Wonder: Character Study
Wonder is a story told from different points of view. Choose one character from the book, Wonder, by RJ Palacio. How does the character behave? What motivates their behavior? (Why do they act that way?) Why do you think the author included that character in the book? How does the character show the author's message? Explain your thinking with details from the story.

the character i chose is via. the way she behaves us she acts ok when she isnt. what motivates her to act that way is auggie because the mom he is taking the atention away. i think the auther put via in the book to show how sereus auggies condition is. via helps show the authers messeg becouse in the book she always takes care of auggie and askes him if hes ben bullied.
ReplyDeleteVia behaves like she is able to do all things by herself. Via is motivated to act this way because her parents are always busy helping August so she has to do things herself. The author included Via in the story to show what happens when a family has a child and there is a sibling. Via shows the author's purpose because she protects August even though he looks different she loves her brother.
ReplyDeleteVia is like she trained to do all stuff like cooking or do home because mom and dad have to take care of Auggie because deformed face and he could choke if he sleeping on his back. And that really make via cind the angry . the motive of act like this is that Auggie has to get a lot of mom dad and via has to do it by her self

What motivates her is that she acts this way because the parents are busy caring about Aggie but not Via .I think the author put via in the book to show how sereus Auggies condition Is. Also the author included Via in the story to show what happens when a family has a child and there is a sibling. The via helps show the authors message because in the book she always takes care of auggie and asks him if he is ben bullied.
ReplyDeleteThe character that I chose was Auggie. The reason why I chose him is because he is many different things but what he does that affects him is being hard on himself. In the the beginning of the book he said, "Whatever you think I look like, it's ten times worse," and another time when Julian bullied him by calling him darth sidious and he take it hard at first but then he cut off his braided ponytail for what Julian said. Auggie even asked his dad, "If I don't want to go to school, do I have to still," and he is usually used to this stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe charchter that I am going to do is the mom. This character is overly protective and worried about Auggie all the time. What I think that motivates this charater to act that way is that she is worried that Auggie might die. She is worried about that because the doctors said that he might not live. I think that they included her because they wanted to show someone that really cares about Auggie and that is overly protective. The character shows the author’s message by looking at the beauty within poeple and she cares about alot of people. The author’s message is finding beauty within people. An example would be when August was sleeping and the mom was waiting outside of the door doing nothing which shows that she was making sure nothing happened to him. Another was when she kept on asking how his day was and he wanted her to stop but she didn’t. Also, when they were in the room after they went to go see the school she asked if anyone was mean to him then August said yes and the mom’s face turned red like she really cared. It seemed like she was mad and sad and cared alot.
ReplyDeleteThe character that I chose is August. I chooses hume because he is many different traits but the most trait that makes him get mad is when him gets bully. For example Julian was bully him about how he loves Star Wars and how he has a face problem and a guy for Star Wars got burn he made aggie cut or the braid that he had in the back of his head from Star Wars.
ReplyDeleteFrom the book Wonder I choose Via Auggies older sister. The way Via behaves is she is very understanding. Like if she doesn't get a lot of attention she will be fine with it. But on the other hand she sometimes feels like she doesn't get any attention and she definetly wants more attention. And she acts that way because she understands that her brother has a deformed face but she feels like she doesn't have anyone and she has to do all her stuff herself
ReplyDeleteI think the author put Via In the story because she wants the reader to see how someone else feels and not just from Auggies perspective but also someone who is around
Auggie . The character shows the author's message Because she's trying to say that one of the authors messages is just because you have a son or daughter with a disability doesn't mean that you don't just have to focus on them.
I chose Summer. Summer is nice and acts silly. Summer sat next to August because she saw him sitting all alone and she felt sorry for him not because of his face but because he was all alone and everyone thought he was a freak. Summer represents the choice to not always follow your friends and to stand up for what you think is right. The authors message is don't judge someone by the way they look and people with disabilities are not any different on the inside than the average kid. Summer shows the author's message because she see's August for who he is on the inside not the outside.
