My second piece of evidence is Gram didn't argue when Terry Lynn called the kids DEFORMED! This shows that Gram is a good GG and you can count on Gram when it comes to true feelings. :)
ReplyDeleteMy theory is Naomi loves her brother. She wants the best for him. The evidence that supports these ideas is: When Skyla came in a red mustang, she said "I have a something to tell you and a surprise." Which one do you want first." The grandmother got upset at Skyla because she did not show up at the meeting and did not pick them up. Skyla had disappeared and then showed up after 3 days. Naomi accepted the bike because of her brother. She said to Sklya, "thank you so much for getting him the bike." This evidence shows that Naomi loves her brother and wants him to be happy.