ReplyDeleteVia acts protective over Auggie. The reason why Via is protective over Auggie is because every time someone looks at him, they give weird expressions. Via doesn’t like this, so she says, “what are you looking at”? I think the author put Via into the story because she always cheers Auggie up when he’s angry or sad. I think the author is using Via to tell other people not to judge people about how they look. Via never judged Auggie about how he looked. She always thought he was a normal human and not how other people saw him.
ReplyDeleteThe character i choose is August,August beats himself up by saying mean things about himself and ahat motivates August is Julian cause Julian was being rude to August and that made August upset and why August act s like that is because he has a deformed face and why the author add August is to show how it feels like to have a disability and how August is showing the author message is be mean to yourself because you have a disability and don't judge a book by its cover.
ReplyDeleteAuggie is used in the book as the character that shows how hard it is to be a kid with a distorted face that has no real friends besides Summer.
ReplyDeleteAuggie acts like he needs protection because Julian teases him because he has a distorted face. He always runs to his mom and cries to her but then defends the person he is telling on. But he stood up to Julian by himself and didn't need anybody's help. So Auggie also is in the book because he shows how to use our strength without hurting others and also why you should use empathy.
I chose Via as my character. I think in "Wonder" Via behaves maturely and with self-awareness. An example of this is that Via has to take care of herself because Auggie gets all the attention. Via's motivation to act that way is that she must take care of herself and is used to doing this because Auggie needs more attention than Via because Auggie has a disability. I think the author put Via in the story to show what happens when a child's family has challenges with their sibling's disability. I think this because, Via starts to worry about Auggie and remembers that Auggie could choke on his saliva if he flipped on to his back when she sees her mom looking into Auggie's room. I think the Author put Via in the story to help show the how every one is special, you just have to care about them. I think this because she felt guilty and ashamed when she saw Auggie like other people do and she worried about him when she remembered that he could choke on his saliva while he was asleep if he flipped on to his back.
ReplyDeleteI choose Via, August’s sister. Via has a lot of empathy for August. I know this because she doesn’t get upset when all the attention is given to August. She knows August has faced more challenges than she has. For example, August’s face is deformed and people make fun of him. He has also had to have many surgeries. The author included Via to show how a person who has a relative with a disability feels. The reason I know this is because when the author tells the story from Via’s point of view the reader gets to see what it would be like to have a brother with a disability. The author’s message that everyone is the same on the inside and what they look like on the outside does not matter. Via helps to deliver this message by standing up for August when people makes fun of the way he looks.
ReplyDeleteI choose the mom. She behaves the need to protect august like via. The thing that motivates the moms behaver is August needing help all the time. The reason she acts that way is the mom thinks August cant do stuff so she dose the stuff for him. I think the author included the mom in the book because she is what motivates August because the dad dosent help August only the mom helps August. The character shows the authors message is to see how other people with family members who have a disabilities perspectives in things.
ReplyDeleteI chose Julian because he has been bullying Auggie by saying rude things about his face such as : what’s the deal with your face,were you in a fire or something. He also said don’t you like Darth Sidious and Darth Sidious is not appealing to look at. Also Julian convinced Jack Will to talk behind Auggie’s back which really hurt Auggie’s feelings because Jack was the first kid to be friends with Auggie. Jillian convinced Auggie to cut off the Padawan braid which meant a lot to Via. Julian acted nice in front of Isabell but was so rude in front of Auggie. The reason the author put Julian in was to be a stump in Auggie’s way.
ReplyDeleteThe character I chose is summer. I chose Summer because she is nice and she cares about Auggie. She cares because sat next to Auggie at lunch when he was all alone and didn’t have any friends. Summer chose to leave her friends and sit with Auggie. What motivated her that everyone was bullying him and Summer felt bad for him.
ReplyDeleteThe authors message is you should not be ashamed of how you look and to treat people fairly. Also, not to judge people by how they look.
